    The Ford Maverick, first introduced in 2022, quickly became notable for being the most affordable hybrid and its unique unibody pickup design. Now, in the 2024 model year, we're focusing on the Maverick XLT, the mid-level trim, which notably shifts away from the hybrid as the standard option. Instead, the EcoBoost engine takes the lead, with the hybrid now as an option. This reflects a significant change in the Maverick lineup. Our channel has extensively reviewed various Maverick trims and configurations, including previous reviews of the same trim with different packages and the initial base hybrid model, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the Maverick's evolution.

    I really wanted a Maverick a year ago, but greedy Ford dealers had a $10k mark-up. That’s Honda Ridgeline money, which imo, is a far better pick-up than a Maverick. Great review!

      You have to special order the Maverick to get it at MSRP. I bought one last year with no dealer fees and about $1500 under msrp but a $50 document fee for the state of Alabama. I wasn't quite able to pay in cash but did manage to pay it off in two months with their "not so favorable" auto loans.
      I will say the Maverick is the perfect vehicle for people who don't much like trucks, or at least the mega trucks we're seeing on the road these days. The Maverick is shockingly small when you stand next to it, and it drives like a compact car (kinda noisy), and gets 30 mpg combined. AWD, that is. It's also weirdly sporty and powerful on curvy roads. There's no way a work truck like this should move so quick out of the turns or from lights.

    It took nearly 10 months for my 2024 Maverick XLT Hybrid to come in. The dealer in Benton, Ar. kept me informed and I knew it was going to take a while to come in. Yes, the hybrid engine which was std on the 2022 and 2023 models was now going to cost me $1500. more. I have now had my Maverick for 4 months and averaging 45mpg. I've added some accessories, i.e. 3 fold hard bed cover, tailgate soft open, mud flaps and hood protector. I've had so many compliments. Only complaint is the front seats need more thigh support for 6' + tall men. It is extremely quiet and acceleration is more than adequate.

    I been learning about Mavericks cause I want one one thing about how the console is designed is that there are modular units for it and Ford encourages people to 3d print whatever works for them too. I was leaning toward a Colorado but if I'm honest with myself, a unibody with better gas mileage makes more sense for my use-cases (commuting, camping, hauling a dirtbike or two). My local dealer has 68 of these on the lot according to their website, which leads me to believe I could actually go get one (maybe even below sticker-what a thought!)

    My sweet spot for the Maverick is the XLT 2.0 AWD FX-4 with the max tow package. But I think the Best Buy is the XL 2.0 AWD with the max tow package. Everyone knows about the Hybrid model, but a standard XL AWD with the base 2000 pound tow package option for $100 is a very god value. The Maverick is an entry level and entry light weight pickup which can do a surprising amount of yeomen duty. So, the Maverick is one of those not quite so hidden gems in the light duty truck market.

    Curious to see others throw in their two cents regarding my comments. I think a large portion does boil down to whether or not you want great MPG, or AWD vs. four-wheel-drive plus option that comes with the tremor package. Another tidbit that needs to be looked at as well, is what platform of vehicle Americans who own second vehicles have; I own a Toyota forerunner, so I already have the SUV option taken care of and most of the time what I find myself needing is a bed, which is what this truck offers. I can combine that with a hybrid engine, which gets me phenomenal gas mileage, but at the expense of only having front wheel drive in an environment where snowplows don’t make it out to me often. So that necessitates that I upgrade, but now we’re talking several thousand more dollars. If people are in a good spot where they can trade in, a vehicle towards this and make a 10 to 20% down payment I think that this could still be a really competitive option, the issue now goes to our economy and current interest rates with the banks. All in all, I think this is the perfect in between for people who may need a bed, and a utility platform that they can attach a flatbed trailer to while still getting competitive mileage. You also get a warranty if you purchase new, or certified preowned, and despite the recalls that have happened in the past a majority of those people who are affected, say that the truck itself has not been an issue and that the manufacturers have taken care of the concerns with zero charge to the consumer, so there really isn’t anything to be concerned with there, in my opinion .

    • @compuserveuser2779
      @compuserveuser2779 Před 4 měsíci +1

      That last part about hunting for the right gear is a problem with most CVTs. It's all the same save for SOME $$$ high end performance/luxury cars and a few kind of pricey but still common cars. On normal cars, it's a question of whether those CVTs will last or not. For example, the Maverick's direct competitor, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, suffers from early CVT failures. I haven't heard anything scary about the Maverick's CVT yet.
      But you're correct; it certainly hunts for gears sometimes, and that's the weird and scary part. It's only SOMETIMES. Is it starting to break? No. At least the "hunting" is not a sign of it. Fortunately (and sadly) "hunting" is just normal with mass produced CVTs.

    Interested...but read concerns about the Hybrid model and Ford not doing their homeword to improve their hybrid powertrains. As an example, Escape hybrids and their bad transmission design that can affect them past 100k miles...linked to transfer bearing going bad. Also documented are clutch dampener on the hybrids that have been going back under 10k miles (sounds like marbles?) and a continuation of the Escape hybrid models. Ford doesn't seem to have invested to address the issues in the HF35 transmission when designing the HF45 which is disappointing. Also troubling are the CV axles, the hybrid battery exhaust exchanger or the extensively recorded deep sleep/no starts. As a Ford fan, this is deeply saddening that Ford is not able to improve at the pace of competitors...no excuse for these issues to continue to exist in newer models. I wanted the Maverick hybrid, but may have to go for the non-hybrid model instead...

    • @krtwood
      @krtwood Před 4 měsíci

      When I last bought a truck in 2011, I thought I wanted a regular cab and 8' bed but had to settle for an extended cab and 6' bed. It turned out the 6' bed could do everything I wanted plus I had that protected and lockable storage space in the cab. Now this year I have to settle for the crew cab and 4.5' bed if I want the same size truck I had before. We'll see how living with it turns out but I am putting a rack on the bed and the roof for long stuff and taking out the rear seats to turn that into a bigger lockable cargo area. The whole thing about truck beds is stuff can stick out of them so they are practical no matter what size they are.

    Over scandalously priced and offers far too little for the cost. The 2.3 should have been an option for towing and full passenger and cargo filled assistance. The screen should have been the size of the whole bezel and standard. This nickle and diming is so erroneously minded and doesn't offer any real value just good marketing that it does, which is laughable at just a 3 yr 36k mile warranty. Really Ford not even 5yr 50k is reasonable enough? Goes to show you how they feel about this truck, after 3 years trade up or it's gonna start to have issues. Never buy a product a company can't stand behind with it's money and always read the fine print when they do ✌🏽🇺🇲

    • @compuserveuser2779
      @compuserveuser2779 Před 4 měsíci +2

      It's not over priced from the factory. It's the dealer mark-ups. So yeah, if you go to a certain dealer, you can say that it's overpriced. You have to find the right dealer. I went to one in a big city where it seems like they couldn't get rid of them. They had a bunch of models that were special ordered, but never purchased. I got mine at MSRP plus student and military discount. So $750 below MSRP. After driving it for a month, I feel like i got a bargain. A brand new 2024 car that looks great and drives great with modern features and some added options (so maybe *below* MSRP before the discounts/incentives?) that does 0-60 in 6 flat (per Car & Driver) for $23,700 felt like a bargain. Make it $24,450 without the discount and it would still feel like a bargain. Even without any "luxury" or faux luxury, it feels like it absolutely belongs in 2024 and probably fairly well beyond. If you're interested in this car, shop around. Maybe look at a Ford dealership at your nearest major city.
      I can't imagine easily getting my hands on a better brand-new car for under $24K. Now, if you can spare a few extra K's, I'm sure you can find something better. But my absolute max was $25K. I think I got excellent bang for the buck. At the very absolute least, I feel like it's been exceeding my expectations by a mile.
      edit: also, i believe that I got a 5yr 50k warranty standard. i think that's the standard warranty for the 2024. maybe, i'm wrong? i didn't really care about that part because my company takes care of maintenance and repairs lol, but i'm almost certain it's 5yr 50K. plus i wouldn't say they're not confident. not in the powertrain at least. it's a fairly established multiplatform powertrain. . edit 2: oh yeah, I'm talking about the 2.0T Ecoboost model.

      @@compuserveuser2779 that's awesome that you got a new Maverick for $24k that's insane for a dealership out here to charge. I'm in Massachusetts so everything is through the roof here. You can't even get a decent low mileage truck for that price without issues. I hope you have a great experience with your new truck and hope it's reliable for years to come. The video said 3/32 miles for the basic warranty, I'm sure though that's bumper to bumper while the powertrain has 5/50 miles. I have 2 Lincoln's, MKZ and MKC 2.0 turbo's and they are decent powerful motors for those light vehicles. I was just concerned with a truck if loaded with people, gear and towing a boat, etc, how would it do? Best of luck again with everything 🍻
