    I got myself checked out and have been followed for like 6-7 years now by cardiologists and they've always given me a clean bill of health but since I'm always so focused on my heart and super anxious sometimes it makes this shit happen and it become a vicious cycle...so scary but at least I know it's not my heart. Glad to see I'm not alone with this "condition" let's call it, stay strong kind internet strangers ❤️

    It’s crazy to me that most people can’t feel them. They don’t happen often but when they do I always get a spike of adrenaline with it and that sometimes sets off my anxiety.
    It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve had an anxiety attack, and a month since I cut out caffeine. I don’t drink as it is due to family history.
    It really is all about your state of mind. I broke down and had a good cry and that really helped me. Not afraid to admit it either as a 32 year old man.
    I read that if you do get them it actually means your heart is healthy, and is strong enough to push that amount of blood at once, as a sick heart cannot do it.

    Hi guys, thanks for this video it really helped me with extra confidence that the PVC's are actually not a thing to worry about! Let me tell you what my experience is: I had PVC's back in 2016.... i went through the mill cardiology tests, stress test, holter, everything.... and when i had the last appointment with the cardiodoc he said it's all good... i walked out of the hospital... feeling happy... and didnt get PVC's for five years straight... then covid came... apperantly when your overweighted you might get more chance to get severe covid symptoms... trombose and such. So what happend?? I started feeling them again... frequent to a point that four months ago the were at some night going like every 3 beats one skip... i called 911 (112) and the ambulance came... they put me on a ECG device and while i was worrying they said... oh yeah... no worries these are PVC's... we can't do anything about it.... so i asked... would you say the same if i was a close family member of yours or would you have me examined more? Nope... we can't do anything about this... it's harmfull. So after that i felt a bit reassured, plus i felt like i couldnt even call 911 for my issue... now 4-9-2022 i just went on a holiday with my son (17 years old ) to paris, for the first time after covid, and as soon as i stepped in the car to drive to paris.... for the first time in 2 years i didn't have PVC's during my whole holiday.... and he just wanted to walk not take metro etc.... I thought to myself.... i want me and my son to have a nice visit... ill do the walking even though i imagined to have PVC's while doing so... we walked 40 Km in 2 days... i ate all i wanted (which usually flares up my PVC's) drink some whine and beers while stopping for a rest which also usually flared up my PVC's, and still i didn't get one single PVC... we had a blast there and i was so happy even though my legs hurt from all that walking... two days after being back home i started feeling them again... until this very moment im writing this. But now.... seeing this vid... it kinda make sense... during that trip i wasn't alone in my house... had focus on Paris and enjoying with my son... back home sitting behind my computer... i was again focussing on my body/heart.... so the moral of this and the conclusion of me writing this... is 1. I cant even call 911 (112 in my country) to help me with the PVC's because they cant help me. 2. It's me focussing to much on the PVC's so they become more frequent... 3. It's not dangerous, im good 4. When i wake up in the morning they are not there... as soon as my mind is starting up so are the PVC's.... 5. I am telling myself that after food consumption they get worse... but why weren't they there in paris when eating with my son?? 6. When im writing this im just finishing my 6th beer of the night (it's weekend... ) but from tomorrow on.. ill stop drinking alcohol for a month. And stop worrying about the PVC's i realize it's more my mind that's flaring them up than anything else.. i will post an update in a month to tell you guys how it's going for me. Reply on this if you want, maybe we can boost eachother! Kind regards Michel

      For me the main triggers are caffeine, alcohol and stress. I have been mainly caffeine free for 16 years but occasionally I eat chocolate (which contains caffeine). If I dont get any ectopics I tend to eat more. But within a couple of weeks the ectopics return so I stop again. It seems to build up. So my advice is to limit caffeine and alcohol. If anxiety is the trigger then the reduction of safety behaviours will help. Remember, lots of people get ectopics and don't notice them. Its focusing on them that makes them worse. Currently I drink very little alcohol, tea or coffee, ,eat very little chocolate and have addressed my stress issues. I have had hardly noticed an ectopic in months

      Glad you found my video useful. Also stay away from caffeine and alcohol. My ectopics are not anxiety related but caffeine is a big trigger for me and if I drink too much alcohol it can set them off. Mine have died down to almost nothing now. I rarely feel them. I did have a period of work stress that triggered them off again last year but when I dealt with that they stopped again.

    I seem to have these for over 5 years now. My last big meltdown and ER visit in early 2019 was caused by that extra beat and pause. I had a Holter for 48 hours and the result was less than >1% PAC/PVC. Ironically when I had the Holter I felt none! I had an Echo/Stress test in June 2021 and that came back as excellent short to mid term result. I did get a bit taken aback when it just said “short to medium” and was puzzled why the cardiologist didn’t put in long term? I guess I’m 52 and nobody can predict the future. That’s what anxiety does, the thinking is always “what if?” You get an excellent result but you always want that extra reassurance. Sometimes I don’t feel anything, and while I can’t self diagnose and say I have ectopics, the feeling can’t be disheartening and depressing. It’s hard to get motivated after you feel them. I find it’s worse after eating too.
    I lead a healthy lifestyle, moderate exercise daily, good diet and avoid toxic people and situations when I can. It’s just I can’t stop thinking 24/7 that I’ve a heart problem even though I’ve been checked out numerous times by over 30 doctors and cardiologists in the last 8 years. It’s the fear that drives them, the catastrophic thinking, OCD, negative thoughts and safety behaviours and even though I hardly ever get panic attacks now over it, it’s always in the back of my mind. Once you become too self aware it escalates out of control. By the way, I haven’t had a C19 shot either. I’ve done a lot of research and read papers from reputable doctors and cardiologist of reports of people noticing palpitations after it.

      Though ectopics heart beats are common in the general population they must be a nightmare if you suffer anxiety. Mine started around the time I completed my training in counselling and CBT. Having a thump in the chest and dizziness was pretty scary. Fortunately the ECG showed they were harmless and as my training has made me quite resilient to anxiety I have not worried about them since but I can understand what a trigger they must be for someone suffering from anxiety. And while its possible to give up triggers like caffeine and alcohol, quitting anxiety fuelling behaviours is a much harder task. However the fact that they are not giving you panic attacks anymore sounds like you are making progress so keep working on reducing those safety behaviours and it will get easier.

      It's a hard symptom to work through - these ectopics. but i need to live a life. Sometimes when i bend or crouch - it feels my stomach pushes up and causes something, maybe it sits against a nerve or something. i know when i get stressed my stomach feels like it swells (am im slim). Right there with you. Several heart palpitations. Zio patch for 14 days, EKGs, echocardiogram, 48hr halter monitor. Stress test, etc. I'm 40 now and they all say my heart is fine. It's been a year now, and only last Friday I was diagnosed with "severe anxiety". I've been on Clonazepam, magnesium, and other supplements for a year now. They just prescribed me cymbalta, now up to 60mg a day as of today. The past year has been a living hell. I've lost 2 good jobs, my girlfriend, etc all because of this. All I want to do is be home in bed on my heating pad. Sleeping.

    This is the very best video on CZcams to explain the symptoms of ectopic beats. Every symptom mentioned is a symptom I feel. I thought many times that I was going to die or have a heart attack. Many visits to the emergency room and heart doctors and they always say everything is fine. Had a number of holter monitors that caught nothing until I had the 2 week one. That one caught 346 ectopics and the doctor explained them to me. Now, even though the feeling is super ugly, I don't feel too scared about my ectopics. Just gotta learn to live life with them

    "You may also increase the ectopics." 🤯🤯 I have done that exact thing. My health anxiety has tended to hop from symptom to symptom, whenever one stops "working" on me (hmm perhaps a good video topic you could create? Symptom Hopping? 🤔)
    During the time period when I was heart-focused and often bedridden, I could literally sit there and create one ectopic beat after the next. Essentially, I was spending most of the day waiting to feel the next one. That, of course, led to more of them. Particularly because, in order to be SURE I felt them, I had to remain as still as possible. Pure hell. Had to be sure I didn't MISS the missed beat!!😫🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

One thing that made them go away for some odd reason was being out and about with friends and family, I believe because I was in the moment and forgot all about them and they miraculously went away after distracting my mind. I believe my ectopics are caused by migraine and it's impact on the autonomic nervous system - much the same as anxiety. Although medical professionals won't acknowledge this because it's not proven. But they cause me alot of anxiety. Last night my migraine was particularly bad and i would wake up, have a few ectopics every few normal beats then it'd settle, i'd go back to sleep, wake up again and have the palpitations again. It's really horrible when they happen every few seconds. I can't make myself believe they are harmless because of how horrible they feel. And they don't all feel the same and some sensations are scarier than others. I keep trying to convince myself they are harmless but can't make myself believe it. I've never had them recorded despite having 3 ecgs, one of which was 24hrs, all of which were normal. but i'm positive they are ectopics because of how they feel - isolated, not a continuous rhythm. They're horrible though. I keep trying to tell myself that my ecgs were normal so my heart is fine, no other symptoms with the ectopics, and no history of heart disease or problems. But it's hard to believe they won't lead to a different, dangerous arrhythmia.

I have a shoot tomorrow, and I woke up at 3:30 a.m. feeling a little bit of a fast heartbeat and skip beats, which made me nervous enough to find this video again. The thing that works for me usually is doing the work by Byron Katie. And just having an understanding that hearts do not work like pendulums... Or like a ticking clock. For me, I think the reason I judge my heart beat so much is because I think that it should be something that it clearly is not. I think it should be like the tick of a clock... Always constant. But that is definitely not how hearts work.

    Mine started about one month ago. I've already been checked by a cardiologist and they were visible in the ECG. However I was diagnosted with a healthy heart. 'They are harmless' my cardiologist said. A blood test went clear as well. I am a sporty guy and I've cut out caffeine and alcohol but absolutely had no impact on my ectopic heart beats. Even supplementing magnesium and potassium (like my doc told me to try) had absolutely no impact.
    However I've been able to stop panicking about them over the last weeks. This seems to reduce the amount of them. Sometimes I have 5 to 10 of them which gives me the hope to get rid of them completely one day. I've heard of some people dealing with them for weeks or months and then their ectopic beats disappeared without any reason. This keeps me hoping to get rid of them one day. However I don't understand why they suddently appeared. They feel so bad, there is no chance I was overlooking them the last years.

      Ectopics are a bit of a mystery. Mine appeared at 37. (Im 53 now). If I stay away from caffeine and limit alcohol they usually die down but stress can trigger them also which is not always so easy to control (even for someone trained in psychotherapy). But anxiety can also cause them and the ectopics themselves can cause anxiety so it becomes a vicious circle. In a few weeks Im planning on making a video about how to manage ectopic related anxiety as its a very common problem.

      @@TheAnxietyAttic I think anxiety is the cause of mine. I've been dealing with anxiety for 4 years now. Last year I've had five positional vertigos. This got me months of panic attacks and anxiety. After a long time waiting to see my neurologist I finally got some answers. He told me, it is normal that the brain falls into panic mode after two or three of positional vertigos. However the vertigo attacks went away. The anxiety stayed and I developed a dizzyness (surely caused by the anxiety).
      When my ectopics appeared first time, my dizzyness or let's say vertigo was completely gone.
      So I think my brain or body is doing some kind of symptom roulette :D

      Yes ectopics are often very short and the problem is ectopics don't happen most of the time for most people so if you are put on an EKG for 1 minute the chances of spotting them are almost zero. It often takes a 24 hour or even 2 week monitor to catch them. I had to wait 9 months for my 2 week monitor but by that time the ectopics had stopped. (due to giving up caffeine and alcohol). Eventually 14 years after they started they caught them on a 2 week monitor. The good news is of course that even if you are getting them, they are usually harmless and need no treatment. (especially if an x-ray or ultrasound shows no structural problem)

      In my experierience with ectopic heart beats you have to work out what your triggers are. For me it was caffeine but alcohol and nicotine are also known triggers. Anxiety can also be a trigger. If you treat the anxiety you may find you get less ectopics. There does seem to be a link between gastritis and ectopics for some people. The theory is that the oesphagus is so close to the heart that if it is inflamed, it can trigger ectopics. Sanjay Gupta has a good video on this subject.

      If you are feeling a fast but regular pounding feeling in your chest and you suffer from anxiety then anxiety is the most likely cause not ectopics. However you can get a fast heart rate from anxiety that includes skipped beats, flutters and irregular thuds. Those skipped beat, flutters and thuds are ectopics, but it is not the ectopics as such that are causing the fast heart rate, it is the anxiety. I hope that makes sense.

      Hi Rachel. Sorry to hear ectopics are giving you trouble at night. My understanding of ectopics is that there are 5 main triggers. Cigarettes, caffeine, alcohol, stress and anxiety. Cut out the first 3 if you haven't already. Stress and anxiety are not so easy. I don't have any videos on stress yet but I have made 150 or so on anxiety which will show you how to manage and reduce it. But the basic principle is try to manage the anxiety not the symptom. The more you focus on the symptom the more anxious you will become and the worse the symptom gets. For some people ectopics become something we just have to live with. I still get them occasionally but they are much milder since I reduced or eliminated the triggers. Sorry I can't offer you anything better. There is no perfect cure for ectopics. If they are very severe they will sometimes perform a laser ablation but it does not always work and has risks. My training is on the psychological side not medical. Check out Sanjay Gupta of York Cardiology. He has made some great videos on ectopics. I learnt a lot from him and my own cardiologist.

    What's your opinion? Do you think having these "ectopics" especially while working out or running or walking fast (any physical activity leading to increased pulse rate) is harmful?

      Thats a decision I can't make for you as Im not a doctor and not medically trained and dont know your circumstances. But I will tell you what I know from my own experience. Most ectopics are harmless. If the ECG is only one minute long it is unlikely to detect them unless you are having a lot. A 3 day or week long monitor is more likely to detect them. But the gold test is an echocardiogram. This shows that there are no structural problems with the heart. Your doctor has probably looked at your risk factors (age, family history, smoker /non smoker etc) and decided that an echo cardiogram is not necessary. Ectopics are after all very common and usually benign in young healthy people. Discuss your concerns with your doctor.

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 2 lety

      Its always best to have any changes in heart rhythm checked by a doctor who can confirm if they are just ectopic beats via an ECG. Ectopic heart beats are very common and usually harmless. You don't have to be stressed or anxious for them to happen. Reducing and eliminating caffeine and alcohol can also reduce them. (It made a huge difference for me). If the heart is beating strong (e.g. when anxious) or irregular it can often be felt in the neck because there is a major artery there.

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 3 lety +1

      The cardiologist told me that they tend to get better with age. Mine started at 37. I was able to reduce them to almost nothing by giving up caffeine and alcohol, though they returned recently (aged 52) during a period of high stress. They have calmed down again now but I have found healthy eating and good sleep habits help. You may find if you get the anxiety treated they could lessen.

      I am 32, but I have noticed I consistently get more of them around my period. Turns out hormonal fluctuations can cause ectopic beats / palpitations! At your age, I'd imagine quite a lot of hormonal changes, so this could be part of it

    Can we still consume cannabis even if it's "Benign" ectopic heartbeats?

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 2 lety +2

      Im not a doctor but I would think that cannabis is not a good idea. The cardiologist described ectopics to me as the heart being irritable. The most common irritants for the heart are alcohol, caffeine, stress and smoking. So I guess that cannabis would come under smoking. It is also bad for anxiety in the long term.

    Sooo I get PACs often but a few months ago I noticed a big uptick in them. I suffer from severe anxiety although I’ve been a lot better since losing a lot of weight. I went through a full cardio check up. Holter monitor for 2 weeks, Echo Cardiogram and blood work. It came back as less than 1% PACs and no structural abnormalities with my heart. Now a couple months later I feel them multiple times within minutes throughout the entire day. Wish me luck :/

      Hi Sam. After 14 years I have finally had a monitor and mine are also PACs and 1%. I have increased my exercise recently and been a bit more careful with my diet and they have died down again. Fortunately due to my training I don't suffer from anxiety but work stress can aggravate them. If anxiety is your main trigger check out some of the other videos on my channel which may help.

      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 2 lety +4

      The long pause caused by the ectopic beat means the heart fills up with blood more than usual. (so is stretched) then it contracts again quickly pushing out a lot more blood than usual which causes pain in some people. Cardiologist Sanjay Gupta describes it like a rubber band being stretched and then released.

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 3 lety +3

      They are very common but most people don't notice them. If you put a holter monitor on a random population for a day the monitor will detect ectopics in more people than not. In fact Cardiologist Sanjay Gupta who I mention in the video, actually had one patient whose monitor showed that he was getting 20000 ectopic beats but had never noticed them. Ectopics can vary in magnitude and some people are more tuned in to them an others.

      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 3 lety +3

      @@talaltallal3775 I will explain magnitude first. Ectopics are usually a small extra beat, followed by a pause, then a big beat. Depending on how hard/strong that big beat is, people may or may not notice it. Now I will explain 'tuned in'. People with anxiety are very sensitive to any changes in their body. People with anxiety are much more likely to notice ectopic beats than people without anxiety.
