    So this spring I changed the oil and when I went to start it back up a little red light on the front of the motor went on. I've called the local mercury dealer here a few times and they never called me back.
    Do you know why that happened? It wouldn't start after it happened.

    If this is information, why do you not tell the size of the socket you use to remove drain plug. This is not in my manual, metric or standard?? Can,t find anywhere. I guess I'll have to try all my sockets till I find the right one.

  • @kevinkrzeminski6353

    Couldn't you just replace lower nut and gravity fill the gear oil or pump it in the "vent" plug and avoid the speciality tool cost? also, new to boating but do people usually stick to OE oils because Motul, Amsoil & Redline make some nice class IV & V oils. Thx

    • @BCBackwaters
      @BCBackwaters  Před 3 lety +2

      For doing the gear oil if you gravity fill from the top the oil is thick and can sometimes get blocked and when you think it’s full it’s not but by doing it from the bottom it pushes air out of the top hole once it’s full so you know for sure that the lower unit is full.

  • @TM7ooSilva

    Hey how's it going, I have the same engine. Do you have any issues with it making oil? Like once I do my oil change, I make sure it's just below full or right on full. I'll run it for a few hours and I'll check the oil and it will be past full.
    I know it does say on the manual if you idle a lot it does happens and you have to do more frequent oil changes, I find that weird.

    • @BCBackwaters
      @BCBackwaters  Před 3 lety +1

      I never had this issue before does the oil look the same color as when you put it in? Could water be getting into it? That’s a tough one not sure what would even cause this other then something getting into it if anything the oil may go down slightly as it makes it’s way into parts of the engine. Sorry I am not much help on this one.

      @@BCBackwaters thanks for the reply, yes oil looks fine, I even spoke to Mercury
      they said its normal as its says in the manual. Its say if you idle a lot or don't full throttle much, it happens.

    How often do you change oil, filter, & gear oil, every year or every 2 years

    • @BCBackwaters
      @BCBackwaters  Před 4 lety

      Charles Williams I change it yearly even if the motors sees little use it is still good to replace yearly and good practice

    • @BTCummins-rh6vw
      @BTCummins-rh6vw Před 3 lety

      Mercury recommends every 100 hours or once a year/whichever comes first. I change mine every 50 hours as I feel that you can’t change your oil to often and it isn’t harming it at all to give it clean oil sooner than later. In running mine with a jet so its in the higher rpm’s to stay on plane , with that increased wear it never hurts to change it more often.

    Do you have to put some oil in the oil filter before putting back on ..?

    • @BCBackwaters
      @BCBackwaters  Před 2 lety +1

      Due to the location I did not as would probably lose most of the oil into the engine area if you did try. Best thing to do is just put oil on the seal and install it. Fill your engine with oil and run it for a minute then check your dip stick to make sure it’s the right level and your good to go!

    • @BT-rz1uw
      @BT-rz1uw Před 4 lety +1

      probably just some clean oil. i usually do the same, pour some clean oil through there just to flush any remaining sediment out of the bottom of the oil pan.

      It should say it right where the fill cap is. 10-30 or 20-50 depending on your operating temperatures.

      I am guessing the shop has a minimum fee which is why it costs so much! As you can see it’s easy to do and doesn’t take much time at all.
