About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

I’ve always thought the cottage windows looked off somehow. They really need to be white. Go with your gut, Terry.
I think white for the cottage windows. I'm not sure if you thought about it yet but as you will be receiving guests in the future ( unless guests would be going to the cottage regularly) maybe a small fence around Tracey's cottage with sinage that marks it as private so no one wanders into a private space? That would be my preference for myself.
Thanks Kathryn 🥰
PLEASE cut the clickbait it doesnt do you any favours,. Others may do this but your content is quality enough without it.
I agree there’s nothing about opening a secret door I stopped watching last time only recently started watching again just STOP IT GUYS PLEASE
See…… no replies from these guys I’d expect something maybe an apology or say why the title and edit isn’t the same is there an explanation please ????
I agree, just say what's in it.
What click bait ?
Painting the cottage windows and dormers white would create more cohesion with the Château. I think it's a grest idea.👍
I think that the cottage windows would look better white on the outside, they could be left wood stain on the inside if that is what Tracy prefers. When all the lamps are painted white with gold trim it will look lovely
I think the cottage windows and door would look lovely in white!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Agreed! White
Perhaps another strong large planter such as a smaller wagon could be painted a colour to draw the eye - the wood looks lovely but I personally would go for the white - you could consider matching up your mom's entrance door plus your two in a French Blue?
I agree but the problem is that once you start painting wood then you are committed to continuing to rub down and repaint every few years. Wood varnish /stain/oil is quicker to re do.
Don’t worry Terry !! It’s always enjoyable to watch you working away !
Hello from snowy Vermont USA where we got 25 inches of snow this weekend.
so it was warming to see you outside working just in a hoodie!
The new lamps will add so much to the warmth of the look of the chateau at night as you all walk around and also from down by the road.
As far as the cottage windows, yes, paint them white to better tie in with the rest of what you are doing as right now it looks like they are just waiting to be done.
Congrats on jobs well done!
Rest well tonight and this week all.
Restoration of the stairs to the cellar would be another "just job" for the talented Lalacelle team. Looking forward to seeing how "bad" the "before" situation will be.
Absolutely 🥰🥰 thanks John 🥰
Please tell me you will not let us hang in the air about that basement stairway with just a ½ second on video. Please show more on the stairway. Please, please.
@@pieteropperman4031 yes, I agree. If we don't see a stairway to the basement very soon, or perhaps some restoration of an outbuilding, it will start to feel like a game is being played. It's no fun watching trees being chopped down or paint drying
Personally, I haven't seen ONE video that hasn't kept me "coming back" to see the next... Whether watching trees being chopped or paint drying. I guess we are all different. 😉
@@pieteropperman4031 we will be 😌😌
Another winning video. The thought process that all of you put into the restoration of this entire property is so impressive.
Leave all the outside lighting in Black that's how it was in the past and it will look very elegant
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Terry, you are amazing. Having been gifted people all around you who love you and support you is such a blessing when pursuing your dream. Ash, your mom, your family…and thousands of supporters all over our world love what you are all doing! Keep up the brilliant work!
Wow, thank you 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I bet Patrick is disappointed that the weather hasn't let you work outside. He so enjoys helping with the digging.
Haha. He loves it 🥰🥰
I like the wood on the cottage, but to match the chateau white windows, doors and trim would be better, I think❤️
Thanks Jette 🥰
I think all windows look beautiful painted white ❤ and the lights are gorgeous, will light up beautifully❤
I am so amazed at how much work has been done. I know there are many more projects and they take time. But, what you and your fantastic helpers have done, is amazing.
Thank you so much! ☺️
Tracy needs to give Ash a “how to cope with scary spiders in the yucky basement stairway” tutorial. 🤣🤪
Tracey would have to give me a lesson on “how to cope with scary spiders in the basement.” I don’t like spiders either. Black Widows and brown recluse spiders can be very dangerous.
Lanterns are gorgeous another addition to the glorious Chateau. Yes, I agree I think the cottage windows painted white would definitely be in keeping ❤
I haven't watched this one yet - it'll be a while! I just found your vlog and I'm way behind but enjoying them so much. Such a nice and hard-working family. I'm amazed at how skilled you are and what good attitudes you all have. Tracy keeps saying she's never done certain things before and yet she always does such a great job. Looking forward to catching up and seeing all the progress you have made!
Thank you for joining our journey 😊😊
For what it’s worth, I agree with the decision making you’ve proposed in this vlog. Outside lanterns as assigned for the cottage and chateau. I personally love the natural color on the cottage but agree that it should match the chateau by painting the wood white. All of the out buildings owned by the landholders would have matched, to designate ownership. ❤🏰
White windows are a must. It will look beautifull
I can't wait until you start working on the downstairs and kitchen in the Château.
You and me both! 🥰
I can't wait to see some internal stairs going down to the basement!
Seeing you asked...
I prefer metal gates, rails, lamp posts etc to be dark grey/black - not white.
The exterior timbers in white give the chateau country cottage look, if that's what you're after - but I think they would look better in the dark grey, which would be more elegant - and match that colour in the stone walls of the chateau
It's not the subject/topics that are boring - people watch to see restoration - but seeing bits of work with no context, before and after, or known destination, or just a talking face for extended periods ... is a bit frustrating!
A resounding YES~!!! Yes, paint the cottage windows white. They look out of place to the chateau as they currently stand. Everything white!
Perhaps I should send my wife over to your Chateau. She was livid when you put the dirty lamps on that beautiful carpet, and over the top when you put the drill bits on the lovely velvet covered settee! And the lamps on the cottage? Forest green.
Cheers!
I like the cottage windows as is. Everything does not have to be matchy matchy. It just has to look right.
Yes, I think painting the doors and windows on the cottage would be best so it matches the chateau.
Not boring, Terry! I love watching any progress to the property. Very much wish I could travel there and help you outside. Thanks for including us in your journey!
I can see why you would like the cottage to have white dormers, it would match, however the color really should be your mom's choice. 😊
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
For the outside optics I would paint the cottage Windows white but for the inside Tracy could leave it as they are…Great Job like always…❤
Thanks obi 🥰🥰
I think painting the cottage, windows and door white look very beautiful🥰
Leave the cottage windows wood and make the lights black or gun metal grey as a contrast.
That was a very tedious job done brilliantly! Bravo! Boring? NEVER! It amazes me the work you do that would scare the whiskers off a kitten, and then think we may be bored. I wouldn't even climb up on the scaffolding .... unless I was being chased by wolves! So, kudos! Well done!
Definitely white for cottage.
Another just job done!! I think the cottage windows would look lovely painted white, thereby emulating the look of the chateau windows.
Think white is the best choice .
The smaller lamps are built to be on a pole away from a wall if that makes a difference as they emit light in all directions. The others are built to be against a wall and throw light forward and to the sides.
I have never saw Coach lambs in my entire life any color but black. I think the white will look really strange…😮
Серебряная кнопка 🔳!!!!!!🎉
By the time your gardens are done, it will feel more like an estate and probably the cottage detailing would look better in white to match the chateau.
Those lamps are going to look great to help your visitors go in the right direction-the chateau!
Thanks Mary 🥰
I'm surprised Paula didn't have a drop cloth over those gorgeous floors painting the windows 😮. I would love more of an explanation or a tour of the creepy stairs, where they went to, etc.
I'm thinking the cottage windows white would be lovely and let it stand out a bit. I love both lanterns and think you chose the right pair for each residence. They will look gorgeous when painted and up. I never find anything you do boring!!!❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Terrific drill bits!
Cottage windows ... yes, white.
So amazing! I think white would be a perfect choice!
MAMAN AND SON IS YERY GOOD PEOPLE!UNDERSTAND TOGETHER ,WITH LOVE RESTOVREISCHON CHATEAU 😅❤❤😊💒
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
@@chateaudelalacelle PLEASE!!!🌏🌐💫💓🌺🤗
I love the lamps you and your Mum chose for outside the Château, I think the frames of the cottage would look brighter and like you say Terry more in keeping with the Château window frames, another just job well done 😊❤
Thanks Cheryl 🥰🥰
It looks like a narwhal horn, but it’s a drill bit.😁❤ Terry you might think it’s not exciting, it will definitely make the outside entrance nicely on both sides of the tower. It will look great in the long run. Thank you. The cottage should be in white in my opinion.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I say cottage windows and doors should be white! They will look beautiful!!
I think painting the cottage window frames white would look beautiful 🥰
It’s great that you are getting some off your smaller Jobs done as well as the big ones, so satisfying for you
I think you should swap the lamps, to be honest... Just because the smaller ones are actually replicas of old horse carriage lights, so they would fit on a carriage house - or cottage. They seem way to small for the Chateau. Whereas the larger ones are a better fit, sizewise. And they do look a bit more posh, if you ask me 😊
Yes, paint the windows and doors white on the cottage. I think it will brighten them up and help to match more closely those of the Chateau.
Sometimes it is worth letting a job wait so that the brain has time to think things through. Obviously works for you. Great work everybody, Best wishes
Another task sorted and I'm itching to see them mounted and lit! I do think that the cottage windows and doors should be white to match the chateau........I've always though it looked a bit grim and sad and painting them white would cheer things up a bit. ♥
lol you are the master of understatement Terry:)) 'Just' a wee job, daunting bud to anyone else. Chateau is coming to life with all your love and attention to the smallest detail.
Am I watching the wrong video? I thought it was about the cellar stairs ❤
I'm puzzled too - another example of an eye catching title that really doesn't mean much.
@@ericalbanySome of the comments were about the stairs.🤷♂️❤
but "Choosing Lanterns" doesn't sound as arresting as "Sealed Door". @@margielynch7196
I think the cottage trim should match the white trim on the chateau. Things are moving right along!
I think the cottage windows should be white to match the chateau!! Scary stairs!!
Thank you 🥰
All of you are such a hard working team. You all are to be admired.
Tracy is a one man band with all the different jobs she tackles. I can how it’s been passed down to Terry.
It is a real luxury to see you work with those wonderful hands!!!
Keep the cottage windows wood! 💙
I'm with the Team White for cottage windows. Agree the lanterns will be lighter. And agree with the person who suggested, anticipating chagteau guests, a little privacy fence or signage for the cottage indicating it's a private residence is a great idea. Enjoy your transforming work on this chateau. You guys are wonderfully gifted and have incredible vision to take these rooms from chaos to beauty!
I definitely think painting them white would look lovely and everything would be in uniform ❤
Truely think white is the best choice. Its best to having it to match the chateau. The lighting will really add warmth to greeting those who drive up to visit. Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴
For the best curb appeal, consistent paint colors are the single best way to tie everything together, so yes, paint the windows white.
Now that's a drill bit Terry! You truly are a master of adventure along with Tracy. Paula sure is cracking on with the windows painting them so well, As for the cottage I rather like the wood as it is as the cottage is a building by itself and not part of the chateau. It's your call though.
I love both sets of lanterns and agree that the more simple lanterns would be lovely on the cottage, painted white and the window trim as well. The larger lanterns will look perfect on the chateau. ❤
That carreaux de ciment is stunning! Don’t ever change it! 🙏🏼
Good job! Greetings from Calgary. We have roughly 22cm of snow.
Black lamps would look so much better, so would black railings. :)
I like the lanterns and painted white with gold trim is a wonderful idea. C’est un Bon idea!
Thanks Sass 🥰🥰
It wouldn't hurt if the lights on the chateau were even larger but that's a easy change if and when you find them later on. The ones for the cottage are perfect. I agree on painting the cottage windows white to make everything cohesive. I think the wood will stand out even more when the exteriors and landscaping are finished.
Thanks Amy 🥰🥰🥰
Dear Lalacellers, I don't think the cottage doors and windows should be white. Here's why. The two buildings are similar in style, yet quite different. If the cottage woodwork is white it will feel as if the cottage has been separated, cut off, from the main chateau. But as a cottage it is a quite charming building with its own identity. I would suggest painting the wood a very pale blue. It's look would be like the wall lanterns you chose for the cottage, less formal but charming, The buildings will relate to each other but hold their own identity. See what you think. Maybe a test on the door?
Leave the cottage windows as is and paint the exterior walls of the cottage pure white. That will make the difference between peivate residence and guest areas.
Yes White for the cottage will look lovely, and those lamps will be perfect, more Tracy's stile xxx
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Well that is another Job Jobed by Great team of Lalacelle> As far as the cottage trims I think they should match the trims on the Chateau. The lamps will be gorgeous white with gold trim.
Thanks Lawrence 🥰
Yes... Tracy's choice for the exterior lanterns is perfect!!!!
You are my favourite chateau channel. As much as I love the wood windows on the cottage, I think it would be better to paint them white to have a more cohesive look, matching the chateau.
I’m absolutely team white!! The lanterns are fabulous.
Thanks Jane 🥰🥰
Another just job out of the way, well done getting wiring through those thick walls👏🏻😍
I think the cottage window painting theme white would compliment the Chateau
Everything you do is exciting ,so glad your mum got her light
You’re just creating another job. Keep the windows brown until every other job at the chateau is done, then reevaluate!
You are all so clever, dedicated and incredibly hard working. Your results are stunning. Love keeping track with you. 😘
Thank you so much! 🥰
All white! Keeping it uniform will tie it all together.😊. Love watching you guys!
Yes! Thank you! ☺️
Well done you are doing agreat job . Gone with you on your choices so far . I think it would be nice to have a little bit of a change in colour of the great outdoor lantern's instead of white as everything else is white. Leaving them black would work ,just saying also very practical.
Thanks to you I now recognize- Just jobs.
Haha. Thanks Julie 🥰
The lights will look good but I had hoped you'd use tiny lights inside the glass awning to create a glow. but no single source. This "carriage" style fixture throws little light. New topic - my father and I battled over white vs black ironwork. I painted everything iron black as part of house painting while he was on vacation. I returned from a college semester to find he had repainted everything iron white. Hope you don't tire of the white - it shows dirt and neglect more BUT it will probably appeal to women who are planning weddings. The neighbors preferred my black.
Thanks John 🥰
Gloss black windows and coach lights on the cottage would look better than white otherwise keep them natural wood so that it looks stand alone, separate from the chateau.
Chateau-esk! 🙌
I think painting the cottage trims white would spruce it up, and like you said, make it more uniform with the chateau.❤
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
It gives a good feeling when you just can thic one job of the list.
Although this job gave another job back.... the other lamps hanging on the cottage. Wait for it Tracy.....,i think one year.
@ around 4:18, the piece behind Tracey is beyond gorgeous! Paula's been a busy painting machine lately💞
You are all so talented you are a pleasure to watch. White would be right for the windows . Thank you for the amazing journey. 😊
I think the cottage windows would look good painted white. Restoration of the stairs to the cellar would be great. I found today's episode very interesting. It is such a pleasant change from all the gloomy news of all that is going on in the world. It is a little beacon of hope for the future.
I miss the panes in the cottage window glass. White windows would look wonderful.
Now that’s what I call a large drill piece…I couldn’t believe how far in it kept going! 😮😂 The lights will look great when they’re up.Although the wooden frame's at the cottage look really beautiful, I do feel they should be painted white, especially being so near to the Château to keep the flow the same. Very many thanks as always for sharing your incredibly inspiring hard work, and endless talents with us all. With lots of love and big hugs to you all From Scotland 🤗xxx
Thanks 👍
