    • @JayDragonarcProductions
      @JayDragonarcProductions Před 3 lety +47

      Can't explain the Archivian but the Sentinel is meant to be like that because the Entity has taken it over and is having a laugh at the expense of the Strategist Dalek - we just don't initially know that - and the implication here based on the lines about evolution and beauty is that the Mechanoids are no longer entirely unemotional automations. Which is a great irony. The out-and-out robots have a better understanding of it than the creatures inside a tank-like casing do.

    • @fuccasound3897
      @fuccasound3897 Před 3 lety +29

      Daleks are not emotionless, they simply channel any emotion into self preservation, violence and hatred of 'the other'. i.e. anything that is not a Dalek. Normally a sad Dalek would channel that emotion into an orgy of destruction but Daleks are also logical, in this situation acts of violence would lead to the destruction of the last remaining Daleks so part of the Emperors 'sadness' comes the fact it can't allow itself to use its gun. Daleks created simply for war, are less like this with more sadistic tendencies and are logical but lack any imagination. Oh and the Dalek's home planet is spelt, Skaro.

    This is one of the best things to come from the show in a long while for me! For too long, the Daleks have just been shouty tin cans who can’t even kill people and now, finally, the Daleks are being given personalities and actual character traits. They’re not robots, they’re living creatures who have a culture of their own (as show in ‘The Daleks’) and it’s lovely to see that come back to the species. My only complaint, aside from the odd weird camera movement, is that it’s not 30 minutes long as this episode felt like it ended very abruptly.

And the reason they were made an enemy of The Doctor is because The Doctor, themselves dislike war and violence. There is one thing they find beautiful.

      I agree. I’ve written a couple of papers on the Daleks, and I’ve always come to a conclusion that is just a more wordy way of saying what you just said LMAO. The Daleks go through a lot of eras of different philosophies on genetics throughout their timeline. They start to explore a little, they start to give individual Daleks more room to be individuals, and then inevitably something goes wrong (a Dalek goes rogue, there’s a civil war, they see a higher number of failures, etc) and they get strict again. The point where the Dalek Prime Minister, who seemed to be responsible for bringing on a new period of philosophical renaissance to the Daleks of the Far Future and the Post-New Paradigm, teased that Daleks find hatred beautiful was one such time where Daleks were allowed some freedom to be alive. In THIS timeline, an alternate timeline that remains untouched by the Last Great Time War, we’re seeing another such time where the Daleks are experimenting with a little bit more room for individuality. But even with this expanded allowance for individuality, they still have to abide by accepted Dalek philosophies, lest they face horrifying moral dilemmas, have their memories redacted, or are outright killed for purity’s sake. The Emperor recognizes what beauty is by definition and theoretics, but the idea of beauty is so bleak and intangible to a Dalek mind. He might even understand exactly what he’s missing. But that doesn’t matter. I know this comment is from a long time ago, but we see later in the series, he uses the word “beautiful” to describe the Strategist’s double-betrayal. Although I personally feel like he just said that to emotionally manipulate the Strategist into feeling recognized (Daleks, for creatures who claim to not need much emotion, are surprisingly skilled at emotional manipulation), this is a much more Dalek-acceptable understanding of beauty: an efficient strategy that harmed enemies and benefitted the Daleks (specifically the Dalek emperor).

    Best episode yet- I really enjoyed this. The dialogue and interactions in this were on point. Loving the Daleks having to think outside the box I mean pepperpot and the fight or unite tensions including the different motives and (re)actions of different Daleks/Mechonoids and the inevitably questionable nature of their motives. Can you please make the TV series team take note- this had better character/ believable emotion and so on than the TV show has sometimes had recently- they've done better with Daleks and Mechonoids here than the recent TV show has sometimes managed for even human characters (with weird jarring moments such as somebody dies or gets lost status unknown but somebody who knows them shows no sign of any reaction to this whatsoever), so a good lesson in good writing- you know some actual emotional involvement, sense of reality and character/depth, the TV show is still very good but it has lost something it had in this respect- it may be getting it back though as there were signs of things improving so if they give the cast a bit more to work with it will hopefully continue to improve as it's already got much better than it had been.
