    Having worked at a Veterinary clinic for many years I'm always happy when a cat comes in loudly complaining about being at the Vets. If they have the strength and confidence to complain they aren't in immediate danger of dying. If the come in quietly and cooperate through the whole appointment it generally means something is very, very, wrong with them.

      My kitty loved the vet and was generally pretty cooperative. But he was the exception rather than the rule. Even when he was in pain from an obstruction and kidney failure he still purred and head butted and wanted his loves. The vet staff said he was a very sweet patient till the end

      That's how I knew my little cat was ready to go. She had cancer and it was just a matter of time. She was usually so gentle and sweet, but she despised going to the vet and made her opinion known. On that last visit, she was so meek and indifferent. Instead of struggling or being frozen with fear, she lay down on the table, closed her eyes, and let the vet do what he wanted. The vet and I made eyes contact and I knew we were both thinking the same thing, that it was time.

      @@conventfish I had to experience that same brutal eye contact "conversation" with my husband, to put our beloved red heeler down. She was only 4. Her liver was so damaged she had no chance of recovery though. That was 2 years ago and yet sometimes the image of the anguish in my dear husband's eyes comes back to me fresh and clear like it was yesterday. And we still miss our precious Lacey Facey every day.
      It's just so painful. My deepest condolences on your loss 🙏

      My cats sound EXACTLY like that when they have to ride in the carrier for a drive to town. It's why I let them out for the drive back (it's 45 minutes). It's hard to get them into the carrier (a large one the pair of bonded litter mates can share) at home, but easy to carry the two (strictly) house cats back in. They also don't mind getting back into the carrier at the vet because they're ready to get back home, but they will cry (sounding horribly desperate) once in the car. It's a heart-breaking sound!

      @@DeannaAKADeanna I wonder if he was the one who were injured Molly in the first place when he went trespassing on her turf and she defended her food. What angers me is that people haven’t had their cats neutered so people like Morgan are having to deal with the resulting issues. I.e. big entire tomcats running around the district starting fights potentially spreading disease and making any intact female pregnant. Thankfully Morgan had both his females sterilised. Otherwise the place will be awash with kittens. Obviously Pablo was castrated long before Morgan got hold of him. On the plus side for the feral tomcat after a castration operation and a bit of time indoors hopefully he will settle down to having a more productive life. Also one which will entail less violence as he won’t be wandering around having sex with every female cat in the district. I hope Molly makes a full recovery. People forget that as well as being a rodent catcher she’s also part of that crossover group of animals for both workers and pets at the same time. They are long-term members of the Goldshaw farm set up. Whatever Morgan has to spend on vets bills and food for his cats they more than repay him by keeping the rodent population from turning into a small plague.
      With Pablo being castrated it means that Morgan has to have him in the house as he’s had them at times when his health has been bad, he doesn’t stick the place out because he’s an entire Tom. Even though we all know Pablo doesn’t like living indoors full time. I suspect the two females would happily become cats he would go hunting Outdoors but the same token happy to be part time house cats. And because Morgan has put the time in with them in terms of handling them especially the Ginny from an early age, they are some angry Ferals.

    • @alistairjamesheaton9155
      @alistairjamesheaton9155 Před 2 lety +3

      Definitely. The fact that Morgan has had all three of his Queens spayed so he’s not drowning in kittens, means that there are probably less toms around the farm from there would be otherwise but let’s face it that bloody feral Tom is the result of somebody not getting their cats fixed.
      I just wish people would get the cats fixed. There are so many unwonted cats around the world. And thankfully his three girls are not contributing to that and neither is Pablo. Even if Pablo is a grumpy old bugger.
      The elephant in the room of course is that the feral Tom could’ve brought in disease onto the farm which Morgan doesn’t want so by having him out of the picture there’s less chance of disease transmission between the cats the Tom interacting and Morgan’s cats. I hope the tomcats minus his manhood is very happy at his new home. Even if he is a very aloof feral cat hopefully he will enjoy many happy years his new home range.

      If he realizes there's good food and safety there, he'll stay. Lots of barn cats aren't people-friendly but are still kept around because they help with pest control. It's different than the relationship between a human and a housecat, but still mutually beneficial.

      So long as they get him fixed and don't immediately release him, he should settle in okay.
      Cats have a very strong homing sense, so if they just immediately released him, he'd probably find his way back to Morgan's farm- even if it's miles away. Luckily it sounds like they've done this before and plan on keeping him contained for a few weeks to settle into his new home. And with all the rodents around and no Molly, Ginny or Pablo to compete with, he should have a fairly good home!

      Unless they allow the baby birds to free-roam, &/or also have smaller birds, too? ..Yeah. 😅
      Cats can/will/ definitely hunt small birds every bit as readily as they hunt mice, or rats, or chipmunks, or squirrels.
      Hopefully it all works out though, and the new owner is able to tame and bond with them a little as well so that they are even more incentivized to stick around their new place. (Just as long as there's no real trouble between the cat and the birds or anything...and the cat gets a clean bill of health from a vet, and all.^-^)

    • @SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648
      @SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, it looked fortuitous that it was not worse. The feral was caught instead of Molly, so was readily transported to new turf. The cat should be kept from tangling with the birds (larger birds like full grown poultry can guard themselves well, but baby birds need to be watched -- something that Toby does on Gold Shaw), yet it should be welcome to the mice that are being attracted by scattered bird feed.
      Also, cat eyes have better protection than we might think, due to the inside eyelid or nictitating membrane. A successful attack on a cat's eye would have to breach both coverings, whose closing points are offset and do not overlap. A wounded nictitating membrane can look horrendous and the eye it sacrificially protected can still be just fine. This makes sense given the kind of animals that cats typically chase as food, and the way those animals fight back with beak, tooth, and claw. Nature isn't stupid.
      Molly to Feral: Fssssst!
      Feral to Molly: Here's a bite on your eye!
      Molly (with an eyeball that is just fine) to Morgan: I hate a cat carrier even worse!
