      pre-order mine day 1 when they release keynote on CES , also try it at Taipei few week ago (I'm taiwanese) it's fine but the screen seems little dark for me , the guy who host demo say LCD on real product is better than demo HMD , I really hope that's true

    • @cheapcrackers4772
      @cheapcrackers4772 Pƙed rokem +2

      I think a simpler way to give it a more appealing consumer price point would be to offer a headset only option (no battery strap, no controllers) as a $650 direct upgrade to the Vive Flow (Assuming the XR elite can be used with a phone the same way? It's not clear at the moment). More people would probably pay that price point and get the controllers later, while $1,000+ would prevent them from even considering it, despite the final amount paid being the same.
      And as you've touched on a couple of times, HTC really should leverage the Viveport Infinity subscription way more than they are. It's such an insane value even as a PCVR user, and none of their competitors are offering similar services.

      Seb, you need to try your Quest Pro some more. Yes, very comfy at first, then headache after 1 hour. That's all true. However, there is a third chapter. Once you get used to the pressure on your forehead, it feels like nothing. You may find that you can no longer go back to anything that touches your face, no matter how light it is. I can ware the Quest Pro nonstop for a whole day. I challenge anyone to do the same with a ski goggle!

      For me, it's not about "installment payments", its about a belief that its not worth $1100 and if what that person said about the 110 fov confusion is true, even more fuel on the fire for why it's NOT worth it. When I think $1100 dollar plus value, I think of something with pankcake lenses, 2160 x2160 res, true 110 horizontal/vertical FOV, wired and wireless capability with wifi 6E, standalone ability, self charger, decent controllers, at a bare minimum and if they want to throw more into the cake, awesome. I wish more people would be less willing to accept mediocre BS to be truthful

    I honestly think the Vive XR Elite would be perfect if their controllers were self tracked so that we can put the controllers behind our heads and back and stuff with out problems
    OR..
    If it was still compatible with their Base Stations for native/standalone Full Body Tracking without external apps for calibrating.
    Making full body fast and available like on an Index but with a headset that is also standalone would be great! I know Pimax has headsets that are promising this but they don't have the app libraries to the level of Quest or Vive.. or my trust tbh. In all honesty, I don't care much about standalone, I really only play PC VR but the reason why I got a Quest 2 over the much more powerful Valve Index was because of wireless PC VR play, at that price with a feature like that I really couldn't say no to the Quest 2.
    I am happy you described the Vive Xr Elite as the most comfortable headset, honestly since the depth sensor is not fully functional and we don't know the price for the face tracking module (or other modules that may exist).. I think I will stick with my Quest 2 for now and wait on those announcements, see how the Vive headset progresses, see how it does with different hardware (ie quest or index controllers) & of course wait for the announcement of the Quest 3 to see what that will offer. Thanks for your honest review!

      I still have my Rift S too paired with a laptop. I added a HP Reverb G2 V2 for the higher res, Fov, audio, and comfort. I think I’ll have to wait on Valve to save the day as far as new headsets are concerned. I bet it will be killer. I have a bad feeling investing in anything using old XR2 chips. The XR Elite is a nice bit of kit though. If I am going to spend over $1000 it might as well be with Valve.

      @@rangerkayla8824 it's true we have had a VR drought for a while but if you wait just a bit longer new hardware is probably going to flood the market soon. The thing that burns me is how long they've milked the old gen 1 XR chips. Maybe AMD will change the game but I have a feeling some beefier alternative is going to rock everything. If you need something now I guess at least you have options. It seems we are stuck on gen 1 Qualcomm chips regardless of clock speeds. I mean with the exception of Meta, the tracking/ controller scheme hasn't really changed for 3rd parties adopting XR. The HTC Elite is a nice bit of kit wish the price was a little lower given the risk of what's coming in that price bracket.

    great video sebastian, i think this headset is really awesome! my dream forever is small lightweight formfactor that i can wear comfortably for hours. other option is now bigscreen beyond but i dont have steam controllers or lighthouse trackers, so a very difficult upgrade for people like me and most people. This has everything you need which is great plus has color passthrough, wireless, standalone...your likely right glasses mode less comfortable and supportive but i think they or 3rd party can easily fix that issue with attachable soft strap to clip in that goes around back of head like the bigscreen one. super exciting times for vr

  • @superani4704
    @superani4704 Pƙed rokem +1

    Recently I picked up a Pico4 to replace my Quest2. The Pico4 was definitely more comfortable and lighter. The view seemed much wider and the dark binocular circles were greatly minimized. Unfortunately after a few days in, I've noticed this really awful lens glare. It seemed permanent in the lenses so there was no way to shake it. Granted, it was less noticeable in certain places but more noticeable in others, ruining the immersion completely. So my quest for my next vr headset starts again. The Quest Pro was enticing at the new $1000 price tag, but I believe you mentioned the binocular overlap wasn't all that great. I rarely even game in vr, I just want a headset with clean, crisp, very minimal glare, nice bino overlap, (so I'm not seeing the two dark circles) so I can enjoy some movies. I did just pulled the trigger on the Vive Elite so wish me luckđŸ€ž.

      Thanks, I had the opposite experience myself, but it is such a low profile form factor I think there will be quite a big variation in experience. It took me a bit to play with adjustments to get the fit right, but once I did it has been an excellent for me especially with the diopters. The resolution for me is much better than Q2, QP may have slight edge due to local dimming but not significantly different for me. Perhaps my eyes align to the sweet spot we'll but didn't have setup issues many have complained about myself. I was up and running with all modes tested without issue after about 3 hours. Paired with 4 different PC's no issue there as well. It isn't perfect though, pass through while better than most wasn't great, hand tracking hasn't been that smooth, FOV is Q2 level, and there is significant light bleed in many instances when you have white text on black background. For my purpose though productivity (able to work for a few hours on virtual screens), travel, and a quick up and running of my steam game library it has been perfect for me. Given the cost and the need to buy $80 streaming cable for wired PCVR, as well as $200 battery pack, it is hard to recommend for the casual VR user.

    Seb is HTC going to fix:
    1) The faceplate from falling off. Everyone I know who tried it had the faceplate moving or falling out of the headset on to the floor. Will they use stronger magnets and tighter tolerances to hold the faceplate better? Hopefully the frame will have more material to grip it in place.
    2) Also the “glasses mode” is very loose with the attachable arms.
    Overall it definitely looks like a great headset. Do you think they will be ready to ship with all these fixes in time at launch?
    I really wish they sold these at $900 even if they had to sell the glasses mode and extra batteries separately to make up the cost difference. $1100 is too much.

FOV has to be between 85 -90 is far too small and after testing Half Life Alyx I thought that looked better in the Quest 2 - yes in a ÂŁ300 headset over this ÂŁ1300 headset. AR is a selling point for this headset, even if there will not be a lot of stuff out for it right away. I am concerned at this point that they still have not turned the depth sensor on at this point. They keep doing "broken" demos with technology being turned off. I get the face tracking stuff is out of their control, but they really need to show the stuff they do have, even if it is not 100% ready.
    I am still going to stick with my previous statement that this is a $800 (MSRP) headset at best. Trying to sell it for more, with the specs, is ultimately going to hurt the product overall due to low adoption. If XR elite going to have 100 vertical which it seems it could be it's good. And Quest 2 max was 97 and I felt like it is decent enough so a few degrees more would be nice. Thanks for this review. I have a Quest Pro I can return till the 6th, I am feeling conflicted. I like HTC better spiritually, and Quest is clearly aimed strictly at gamers with its pervasive childish graphics, but the QPro has eye & face tracking and a larger ecosystem.
    It's my first headset, so I can't really calibrate expectations, but I don't find the QPro to be very comfortable, and I like the form factor of the XR Elite a lot. I'd just have to pay for the eye tracking later.
    But I think that HTC is aiming this at business and enthusiasts, and in the fall will come out with a mainstream consumer version.
    They are really asking a lot of their enthusiasts, with just promises that features like the depth sensors will be significant. If they really wanted to be fair, they would let early reviewers compare it to the QPro and others in extended head to head reviews.
    We are just coming out of a chip shortage and heading into a surplus, and this will also give time for lens and new tech production to ramp up. I think a lot of early adopters are going to feel burned.
