To anyone that seems s bit confused. This is a standalone XR2 powered Android HMD. Similar to Quest 2 or Pro but with better hand tracking that also works in the dark thanks to IR lights, two color cameras for true stereoscopic passthrough with low latency (photon to photon), has an open platform (you can access as ll sensors, so great for research and experiments), and no data mining from social companies, run and designed from France within EU (made in Taiwan and assembled in China). Controllers are in development and will come later, and also be compatible with the next version.

    • @Orain88
      @Orain88 Před rokem +3

@@sonicsnake44 I'm excited for the mixed reality aspect but honestly my biggest gripe with the VR space as a whole is the dominance of fresnel lenses. They destroy the illusion of 3d space in my opinion. I have 3 headsets so far, the psvr, the Oculus rift, and the hp reverb g2 and despite the extreme gap in resolution between the psvr and g2, I genuinely find that the combination of the oled display and pancake lenses makes psvr the more tangible VR experience.
Even when I run a game at max resolution on the g2 with super crisp definition, I still feel like I'm looking at screen with a 3d effect rather than feeling immersed in the space. Psvr may be comically low res by comparison but it still feels more like I'm IN the game world.
Anyway, all this ranting is to say that I'm super excited to find out how the 3d-ness of virtual space feels with these new lenses. And from Brad's description, it sounds promising.

@@codex4048 you can jerry rig a Rift S to work with Index controllers and it will have the same resolution and slightly larger FOV, but nobody wants to do that.
I'm not trashing the headset it looks interesting for MR, I'm just responding to comments on this thread that say it's better than the Quest Pro. It's not. You can't use for anything unless you spend another £600 (taking your total cost to £1600) on Valve base stations and Index controllers and can then play PCVR on a Rift S resolution and tiny screen.
Or you could save £100 and get a stellar PCVR and standalone game experience out of the box with Quest Pro.
This headset is only going to be of use to small enterprise and companies who can use it showcase their products or businesses or for developers building apps.

I feel Quest-3 and Quest-Pro are going to be Meta's big flop and give competition a clear runway for overshadowing the anti-competitive meta giant. _(they buy up talent and tech startups all over the place and block competition access)_

Why would Quest 3 flop? It will be the biggest selling VR headset release in 2023 by far. What do you think the Lynx offers consumers exactly? Let's say you buy one. What are you going to do with it? Serious question.

    • @zackmac5917

Quest 3 will probably be the best selling VR headset for quite a while.
PSVR 2 will also be competing for best selling.
Both of these headsets are going to do incredibly well and take us into the next phase of mainstream VR adoption with 10s of millions more users.
But I suspect Quest 3 will sell the most.
A smaller, lighter, pancake lens, higher resolution, wider FoV, MR capable, significantly more powerful upgrade to the Quest 2 is a clear winner.
The MR capability should be better than Quest Pro, as they'll have a year since Quest Pro launch to iron out the kinks and improve it, and it seems like it will also include a depth sensor, which should help significantly improve it.
I honestly don't see how it wouldn't be a massive success (as long as they bring some big new content), given how successful Quest 2 is.

Quest 3 will be a success, same recipe with the Quest 2 but with way more power. Quest Pro was rushed to get the high end market before Apple, it will be polished and probably become the standard.

@@jonathanantoine4962 yes its a funny headset the Quest Pro. The lenses are so good it's rendered all Fresnel headsets obselete, like I can't even use my Reverb G2 any more it looks so bad in comparison but Meta instead of marketing it for gaming touted all of these new features like MR, eye tracking and face tracking which have been completely functionally useless up to now.
Hopefully the Quest Pro 2 will deliver on the promise of this new tech, but with these lenses the Quest 3 will be a killer headset for £500 and people are in for a treat.

You seem to always give good feedback and willing to turn a blind eye for projects you personally enjoy even when they have no real value whatsoever, from a pure pragmatical point of view, while instead being very harsh and critical otherwise for things you don't personally enjoy, no matter their usefulness in their niche. What are you going to do with the Lynx R1? Play the demo 300 times? Please. I understand you are an enthusiast that likes to look for something new or advancements in the field, but I wonder how much practical the advice you give seriously is. You just bashed the Crystal because it was too bulky and it had software issues, while the headset itself has probably the clearest visuals around and it's a very good headset for stationary purposes (as sims) but here you are, praising a headset that has very little practical purpose outside of a little demo and at most two other applications (that nobody will ever use after a month).
Everyone can have his/her opinion but a reviewer should also be able to know and counteract his/her personal biases to give a worthwhile assessment of the situation.
