    To add to what "S"said that "sugaring" is actually oxidation of the weld and in a matter of months you find the headers cracking from the inside out! When welding any form of stainless you must "Back purge" the weld! I also agree what was said about using a screen defuser when welding SS. You may consider talking about the primary tube lengths and trying to get them the same length. Finally you never talk about "Merge collectors" and the advantages of scavenge that they have. I will say you definitely have one impressive piece there with out a doubt!!

    great vid!! you should back purge stainless, the sugaring left from no shielding gas on the back side of the weld will have the same effect as leaving the burrs from cuts.

    Someone asked about 321 SS that is what you may want to use for building a turbo system due to the higher temps seen with those exhaust systems.

    Awesome vid on headers!!! I make exhaust on my little go kart engines on my channel but usually nothing that intense but I do make my own mufflers too. I even got my own muffler design I use. Maybe a vid on different muffler designs for different apps would be a good vid. or maybe make your own muffler be cool too. Good tip also would be to use string or a couple bread ties to make that line around the tubing square on a bend in case you have to free hand a cut with a hand grinder.

      you back purge to eliminate carbide precipitation (sugaring) and the best welders will tell you stainless HAS to be back purged if full penetration is gonna be achieved and yes, even good welders watch youtube videos just to see how other guys are doing things

    Hi, great video. First question is why do you use lanthiolated rather 2% Thoriated tungsten ? Worried about radiation when grinding tungsten.Also why not back purge tubes when welding, it would weld better., have you ever used a mini tig torch equipped with a bigger diameter gas lens allowing for more stick out of tungsten. This is just a friendly opinion from my career of being a union pipe welder .

    • @bustedknuckleoffroadllc5060
      @bustedknuckleoffroadllc5060 Před 8 lety +2

      +Frank Romeo I like lanthanated tungsten simply because i can jump from aluminum to steel and stainless without having to change tungsten. Yes, i actually use gas lenses a lot, but i went for a #7 cup because of how tight everything was. Technically you should purge both sides of stainless before welding but i wasnt getting full pen welds and diddnt have any sugar on the inside. Thanks for the reply!

    How bad do you think a true dual 4 cylinder header would be to make? As well as the sound I'm thinking true dual, small pipes with an x pipe. Mild steel. And do you make your header flange or do you buy?

    • @BustedKnuckleVideo

So not a buggy or cart but a scooter trike i been building/modding my trike has a wide frame with the motor in the middle tocked away making any bolt on options not work.. Looking into building my own from the nothing i know about building my header pipe my cheapest and easiest option is flex pipe, tape, and header kits no bending only cut and weld.. I hope im not right and you can tell me a simple way to bend a header pipe lol or confirm my idea of a kit.. Thank yous

    • @yotasteve3646
      @yotasteve3646 Před 8 lety

      I was thinking the same thing, and judging by the fact that a coating will not burn off of stainless, I assume he did mean galvanized

    • @bustedknuckleoffroadllc5060
      @bustedknuckleoffroadllc5060 Před 8 lety +4

      +Martyn Sir, i was talking about ceramic coating mild steel headers after fabrication. Pretty much any coating will become dull and fail in an offroad situation. Also, i screwed up when i said "dont use stainless steel" i meant "dont use stainless steel wool". I tried steel wool after my ceramic coating started to get dull and it ruined the ceramic.
