I did not expect such a somber tone for this scene. I truly believe Linlin cared deeply for Kaido like a kid brother and probably felt a lot of resentment when kaido left. Because in her eyes, thats basically abandonment, and we all know she has abandonent issues

That's why Kaido's been seeking an honorable death. If you look at the impact Roger and WB's deaths had, it makes sense why Kaido strives for that. Those were his superiors. As much as he believes he's could find the OP, he also feels that he's accomplished a lot in life and wouldn't oppose death if it came at the right person's hands. That's why he killed the old lady who interfered with his battle against Oden.

Goes to show that these veterans were just as ambitious and strong as Luffy, but unluckily weren't the destined ones. She didn't become the king of the seas but damn well near terrified everyone in it as an emperor.
Also how much of a parallel of Luffy she ALWAYS was for years now. She was always a Luffy analogue, minus the morality. Childish, obsessed with food and even her dream to have an island where every race lives in peace has some resemblance to Luffy's kind of mentality of leaving islands better than he found them. She's just EVEN MORE immature than him and lacks empathy/morality.
it's not that they weren't the destined ones. It's that their ambition got corrupted somewhere along the way. For example, big mom wanted a world where all species live in peace. Except she then created a dictatorship where they're forced to live together under her rule. Kaido similarly wanted a historic death, but then decided to just try to jump off an island instead
@@haiku_king Everyone has different reasons to become king of the seas and there's no right or corrupted version of it. Roger didn't unite nor bring peace to all races, neither has that ever been Luffy's goal (although it might happen). Ace, Law, Kidd also didn't share the same end goal as Luffy and there are a lot of strong characters with "pure" intentions who can't claim this title as well. Rather, it has everything to do with destiny. From the devil fruit you ate, to your lineage (will of D, celestial dragons, samurai etc..), to being the Joyboy that was prophecized to return at certain time in the future etc. Point is, One Piece has made it abundantly clear that everyone has a role and a destiny to follow.
@@thegatorhator6822Precisely. I like to think of it as Big Mom eventually had her goal morph into something akin to forcing toys together in a doll house for her own selfish enjoyment, whereas Luffy wants people to come together so they can be happy (and eat as much food as they want 😊).
And, considering the themes of Inherited Will, it may not even be destiny, but whether or not you carry the dreams of those who have gone before with you. There's a certain power, a force imparted to those who carry those wills in themselves, and Luffy seems to be carrying the will of everyone who cries out for freedom. That's a huge boost.

As much as Kaido might try to deny it and spout how oni shouldn't make friends with humans, he still cares about a select few people, some of them being human. Kaido and Big Mom probably had the best relationship they could have considering they are both extremely flawed, monstrous people. To see, even for a short moment, that Kaido is upset over the loss of a friend is heartbreaking

@@eriksand7553 Because, at the end of the day, Kaido is still a person. Seeing this clip without the context of knowing who Kaido is or what he has done, you might find the empathy to take pity on this broken man. If this were a different character, it would be a lot easier to do so. Imagine this exact scene happening to a Straw Hat, or any other generally perceived good character in the series, Garp even, and you might see it as heartbreaking.
Kaido is a reserved man who doesn't take the time to forge many bonds with others. So, seeing one of those precious few bonds be lost is sad to see, even though he is still the villain. By the time of his demise, he and most of his generation would be gone, forgotten with little left to show for it.
@@DanWestErupt I agree! It is satisfying to watch evil people who do bad things get what they deserve, but they are still people. When you see a villain suffer, you still see a person suffer, and you can still take pity on them and wish things were different.
She may have been nothing short of a Monster, but she’ll be remembered by us all whether we want to or not.

Seeing Kaido the Mighty Wano Dragon remembers the years spent with Big Mom in his youth makes me now realize that all that excessive drinking is a coping mechanism for all the people from his legendary generation dying at the oldest age and The Mighty Wano Dragon is the last one left. It's actually very sad once you realize it.🐉

From Luffys perspective Kaido is just a stepping stone or should I say a mountain to climb over.
To kaido he’s seeing all his ally’s from the old generation either dying or down right getting folded.
Imagine seeing all your old friends pass away and get beat for new rivals and generations to come and fill their spots
I understand but Luffy doesn’t see him as a stepping stone he sees him as a horrible tyrant who has subjugated a country for his own profit from people who worked hard and deserve freedom.
@@RocketOttoI'd like to think Luffy saw both in Kaido. He recognized that insane power Kaido held, being one of the four Yonkos and all. So that became Luffy's next goal. And then the suffering of the people of Wano revealed more about Kaido, giving Luffy even more drive to take down Kaido. It was a similar song and dance to previous islands, but with Wano, it was special due to just how deep the country's history ran.
We gotta respect this two legends. Kaido & Big Mom.
Her childhood was so sad and she developed into a worse person. She's horrible (as we saw in whole cake arc), but has her soft sides as we saw with her and chopper. She started remembering the kids she lost in her childhood. I hope she didn't die and arrives back as a better person, not seeking revenge to Law and Kid. Also maybe accepting and becoming an ally to Luffy? Idk. Literally didn't feel happiness after she fell down, just sad and relief ig

Big Mom's yo-yo-ing physique aside, Kaido learning the hard way that no matter how powerful you may be, you could even be the most powerful creature in the world, there is no beating time. And the next generation. Roger knew that. Whitebeard knew that.
I always forget that out of Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido that Kaido was the baby. Also always forget that Big Mom was fine as hell at one point.
Thats how all the women in One Piece world work.
It's sad really. But during Big Mom's final moments her entire life flashes before her eyes, and none of her children are in any of the flashback images.
It's said that in the final moments of life one can see the true nature of a person.
The heartbreaking reality is that Linlin never loved any of her kids. Not even ones like Katakuri and Pero who did their best to serve her. She only saw Kaido and Caramel as a loved one and that's it. Everyone else was a tool to her.
We don't know if she is actually dead or not.

Big mom was, while having her problems like her obsession with food, was a genuinely good person at first but time and age twisted her ambition and thus herself into something monstrous. her good personality shines through from time to time though. like protecting a little girl who gave her food.
She was corrupted by that one guy who turns stuff into food, forget his name.

One way or another, everyone in their generation is a stepping stone for the next. Either teaching them what they need to cross the next hurdle or being the hurdle themselves.

Kaido isn’t a good person. In fact, he’s evil enough to try blowing his own child up without regret.
However, he does have feelings. It’s clear Big Mom was like, well, a mother to him, and his tears here are genuine.
And that’s what makes One Piece great. Even the outright bad guys get their moments of humanity.

It's amazing that Big Mom was active during her pregnancy. Usually, it's extremely dangerous for the unborn child, but then again, this is Big Mom. Giving birth 43 times from ages 18-60...

The fact that Lin Lin was the probably the first person that treated him with the care someone so young needed. Of course he was 10x stronger than regular people, but a kid is a kid, no matter how fast they grow. This probably actually broke his heart

A lot of that had to do with Streusan I’d bet. It’s clear from the Flashback she was a much more caring person back then. Makes me wonder if the events of God Valley + More of Streusan’s influence twisted her view on the world.

With all respect, she was fighting with every ounce of strength she had against the worst generation, and to finish it she was shocked while pierced into the planet while Kid uses a galick gun on her, then while she was on 1 HP, Law used a technique and threw her into a raging volcano. She fought hard and valiantly, and she died. RIP Big Mom.

Despite how they are and what their old crew was like there’s still a bond there they’ve know each other for years so it’s like a strange almost sibling like bond. But it also seems to be more than that it’s like Kaido is realizing that they are getting older and their era is at an end.
