He might be antagonistic to all pirates, but he has strong belief in justice.

Akainu now truly feels like he understands the weight behind the title "Fleet Admiral". When he was just a Admiral, he seemed more like a weapon for carrying out his values. Now, he seems like the ultimate commander-in-chief who understands that he has his job to fulfill while also managing what the higher-ups want from him.
His defeat at Luffy's hands shook up his entire world view. For most of Lucci's life he believed that things only went a certain way and that destiny predetermined whether you were weak or strong. So for someone like Luffy, a literal nobody in Lucci's eyes to not only defy his expectations but to surpass them was a knock to the nogging he wasn't expecting. Lucci won't be satisfied until he can redeclare that his world view is correct so if he gets a chance to fight Luffy, he's going to. I mean, he gets absolutely fucking bodied but he still put up a decent fight.
To fight Luffy is to fight a few of the strongest superpowers in the world. Rayleigh and the Amazons is nuisance enough. Add in the grand fleet and his old friends like Alabasta and Dressrosa, and the fishmen, you got yourself a full-blown war.

Because we have watched the Straw Hats rise to the top from day one, we sometimes are too close to realize that they are what Shanks' group was when we started watching One Piece. They are on the highest level and feared or respected by the whole world.

Luffy isn't just an emperor but the youngest one ever.. all those One piece legends were literally nobodies when they were Luffy's age.. but my man here already fought through a major war, triggered and won a few civil wars, gathered allies with many kingdoms and races, has his own fleet even though he doesn't acknowledge it.. all the while all he had to let anyone know to stand out was to tell them his granddad is a marine hero or that his dad is the government's no.1 enemy..
Akainu now truly feels like he understands the weight behind the title "Fleet Admiral". When he was just a Admiral, he seemed more like a weapon for carrying out his values. Now, he seems like the ultimate commander-in-chief who understands that he has his job to fulfill while also managing what the higher-ups want from him.

His defeat at Luffy's hands shook up his entire world view. For most of Lucci's life he believed that things only went a certain way and that destiny predetermined whether you were weak or strong. So for someone like Luffy, a literal nobody in Lucci's eyes to not only defy his expectations but to surpass them was a knock to the nogging he wasn't expecting. Lucci won't be satisfied until he can redeclare that his world view is correct so if he gets a chance to fight Luffy, he's going to.
I mean, he gets absolutely fucking bodied but he still put up a decent fight.
Akainu doesn't fear luffy only the actions he is bringing.

@nobodywashere4743 don't see why with his Devil Fruit alone, he should be able to sink maybe half the fleet.
To fight Luffy is to fight a few of the strongest superpowers in the world. Rayleigh and the Amazons is nuisance enough. Add in the grand fleet and his old friends like Alabasta and Dressrosa, and the fishmen, you got yourself a full-blown war.

Marine ain't afraid of the war against SHs but the possible backup that might show up. Going up against SHs fleet, RA, Rayleigh, Garp etc isn't gonna be easy compared to WBs fleet.
And then WB told his crew to keep SH alive, so some of them might show up as well.
Backup that arrivwd for Luffy on Egghead was OP though (not gonna spoil). Marines shat their pants. Sakazuki was right about not engaging.

It's funny how not to long ago people were calling him and his crew "rookie pirates". Even tho luffy has been running circles around these big named pirates. Whole Cake Island being a prime example where he defeated two sweet generals, stole a road glyph, smashed a priceless picture, added jimbe to the crew and essentially made a fool of a yonko.

Because we have watched the Straw Hats rise to the top from day one, we sometimes are too close to realize that they are what Shanks' group was when we started watching One Piece. They are on the highest level and feared or respected by the whole world.
