  • In this video I show you how to upgrade your EVE-NG virtual machine from version 4.x to version 5.x. Upgrading will allow you to gain access to the new virtual device images and features that have been added to the EVE-NG platform.
Checkout the step-by-step upgrade guide from EVE-NG:

When I feel like i'm getting a grasp of things, something new just hits me. Maybe put together a newbie guide to what eve-ng is? Why would you need it? Also how you implement it into your system? When I hear virtual I lean more towards proxmox & vmware. So you put a VM inside a VM? lol. This is more so for vlans? Could I just implement vlans on a pfsense/opnsense router or is this more preferable. So many questions.

Sure thing, thanks for the suggestion. To provide a short explanation EVE-NG is an emulation platform that allows you to lab up and test a variety of virtual images like (Cisco, Juniper, etc)

Is upgrades allowed with the Community edition? Or is it best completed the backup and export labs? Thank you.

In my opinion it's always a good idea to take backups if you have the storage space available, but be sure to read through EVE-NG's documentation regarding the steps necessary to upgrade the community edition: www.eve-ng.net/index.php/how-to-upgrade-eve-community-to-the-newest-version/

Thanks for this, I'm getting an error when I'm trying to start the VEX which is SLIM APPLICATION ERROR, code 8 , Message: Undefined variable: sat , file: /opt/unetlab/html/includes/api_nodes.php.
Not sure if you've been across this issue?

Hmm I haven’t come across this error in particular. Did the vex image work prior to performing the upgrade?
