Nick Wright explains why a Mahomes & Chiefs dynasty is NFL’s worst nightmare | Colin Cowherd NFL

- Colin Cowherd & Nick Wright debate whether a potential dynasty of Super Bowl trophies for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs is actually terrible for the NFL. Colin & Nick also discuss why the dynamic among Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach has paved the road to a lot of success so far for Kansas City.

Brett Veach deserves more credit. He begged the Chiefs to take Mahomes.
I was thinking after this run is done for the chiefs we need a rags to riches movie for Brett veach. Chronicle the events to picking mahomes. Something on the level like the draft day movie.
In college. Nagy was the QB and Veach the WR. Andy hired both as graduate assistants from the University of DE.
@@marks984Veach being a WR in college you’d think he’d know what to look for in the draft 🤷🏻♂️🥴. He’s whiffed more times than not.
@@dougreynolds6930He’s missed on WRs. He’s been really good otherwise. His drafts are a major reason they went back to back.
He took his boss’s job. I think that is credit taken.
I am a life time Chiefs fan. It was so bad for so much of my life being a fan of the the Chiefs. Right now I am just enjoying the ride. The Love people show us and even the hate all says one thing!
We are the dogs!! It won’t last forever but I am going to enjoy every minute of it!
To those who are not Chiefs fans I feel your pain and can only say don’t give up!! Go Chiefs!
Feel that 💯 fan since 89 bro
Preach dawg. Since I was born I been reppin let’s enjoy the ride
I’ve been telling people we deserve this KC was the browns of the 2000s it was rough being a teen and having your team be complete garbage
My hubby didn't want to watch the game alone, and so he taught me football. He told me to pick. I didn't know who to pick, so I picked all the Indian teams. He told me that they were loosers and every year he was tell me that they lost. This has been going on for 30 years, and now I'm enjoying every minute it, baby .hopefully, it goes on for another 15 plus years.
@joetowne9049 my husband taught me the game in 91 and told me to pick a team. I chose Washington Redskins, the Chiefs and the Braves.
Back when the Chiefs first got Andy Reid, I remember many Philly fans telling us that we would regret the hiring of him. He couldn't win the big one stuff. Thank you Philly for firing this man. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
To be fair... many Philly fans also honestly said he was a great coach. But yeah the big game talk. They are just a brutal fan base... no matter how much success if you don't win it all every year, they are going to complain loud!
The biggest thing about those guys not being able to beat the Chiefs is they each, almost universally, had better rosters all around than the Chiefs, and they still couldnt do it. If the Chiefs get the roster on par with them, they stand no chance in hell.
Last season was the year to beat them. They definitely will have a stronger offense next season.
Exactly
So your saying the bills had a better roster? Are you delusional? Josh Allen is a better QB, but has a JV roster.
@@brianhenry7983this comment might have gotten a few pity likes 4 years ago, but it’s clear by now Mahomes is in a class of his own
@@Dannycuddy Allen out put up better stats with nobody close to what the chiefs have. Put Allen in the chiefs and they win the super bowl every year easily.
Can we take a minute to respect the Satchel Paige and the KC Monarchs penant behind Nick? Buck O'neil was also a KC icon.
His late round picks include Kelce,Pacheco,Sneed,Tyreek.
Veach and Reid are geniuses
It was John dorsey that drafted Travis and Tyreek.
Brett Veach is as important as Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes...that is not an understatement!!! He deserves lots of credit. usually when you pay a Top salary Qb you can't pay the other important positions. Drafting is how to sustain winning championships!!!
Veach went to my highschool in bumfuck PA and now the whole town are like crazy cheifs fans.

Im just so happy to be a part of the big red and mahomes Era because we all know that eventually, it will end. I will look back many years later and talk about it with the grandkids
The NFL's nightmare is that Kansas City is a smaller TV market.
I don't think the market stuff translates the same for football. Take for instance Green Bay or Pittsburgh. The Chiefs had 5 of the top 10 broadcasts of TV last year.
It doesn't matter because every team who plays the Chiefs looks at that game like it is their Superbowl. The fans know when their teams are not playoff contenders. Their biggest game of the year is playing the Chiefs and hopefully have a Cinderella win game. Chiefs also get a huge amount of PR and very favorable national press. They are underdogs in most of their playoff games. It's real easy to get behind a team like that. The networks are also going to disappear soon replaced by the pay wall streaming companies.
I dont think NFL fans on game day are going "Oh we havta find a big market team to watch today so forget the Chiefs, yeah".
@@andrewchiu6226that market 💩 doesn’t mean anything in the NFL
Also the gambling revenue has almost caught up with the networks/streaming revenue. It willl quickly eclipse them soon. Gambling is where the future NFL money is. Chiefs are a great draw for gambling money.
I cannot express how much joy it brings me to see Nick when he is dramatic. It makes me smile.
As a Chiefs fan, this conversation makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I like it better when everybody underestimated the Chiefs.😒
Underestimating the chiefs is now the job of chiefs fans. Patty and Reid are all time clutch but moment to moment nobody can screw up as creatively and variably as the chiefs. Remember Kelce's lateral phase? When he literally almost cost us a game doing that? Remember Dee Ford running away from Derrick Henry? The year we had no receiver touchdowns? Luck scoop and scoring himself? Mariota catching his own pass? FORWARD PROGRESS? That's right. Let PTSD wash over you. Be nervous. We're the only ones who can be.
Luckily, there is still, a HUGE contingent that is very vocal that the Chiefs success is totally dependent on refs "having their back".
Well, we'll always have Stephan A. to count them out after they only win by 3 points 😅
@@haagenslash5963this comment gave me existential dread

I am a massive Chiefs fan but I will say this - DO NOT SLEEP ON THE HOUSTON TEXANS…. all they talked about was Allen, Burrow, and Lamar - . CJ Stroud is legit and will only improve on a stellar rookie season- the receiving corp is solid and their defense has some solid pieces. I expect them to be the biggest threat to the Chiefs. I also think Green Bay is going to be sneaky good next year in the NFC.
Naa, he's a one year wonder, the next desahun Watson

Andy and Pat are likable. Bellichick and Brady were not. That's why I root for the chiefs and didn't for the pats. And I'm enjoying seeing the chiefs win all the time. Good times.
Agreed. Brady and Bellicheck are kind of like those movie sports villains in the way how structured and emotionless they present themselves - coupled with deflate-gate, there's nothing romantic (as in idealized) about them being dominant. The Chiefs despite being winners still seem to be able to hang on to an underdog narrative just with how they present themselves and how they play.
@@ps3udologueOh Wait, but wasn't the stupid salary cap supposed to stop dynasties? I can't believe how people are that stupid to still believe that stupid narrative.
ALL OF THIS!!!!

Everyone will doubt the Chiefs every chance they get. They can’t help it. Bless their hearts.
About Colin's point on power - Andy Reid learned from his Eagles tenure that wearing both head coach and front office hats would undo him. If and when Bill Belichick gets another head coaching job, the organization may pair him up with somebody who worked under him, so that the division of labor is there but united.
The other important thing now is the amount of Championship winning experience the Chiefs have under their belt. It forces a team to be either extremely luckly and they MUST capitalize on every mistake the Chiefs make in the playoffs.
Good take. Appreciate the authenticity.
KC dynasty almost never occurred. If the chiefs had been successful in their attempt to trade up for Paxton Lynch, Mahomes and Jones would have been playing elsewhere. What makes it double fortuitous, is Lynch being drafted by the donkeys 😂

The chiefs are giving me GSW vibes. With KD that is, like if the squad is healthy I think they're going to the Superbowl.
Other teams need to step their game up. Not the Chiefs' fault teams like the Jets can't get their act together. Dallas had one of the best offensive lines, wide receiver core and running back and did nothing. Chiefs lost Tyreek Hill, Eric Bienemy and still doing what they're doing.
@@KNByam I'm not complaining, I love seeing other teams try to slay the giant.

Yall might think I’m crazy but Get ready to see a NFL team win 6 straight super bowls . These past 3 Super Bowl wins is just the beginning.
Yep. Gonna be lotta angry fans for the next ten years.
I’d be thrilled with a Threepeat! 🤞🤞
Edit: I will say that KC was very close to making the last 6 straight Super Bowls, so it’s not completely crazy or anything. A pre-snap offsides & overtime loss on a FG are what kept that from happening. The loss to the Bengals I’ll give to Cincy, but that would still be 5 Super Bowls in 6 years.
No chance, they won't win another one 😂😂😂
@@brianhenry7983you said that after they beat the eagles then they went B2b💀💀💀
@@swann433your not crazy bro they are guaranteed at least winning 4 in a row. They might go undefeated next season but even if they don't go undefeated they are winning the superbowl fasho. I'm guaranteeing a 4peat, I don't think 6 is farfetched though its deff realistic its not crazy.
Veach and Reid find the talent but don’t sleep on how good Andy and his staff are at coaching up these athletes. It’s an incredibly overlooked element of this franchise. Week 10-12 every year now, we’re kicking in with new cap friendly talent to compliment PM15. That’s the real deal here. The coach up. We’re better than anyone at that and add in 15 and it’s hard to get by us.
Life long chiefs fan.. Hold on to this era..Everyone remembers when we sucked in the 80s 90s were good with marty.just couldn't get over the mountain!
Marty ball smash mouth style doesn't work when playing from behind. Even in a more physical era championship teams win because they have the firepower to erase a deficit. The only teams that can get away with that are ones with all-time great defenses like the 85 Bears, 00 Ravens and the LOB Seahawks. But defenses like that rarely come around
The NFL thought they were cute at first but Chiefs hate will reach fever pitch soon enough. They're crushing the dreams of tens of millions of people. Every boo is really a cheer a this point.
Nick Wright...a face for radio.
I'm not sure when the Chiefs dynasty ends. If you look at the head personnel, you have everyone at the top of their game. Veach, Reid, Spags, Mahomes, Kelce, Jones and many others, when does it end? Veach keeps feeding new top players into the system to keep regenerating a winning format. It's scary for me, because I may not live long enough to see the demise!
It's not as great as you think. Burrow last season, and lamar and allen this season were a combined 6 or 7 plays away (a little over 2 plays a game) from stopping b2b to begin with.
@@mistersunshine1330meanwhile they didn’t and their seasons were worse than Mahomes. Mahomes even if he didn’t win the superbowls would have outplayed and had better seasons than them
The most Credit has to be given to the genius who put together the three current people at these crucial positions in this CHIEFS team.
(I thoroughly believe, that if these three people aren't together, the CHIEFS will not have the success that they are currently having):
#1. Head coach (A R)
#2. Quarterback (P M)
#3. Defensive coordinator (S S)
The last 2 years, put defense over the quarterback. They CARRIED that mediocre offense.
MAHOMES for another DECADE....GO CHIEFS
Thank you Collin for admitting about the chiefs division what I have been saying for 3 years. I also blame the Ravens for losing to the chiefs worse offense 🤭🤭🤭🤭
GREAT BREAKDOWN
A team as dominant as the chiefs have been the last 5 years has never happened before in the NFL. This is not good for the sport, it's not even fun watching one team be so dominant over every other team
And you still have, MANY people that think Chiefs suck, and the NFL is propping them up with refball.
It’s fun to be a Chiefs Fan
I relate so much to that artist doesn't want to control comment.
When he says “bad for nfl”, what he means is bad for the media covering the nfl/chiefs? Because they’re too good to doubt in honest fashion? So just make up the doubt. It never stopped media from making up stuff before anyways
This isn't a "media" thing. I personally was less interested in the Suoer Bowl (I've watched every single SB since I was under 10) because the Chiefs were there again, and I'm surely not the only one. The media loves Mahomes and Reid - for the most part.
@@chriscam876 who’s fault is it that they keep winning though? The fact that they did & because of that, people were disinterested, makes sense. Because I felt the same way about the patriots, but it’s not the winners fault they win, especially if they do it the right way like the chiefs. Fatigue is a real thing, but the media can’t speak on doubtful narratives honestly because they’re too good? Who cares? If they must talk negatively to promote interest, making stuff up never stopped them before. For example, saying the chiefs will miss the playoffs and the chargers will win the afc west is dumb as hell and obviously super wrong, but being dumb and wrong never stopped them before. Fan fatigue of a team just means more people will cheer for them to be beaten. Some fans might be salty enough to check out, but I see them as a minority. Chiefs only won 3 rings under Mahomes anyway and people are already acting like this. It’s possible he’s done winning at a high level for the rest of his career, but it’s also possible that he’s just getting started. It could potentially be a long ride.
@@chriscam876so your problem.not the chiefs.if you don’t like greatness .kick rocks

Nick has some good points (not that Colin didn't). We are lucky Pat grew up in pro sports, he sees being a pro like a job, a 24x7x365 job, not like "how to be rich and famous by 22 years old" sort of thing. This so far has kept him hungry, and his ego looking up, not down. Hopefully Veach can stay the same (not that I suspect or suggest anything.) Notice how Clark stays nearly out of the media, being a multi-billionaire and owning the winningest team in 20 years. Those 4 (Clark, Andy, Brett V, Pat), are being professionals each in their own positions and it makes us hard to beat over the long haul.
Now that I think about it...this does remind me of the Spurs a bit. I know a lot of people do not like KC and I would say rightfully so...I think a lot of people can't help but like the Chiefs. I think the difference is that there is just enough "buzz" around the team to make them entertaining.
It's very similar. A middle-of-the-country small-market team that focuses its efforts on winning through a culture that emphasizes not only hard work and personal responsibility but also the development of interpersonal relationships. Mahomes will often psych his players up by asking them to give "everything you got for the guy beside you" and I feel like both teams were full of players that elevated each other's games.
To say the Eagles beat the Patriots because of "trick plays" is such a weak take. Colin must forget NE ran their own trick play but didn't execute
Wherever Dorsey goes, winning organizations follow.

Mahomes helping put Chiefs on the map. It is easy to like him (or hate him for others? after getting beat in playoffs. Howdy Buffalo!) Not to belittle the huge Taylor Swift draw from dating Travis last season. I was talking with my old man (he is a 49ers fan living in Reno, NV) during the super Bowl as we watched together and talked via cell phone all game and he said... it sure seems like just about every commercial has Mahomes in it. Gotta say, being a former 49er fan before moving to KC 11 years ago, it is great to see my favorite Chiefs play my 2nd favorite 49er's in the SB. Also, fun that KC keeps winning and I can talk a bit of trash to family and friends who are 49ers fans. Mahomes is special... even more so with Andy Reid leading the way!
Nick, I'll send you a new ring light!
it's great for the league... going from an evil empire to a new evil empire
people thought the Patriots were never gonna lose in the playoffs after their 3rd chip
I don't know ... maybe call a holding penalty against them once in a while 😉
Andy Reid deserves the most credit I think Patrick would be great without him but if you switched Mahommes with Burrow or Allen etc. they would be just as great and would have just as many super bowls
Why does Colin have the lead singer of Nickelback as his cohort
I still believe when the time comes and they're in the playoffs they will all subconsciously realize the last thing they want to do is do interviews about that parade
Call me crazy but I don’t think the NFL has any problems with a Mid Western/Mid American…whatever you wanna call it, team and fan base as a powerhouse…just spit ballin…
Harry S. Truman once said, "You can accomplish anything in life so long as you don't care who gets the credit." Sounds like Andy Reid has learned the same lesson.
Good content bad editing every choppy cuts one even felt like you were cutting something said out but the conversations were good
The departure of Dorsey was drama. You said there was no drama and then you mentioned Dorsey. Dorsey was the drama.
Andy was a power guy and learned that lesson the hard way with the Eagles. The last few years of his Eagles reign were rife with bad drafts and coaching hires.
Andy nor Kelce were Hall of Famers before Mahomes became their QB.
Great points, i think its going to take teams that can essentially go all in on the roster with a qb on a rookie deal the knock off the chiefs dynasty ala 49ers. The only weakness the chiefs have is mahomes contract, but his closest competitors in the afc now have paid there qb too.. maybe the texans or colts during the 2025 season or a team like the browns thats truely committed to the run and willing to pass 20 times in a playoff game
Quite possibly but the only one set up for that is Stroud and the Texans.
Green Bay only have 1 more year before they have to pay big on Jordan Love and lose other players as a result.
Bears might be a contender if Caleb comes in and shows out as ready to lead and they draft well this year and next.
The Chiefs just lost a lockdown corner and that definitely hurts the defense!!
Not the first time, and certainly won't be the last, just like everyone thought they would fall apart without Tyreek :P

I will say dynasty’s are super boring so really hoping the Chiefs one is over. Heres to hoping.
Get your sound and lightning fixed, would ya?
The No Fun would be **fine** with a dynasty on I-95 or LA.
The fact that Mahomes and Co. operate out of small market like KC is the NFL's nightmare. LOTS less money for League revenue with this scenario.
But there is one thing we can all be thankful for. Just one.
At least it's not eff'ing Dallas.
They act like it was all Mahomes vs the other team's QB... the Chiefs defense held Baltimore to 10 pts. When they were down 10-6 in super bowl and offense slumping, on a punt return the ball got muffed hitting the 9ers player's leg and Chiefs recover with great field position. When Mahomes threw that INT in the super bowl and gave godo field position to SF, the Chiefs defense pushed SF out of field goal range. It was Chris Jones making a last second heroic push to knock the OL into Allen as he threw causing it to come up short for what would've been a TD to possibly win. It was the kicker missing the FG that ended the game.
If any of these things happen to Brady, ya'll say "Brady was saved/carried" lmao
How quickly you forget. The reason Reid failed in Philly was because he wanted and was given personnel control. You guys are hysterical.
I think the narrative on LeBron should change to he is the most unguardable basketball player in history.
Personally, I think it’s scripted like pro wrestling. This is why you see blatant errors like ez dropped passes, bad calls by refs, etc. Like Ric Flair said, not fake, choreographed. I think the reason why is Mahomes is mixed race, taking the torch from all American white boy Tom Brady. Witness all the race stuff in the Super Bowl. You’d think AA was 60% of the population. Put it this way, if the NFL is real, it would be about the only thing in this country that isn’t a fake scam. Politics, education system, health care, finance, banking, insurance, the legal system….
KC will win many superbowls. They have a great defense, too. At the end, Spags shut down Miami, Buffalo and Baltimore on the road and the niners. The nfl also likes the Taylor Swift attention. The refs love KC. Who is going to beat them.
This was a reenactment of my Bears fandom to a T. 👏🏼
Greatest in any sport is line for Mahomes
y'all better call Chris Carter for this show
Why no offensive lines holding calls on Chiefs in last few Super Bowls Nick?
It wasn't called on either side, watch SF's O-line, a bunch were missed on both sides, always is...
The Chiefs being good means that other teams need to build good teams that can get to and have a chance to win the SB instead of just building teams good enough to get butts in seats. Seems like some owners just want butts in seats instead of winning teams.
What broke up the Dallas dynasty ? That won't happen in K.C. No Egos !
They list these teams in AFC who can't beat the Cheifs. One team they did not mention who has very good QB is Houston
I'm very curious to see how CJ Stroud's second year goes. If he continues his magic from last year, or even shows signs of improvement, I'll be inclined to agree with you. If he struggles through a decent chunk of the season, less so. We'll see whether he's more of a Mac Jones or a Jordan Love.
Cj will have a much tougher schedule next year lets see how he handles the 1st place schedule but it is possible
Patrick Mahomes' worst season was better than CJ first season. Patrick was an offside penalty away from beating Brady and going to the Superbowl his first year starting. CJ has a lot to prove to still
Nick must be one of the happiest men in the world now.
So the league fixing super bowls makes them a DYNASTY?? 😂😅
Nick always finds a way to include daddy Lebron in every conversation. Listen to how he tries to spin Lebrons worst failure into a good thing somehow
Why you care?
It’s all about egos.. each one does their job.. Clark, to veach to reid everyone works.. Andy has a good staff… got rid of Sutton.. got spags.. plus us going so late each season.. it’s hard for anyone to grab anyone off our staff.. afc championship 6 years in a row..
The reason the Chiefs will likely have a slow start is because they use second and third string players a LOT in the first half the season to keep their best players from getting injured. They are fine with a few losses to do that. Last season they were very healthy going into the playoffs by design. Guys like Skyy Moore took the most snaps of any WR and totally sucked but just kept playing. Like cannon fodder.
From the top of the office down to the water-boys, KS tis a team.

How many more years is Andy Reid going to continue coaching for, that's a huge factor. As good as Mahomes, Kelce (aging), Chris Jones and a few others are they'll most likely have a new coaching in the next few years. Will be interesting. yeah just like people said Chiefs were only good cause they had Tyreek, it's human nature, people hate winners, there are hundreds of missed calls from the preseason to the SB in every game there are a lot on both sides (both teams) tons of missed holding calls on both sides, and all kinds of penalties but people target the team they want to make look bad and try to only point them out when it happens across the entire NFL and has for a long time...
I'd wager the chiefs are going to blow some teams out next year... (Like 40+ Pts)
