All Great Games Played
My top 5 are as follows:
The GameCube will always be number 1 favorite console as it is like my best friend. I Carry a lot of soft feelings for this system. Long after this console was discontinued & no more games were being released for it , it remained my main console. I'm even a little sentimental typing this out . No harm feelings for being only an honorable mention. :)
Number 2 will be the Sega Saturn. This console was the first console that really got me into retro gaming. I remember picking it up wondering what is a Sega Saturn? One of the best consoles I ever picked up. Night Warriors, Sega Rally & Die Hard Arcade man what a way to introduce me to a console I never heard of before.
Number 3 The Sega Dreamcast: This console still blows my mind away. I usually have to keep it away from my fat PS2 because if I turn my back I know these two systems will get into a massive fight but man this console is amazing. So many fun too notch arcade hits & the amount of homebrew games still supporting the console makes it a great console for old & new fans.
Number 4 The GBA. Specifically the GBA SP. This console I never fully appreciated back then but man I love this console nowadays. I just drove down to a city about 3½ hours away from me to see a doctor this morning so I had to stay at a hotel & man this console was a great time waster after supper before going to bed. Long battery life , every game has that pick up & play nature it was fantastic. While some GBA games have gone up in price I still find a ton for really cheap prices & if I'm not on the go I play them off my gb player for my GC.
Number 5 is going to surprise many people but I'm going to say my Atari Jaguar. When I picked up this console I mostly picked it as a joke to see how bad this console was for myself after seeing countless CZcams videos bashing on the thing, I thought it would be fun to bash it to & well that's not what happened. In fact I didn't think the console was as bad as people were saying. I actually kind of felt bad for the console when I did research on the console & it's story. It's not a console I would say is better than it's competition like the Genesis or SNES but to call it the worst console ever doesn't make sense.
If you read this far, thank you for reading. :)
1 Genesis 2 Saturn 3 Dreamcast 4 Xbox 360 5 SNES
1 saturn 2 dreamcast 3 ps2 4 genesis/32x 5 xbox360
Master System, Mega Drive, Super Nintendo, Sega Saturn and Playstation 1
Dude. I can’t stop watching your videos. Love the format you have going on.. the wholesomeness in your speech.. the view of the tv with single light in your hand and controller.. random joke shots thrown in… a great mix. Keep up the awesome work🤘🏻🙌🏻
Thank you!
I like Watching his videos cuz it takes me to the golden days of youtube and ppl had their own unique way of presenting their content on a specific topic.
Same!
And to that I would say your videos are super entertaining and genuinely delightful. Thank you for the consistently great content RB!
Thank you Christopher!
@@RetroBirdGaming ❤
This channel is just pure gaming joy distilled. Thanks for being you Retro Bird! 🍌
❤
Love the liar liar reference for which one is better. I could hear “write it…write it or I’ll break it off”
5. Super Nintendo
4. PS2
3.gamecube
2. Sega Saturn
1. N64
Very good list. I'd swap Saturn out for PS1 personally.
@@Vulpas understandable. PS1 was also great 👍
Don't think I've ever seen N64 and Saturn as somebody's top two. Very cool!
@@RetroBirdGaming thanks dude 😎
I enjoyed the Liar Liar skit, your videos are always a good time!
Ah, that Liar Liar reference was the icing on the cake for this vid. You are a man of culture.
1. Awesome Trinitron, check. 2. Great positive enthusiastic family friendly humor, check. 3. Awesome production value, check
Thank you!
I love your videos, I don't know how You haven't reached 100k subscribers yet, I wanna see your youtube's 100k award, greetings from El Salvador!!!
Thank you and greetings to you as well my friend!
I liked the 16 bit war between Sega & Nintendo.
Back in the 90s I used to like better the SNES. As years passed I started to appreciate the Genesis, although I still feel their games are harder & unforgiving, but you gotta have both the SNES & Genesis.
My other 3 all time favorite consoles are the PS1, PS2 & NES. An honorable mention is the Sega Dreamcast, it was a great console ahead of its time.
You always have great topics to talk about. Best Regards.
I feel you on discovering things as an adult. Growing up there was no way I could afford import games, or even know which ones were good most of the time. So it wasn't until I was grown up with a job that I could discover what the Saturn & PC Engine really had to offer. Those two are both locks for my top 5 these days. I was a SNES kid growing up, and fought many a fierce schoolyard battle against House Genesis. Magazines like EGM gave me the impression that the Genesis was way weaker. But coming back to it, I see the SNES' limitations, and that sound chip has not aged well. While the Genesis' processor allowed for more animation frames (the lack of which so often annoyed me with the SNES and PlayStation 1) and way less slowdown, so I think it's aged better. Just a shame about the awful colour display. I can't do a top 5 because then I'd have to choose between the Neo Geo and the Dreamcast, but I'm not a CZcamsr so I don't have to.
Love hearing about experiences like these where somebody's perspective changes over time :)
such an interesting perspective, for me the limited color display is perhaps my favorite aspect of the genesis- i feel like it constrained devs to work with bolder color palettes, and made them stand out.
@@supernoob17 In the hands of a talented artist who understood how to effectively contrast and balance colour, it was fine, like in the Sonic titles. I'm sure a lot of Genesis kids didn't even notice. But so many titles - especially multiplatform games - were held back by dithering and drab, dim colour schemes. I also hold it responsible for a degree of the Sega CD's struggles; they went with FMV as its differentiating selling point, but it all ended up looking like oatmeal due to the huge colour demands of real life photography. I have no idea why they didn't do anything about the palette in that device given how much engineering and expense they did put into the hardware. What really underlines it to me is how the PC Engine's colour display lets it punch so highly above its weight; PCE devs accomplished so much expression and vibrancy through shading even when short on horsepower or ROM space.
@@philmason9653 yeah for sure i just mean when i think of the standout titles for the genesis, i think they're defined by bold palates and i think they would have looked different on snes or pce. stuff like comix zone, gunstar heroes, snatcher, beyond oasis, the shining force games look visually distinct from anything on the other 16 bit consoles and i think the color limitations contributed to that. i 100% agree about fmv and multiplat games though, although idk about that leading to the downfall of the segacd considering all the other consoles that leaned into fmv games as a primary selling point failed as hard as the sega cd
You know someone creates great content on youtube when youre in a store and while buying some bananas you think about retrogaming, thanks for good content bird !
The 'Liar Liar' skit was really funny, love your videos!!
Thanks and glad you caught the reference :)
My Top 5 Favorite Consoles:
5. Playstation 2
4. Sega Genesis
3. Nintendo Switch
2. Nintendo Entertainment System
1. Super Nintendo Entertainment System
I don't own switch.
Im curious what games you like on it?
@@kakacech Super mario odyssey, the legend of zelda: breath of the wild, super mario bros wonder, mario kart 8 deluxe, sonic mania plus, mega man 11, ect.
Best channel I’ve found since Happy Console Gammmer! Thanks Bird!
Mischief Makers! It's always a good day when that game gets attention
My top 5 in no particular order, PS1 PS2 PS3, N64 & GameCube.
It's me donkey Kong entering the comments needing a reply from retro bird
@Vesper F do you know what happe. To banana hoard

@@RetroBirdGaming DANG IT
I liked what he had to say.
2:30 is reason #409 that I'm glad I found this channel. 🤣
I loved the Liar Liar skit you did 🤣🤣
I think my top 5 non handhelds would be Sega Genesis, SNES, PS1, Saturn, PS2... but I could definitely swap some of those around depending on how I'm feeling. Handhelds would be a little more Nintendo biased (because that just aligns with how much I've played/owned them): 3DS, GBA, DS, Gameboy. Never really had any other handhelds other than a Gameboy micro and a Nomad (which I haven't spent playing much actually). Can't really give either of those two rankings as I've already listed them with GBA and Genesis 😁
That throwback photo!!! You legend hahahah
Not considering backwards compatibility:
SNES
Genesis
Xbox 360 (A recent pick-up for me & games are dirt cheap!)
Dreamcast (I picked up a TON of stuff on closeout Typing of the Dead is a blast!)
Atari 2600 ( Pure nostalgia pick & Homebrew community is very active)
Great Video!
Loved the Atari. It's simple enough I can play with my little kids and they get it right away. 1 stick, 1 button. We like Frogs and Flies.
Mine are as follows:
5. Original Xbox
4. Xbox 360
3. Genesis
2. PS1
1. Super Nintendo
The top 3 are so close they're basically interchangeable.
How can the Genesis be close when the SNES has Zelda 3, FF6, Mario Kart, SF2 (a year earlier), Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Turtles in Time, better MK2, Contra 3, ActRaiser, Secret of Mana and on and on the list goes!
@@madspunky it's called "an opinion" and just because you don't share it doesn't mean you have to take personal offense. Maybe this person hates RPG's. My top 5 is different, but I can accept other other people's opinions.
@@danbauer3669 Thanks for your reply! I don't feel offended. My favorite console would be the Dual Screen, but I can't expect other folks to care about Days of Ruin and Etrian Odyssey as much as I do.
However, the gap in library quality between the Genesis and Super Nintendo I find to be significant and I'd love to hear why other folks think differently. Perhaps I've missed out on a classic Sega game!
@@madspunky I didn't get a Genesis until I was 19. When I was a kid I stupidly took a side in the "console wars" but there's lots of interesting games and no good reason to ignore them. My friend brought over a game called Starflight that is more Star Trek than any Star Trek game. And D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun is another cool game that I didn't know about until last year.
I don't disagree with your list of SNES games at all, but there's always something else. Currently I have about 80 SNES games and 55 Genesis games and there is lots to like in both libraries. Maybe you just aren't as familiar with Genesis.
@@danbauer3669 Oohh, why did you choose a side? I played plenty of both consoles at friends and finally made a choice in 1993, mostly because of SF2, FF4, and Zelda 3.
Thanks to emulation I've been catching up through the years. I tried out Starflight a bit and loved talking with the aliens, but felt I was spending too much time gathering resources. Lovely to see how the game influenced Mass Effect!
I love old school D&D inspired games like Ultima and Wizardry, so I should check out Eternal Sun! Listed!
I looked into my spreadsheets and I've beaten 48 Genesis games and 72 SNES games, so yeah, I'm more familiar with the latter.
Currently going through Phantasy Star 2 but it's a slog, I'm not sure if I'll make it to the end : P
I enjoyed your commentary about discovering games on old consoles as an adult - definitely a huge part of what makes them feel fresh even today!
Love your content bro ☺️☺️ Im a HUGE fan thank you for sharing your life with us 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it.
@@RetroBirdGaming 🎮👾🕹🤝🏼☺️🤙🏻 Of course mi amigo
Your content always gives me a case of the “feel goods”. Much ❤my man.
I was more of a Nintendo guy growing up, but I also love Sega consoles, and even have love for the master system. My top 5 consoles are similar to your choices. 1. NES 2. SNES 3. Genesis 4. PlayStation 5. Wii. I still play all of these regularly.
Man new retro bird video right when i get off work, life is good 😁
Also, i started collecting bread bag clips because of you lmao
You start sniffin' round my neck o' the woods for bread bag clips and you'll have a scuffle on your hands my friend ;)
@@RetroBirdGaming you're even wholesome when you try to be intimidating. That's great, man!
Oh, and by the way... Great video! I liked how your appreciation for the PS1 is growing. Makes me wish I had the time and money to explore its huge library.
In no order: Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx, NES and SNES. Another great video! :)
Nice. What's your fav Sega Master system game?
I second the Master System question. I get some really interesting answers on that one.
So many great SMS games! My favorite though (for any system) is Space Harrier. Also love Phantasy Star, R-Type, Power Strike, Golvellius, Double Dragon, Rastan...the list just goes on and on! :)
@@realguitarthur You forgot Wonder Boy 1-3.
@@tonyp9313 More great games indeed.
Dude, I just found your channel and I feel like I’m binging every video you’ve ever made. Really enjoy the humor, content, and unwavering banana cameos. 10/10. Also, I need a Sega Saturn …. thanks for giving me something to obsess over for a few weeks by being a creep at every Goodwill in a 40 mile radius until i get one.
It's great to have you on the channel and I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos! Saturns are tough to find. I actually DID find one at a Goodwill once though. It was $10 but that was back in like 2012.
Your content is pure gold. Always puts a smile on my face Never stop being yourself!
My top five is Gamecube, SNES, PS2, Switch & Wii. I have so many fond memories of me and my brother playing Gamecube as little kids. Chao Garden, Delfino Plaza, F-Zero, Double Dash, TTYD, Metroid Prime, SSX3, Pikmin.... gosh.. NFS Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground 1 & 2 we spent weeks together on that game.. and I haven't even mentioned Tony Hawks Underground yet =P It's my childhood in a bottle. Also.. flying the helicopter in 007 Nightfire multiplayer is GOLD!! =D
Oh my goodness did my friend and I ever have a thing with the chao garden hahah.
Love your channel and love your choices. The greatest thing about retro gaming is how many fantastic games I enjoy going back to.
my first console was the NES in 1989 when i was 4. With that in mind, here is my list:
1]PC Gaming 1995-2000 (I feel like this counts as a console generation, you can comfortably run everything from that era on a PC from 1998).
2] PSX
3/4] Super Genesitendo
5] Gameboy. the original if i had to pick only one library but the GBA can play original and color games so that's my preference.
The way you talk about 16-bit games gets me pumped. I’m working my way through the 8-but classics first but I already have my Analogue Super Nt ready for when the time comes.
I know what you mean about the Cube, it was weird when it was out. But I think gamers played it more than they even realize. It has almost no shovelware and the releases were coming one after another in all kinds of genres. Luigi's Mansion, Rogue 2, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Windwaker, Skies, RE4, Mario Kart, Super Smash, Pikmin, F-zero... It goes on and on. So when you step back and reflect it's like dang there were a ton of amazing games on that system. That in turn makes you realize how much you actually played that system back in the day without even realizing it. It was a bizarre console for sure.
Retro bird, your content is so good! I am eating bananas! But seriously, since I found your channel I can’t help but smile when I see a new video. Keep up the great work.
1. NES
2. ATARI VCS / 2600
3 SEGA MEGADRIVE / GENESIS
4. SUPER NINTENDO
5. NEO GEO
I have to say that was a truly delightful video I greatly enjoyed that. I needed good old fashion humor, it made me laugh. Thank you.
I have the same issue with Number 1. I got both consoles at once on my 10th birthday. They were both my favourite things of all time. One good for fun, child like games and the other for the more gritty, violent games.
Youre a really funny actor. The "Super Genesitendo" sketch was perfect! :D
Love this channel ❤
yay I can appreciate you putting the 64 even on this list. I figured it wasnt going to be in your top 5 but hot damn it was. I love the 64 it still the best when it comes to couch co op.
Love my retro computers the most and all are 8 bit. There are several more but if I could only choose 5:
#1 ZX Spectrum
#2 BBC Micro
#3 C64
#4 Apple IIe
#5 Atari XL/XE
Never heard of those except Atari.
For computers for me:
Commodore 64(so many hours with friends playing all the Goldbox games & messing around on BBS boards)
Linux mint ( Steam has really helped gaming on Linux)
DOS
Windows
Coleco ADAM (Holy crap this was a dud but I had it and mostly gamed on it)
I personally think the 1st couple systems one grows up with will always have a special place in the heart. My 1st is nes as I started gaming near its last faze in 1990+ then onto my 2nd is genesis
You had me at number 5. You have all my respect
Not counting the Switch with the ability to play both retro and classics, I actually have the _exact_ same list as RB.
I grew up during the fourth and fifth gen of game consoles. There was just something amazing about gaming in the 90's. The SNES and Genesis shared many titles, but they equally had a solid amount of exclusives! The Saturn, PS1 and N64 started the 3D trend and each had some truly excellent exclusive games as well! I didn't get a chance to play many games or consoles as a kid, but the ones I did will forever be etched into my childhood memories!
Terrific video!
1. SNES
2. PS
3. NES
4. XB360
5. Atari 2600
Honorable mention: Nintendo Switch
I'm really showing my age... My dad used to play Atari and NES with me and my brother so that got me into gaming.
I used to love Atari, then the nes & Sega Master system came out which was a huge leap from games being high scores to games having a start & ending.
1. Sega Genesis
2. Super NES
3. Atari 7800
4. 3DO
5. NES
The 3DO?
That's very, very difficult. Maybe something like this. .
5. Gameboy Advance
4. PlayStation 2
3. SNES
2. GameCube
1. PlayStation
The PS2 and the GBA being some of my earliest gaming experiences, I am very bias towards those. In fact, the same PS2 I had since a child is still kickin' with me today .
That's my exact same list, haha. But it is in a different order (SNES > GBA > PS1 > PS2 > GC).
My first console as a kid in the early 90's was NES, but nostalgia aside there's not much on there for me anymore except Mario 3 and Kirby.
@@Vulpas The Dreamcast and GC are like neck and neck. If the Dreamcast had more games I liked it would be even better.
The GC's library is really strong
Awesome video! With someone who has finished over 4,500 games, I can say I've played most of the games on console libraries, have 42 Complete libraries, and have finished many of them. For me, these below are my Top 5.
SNES
NES
Genesis
XBOX
N64
Awesome personality, man, and I'd say my top five would be very similar!
No matter what it’s your list and it’s always fun to watch different than mine list. I do appreciate your ability to simultaneously like Sega and Nintendo.
I totally agree with you on the Megadrive/snes - I first had the megadrive when I was younger and defended it all the time against the snes, eventually I realised that I needed both systems and enjoyed the best of both worlds growing up, and it's the same now!
Oh man, the return of the bread bag clip collection always tickles me. My favorite Retro Bird guest star, right up there with Nanners.
For me, SNES, N64, PlayStation, Game Boy, and the Nintendo Switch, in no order haha.
The dead nanner under the couch traumatized me.
Awesome list! Was definitely surprised by the sega saturn inclusion and place!
I guessed 3/5. I thought for sure you would put the N64 1st. I am glad you mentioned that you also thought that. You keep talking about that console along with the memories you had with your cousin. Anyways These are my 5 top consoles.
1. Sega Genesis
2. Nes
3. Snes
4. PS1
5. Sega Master System.
I would agree with you on the number one tie. Hard to pick between them. Great video as always 👍
I had a genesis as a kid. I don’t know what happened to it, but when I found one recently, it quickly became my favorite console. So many sweet games I had no idea about, especially Japanese imports
5. Switch
4. N64
3. NES
2. Sega Genesis
1. SNES
Honorable Mentions: PS2 and GameCube
Cool vid and a very good Top 5. I think your top 3, Genesis/SNES, Saturn is solid, and I'd definitely keep that on my list. So, looking at number 5, I'm going to go w/the Dreamcast. It just has so many classics across a bunch of genres and remains one of my favorite consoles to this day. Number 4 is going to the OG Xbox, mainly b/c in a lot of ways it felt like a Dreamcast 2 w/all the great Sega games it received. Add in other classics like Ninja Gaiden Black, KOTOR, and of course Halo...well it's just hard not to have a great time. I liked your NGC honorable mention, but I would add the PS2 there as well since it just had so much to play.
I can connect with most of what RB says. You can't have all the consoles at one time as a kid and even as a young adult sometimes. So, going back and discovering consoles you never had is a great thing. For me, in the last 10 or so years, I've been able to explore the Saturn, N64, and Snes. Saturn I never had when it was new, so what a joy it's been.
I thought N64 was too kiddish as a 20 year old when that was current so I never bothered with it then. Lastly, with Snes, I was a Genesis gamer and didn't really get into it much then. Now, all 3 of these consoles would be in my top 5 if I made one. North American games, imports, been discovering many games on these 3. Thanks for the video.
Awesome video bud - we had very similar experiences both as kids and adults. SO MANY GAMES that I missed! I still have a hard time with 16 bit games but I have started to see as an adult that the n64 is not the end all be all I grew up thinking it was but man do I have some HEAVY nostalgia goggles for that thing for the same reasons you do. More options is not actually better, the PS1 has a million games for it but the n64 has focused quality titles that everyone enjoyed. The n64 like In N Out - the menu is simple but everything is amazing and it's a unique honest pure experience of fast food we all love.
The Acorn Archimedes would be number one through five best console for me. When I was a kid I had five different colored versions of it just so I could play five different versions of Zarch at the same time. I even had a Mad Professer Mariarti T Shirt and dressed up like him for Halloween. The other kids would laugh and throw gummy erasers at me, but I knew they were just jealous. Seriously underrated system.
I got a couple of my friends into your content recently and since then we cant stop making inside jokes and nanners references when possible. Awesome content and great humor 😊. (Oh, but you still only get 3 continues, much hate - Battletoads 😂)
Hey, that's really cool to hear! Thank you for sharing and I'm glad you're all enjoying the videos.
I can't really say which console are my favorites yet, but as far as the ones I'm most nostalgic for would be the PS1, PS2, N64, GameCube and the Xbox 360 they we're a big part of my childhood and teen years 😁
I thought I was alone! I named my OG Xbox Solomon Grunty :D
It grunts whenever its first powered on, so we always greet it with "good morning Solomon Grunty!"
My top 5 appeals to nostalgia, and to the fact that Ive never own many consoles, but I have played some borrowed by friends for long periods of time during my adulthood. So here it is:
5. Atari 2600
4. N64
3. Playstation 2
2. Super Nintendo
1. NES
Love your channel! greetings from Ecuador!
Comedy gold dude 😝
I gotta show this to my kids
Thank you. Thinking about families watching my videos together is pretty meaningful to me.
Game Boy Pocket with the Missing Battery Cover for life! When I got a Super Game Boy I would always remove that little door covering the mystery connector on the bottom of my Super Nintendo just to replicate the experience.
Your videos are so good.
My top 4 is 1. Genesis/SNES(tie) 3. NES 4. Saturn.
Looking to add a PC Engine soon, and I already know I am going to love it!
The noise that came out of me when I saw the introduce yourself skit.
Edit: the whole video is gold
My number 1 for sure has the be the Nintendo DS. I used to play my DS lite basically every day during my middle school years. Out of all of my consoles, the DS is the one that I have the biggest collection of games for. Great portability and battery life, innovative play style (I found it fun to use the touch screen and microphone for many games), so many fun games including my favorite Pokemon game HeartGold/SoulSilver, and the DS lite had backwards compatibility with GBA games too.
Number 2/3 I think would have to be a toss up between PS2 and Switch, reason being both have a lot of great games. I have a bit more history with the PS2 and the PS2 has backwards compatibility with PS1 games, but the Switch is quickly becoming a favorite of mine even after having only played it for less than a year at this point (I know, I'm a bit late to the party lol). Love that it can play games that would've only been able to run on home consoles or PCs in previous generations in portable handheld mode too.
My number 4 is the Wii. I know it's not the conventional gamer's favorite, but I personally found it a lot of fun especially to play multiplayer with friends or family members in high school. Or to just mess around sometimes making funny looking Mii characters. The motion controls give it a unique charm. Also I think the Super Mario Galaxy games are some of the greatest 3D Mario games.
Finally, my number 5 is the 3DS. It's got many of the same things going for it as the original DS, plus its own set of games. But really it's just not higher up because at this point I still haven't spent a lot of time playing it. I played it a bit when I got one in high school but haven't gone back to it recently. But I definitely think I should because there's definitely some games for it that look like a lot of fun that I've been missing out on. Plus my DS lite now has a super scratched up screen so if I want to play my original DS games, I would have to play them on the 3DS now anyway.
4:22 Me, who grew up on none of those despite growing up on the 64: "Sweats nervously"
8:54 lmfao!!
I wish I had a friend like you man! Your channel is awesome keep going! My top 5 would be : N64,Ps1,Dreamcast Ps2, Neo geo. I also love Super Nintendo and have lots of Sega collections.
Thank you! I'm really glad to hear you're liking the channel :)
I love your obsession with bananas... always makes me laugh that naner running joke😊
The tie between the two consoles and your favorite console at the end, omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was laughing hard and repeated it a few times.
1:40 that boss’s swinging Johnson is hilarious 😆 I know, it’s a “tail”…. Suuuure
Okay so this is a funny one for you. My favorite games are Final Fantasy VII, Castlevania SOTN, Super Metroid and Zelda Link to the Past but neither the PS or SNES is on my list (though I do play both and think they're excellent). My list goes Genesis, Genesis, Genesis, Turbo 16 then Genesis. So you don't think I'm just a Genesis fan boy (though I am) I will explain. I'm almost entirely an emulator at this point so the Genesis Mini is my top console. My number 2 is a modded Genesis Flashback 2019 that has most of the rest of the Genesis lineup along with the SMS and a good chunk of the Sega CD library. Number 3 is my Mega Retron HD (aka HDMI Genesis) to play new Genesis games like Xeno Crisis and Demons of Asteborg. Number 4 is the Turbo 16 mini which is just an awesome, awesome console and last is a Genesis on a stick which I take with me anytime I travel. It's a simple HDMI stick with two wireless Genesis controllers and it works suprisingly well for a cheap Amazon pickup.
Hey, you can never have enough Genesis!
@@RetroBirdGaming Indeed! Speaking of, have you tried any of the new Genesis games? I mentioned a few above and there are games like Life on Mars which just came out and looks like Metroid for Genesis as well as ZPF which should be out fairly soon and looks like a Lords of Thunder type of shooter and many other really cool titles.
I love your content!!!!!
My number one is, and will always be the Sega Saturn. That consoles gave me some of my favourite gaming experiences ever.
Number 2 would be the Sega Genesis. Although the NES was the first console I owned, and the one that really got me into gaming, my love for games was solidified when I got a Genesis and it plays host to a massive portion of my favourite games.
Number 3 would be the PS4. Bloodborne is my favourite game ever, so I need not say more 😄
Number 4 is probably the NES for getting me into games, and the first console that I spent hours playing. However I find the NES the most difficult console to go back to and play now (apart from the Atari 2600).
Number 5 is the PS2. It was the console that got me back into gaming after taking an extended break after my Saturn died on me. It had a fantastic library and I was hooked on games such as Ratchet & Clank.
Two systems that I would like to give an honourable mention to are not consoles, but they were my introduction to gaming. Those systems being the BBC Micro model B and the Commodore 64. Besides introducing me to gaming they also got me into programming as a kid, which ended up becoming my career. I would spend hours typing up game code from old computing magazines, and then fiddling around to see how I can change it, and how those changes affect the game. Good times!
My Top 5: The Wii even my mom bought one! Now that is saying something! 4: Nintendo 64 The start of a beautiful Mario Kart Format!
3: GB Advance SP - Plug in Power no more batteries! 2: Original Game Boy I was a kid & the early games were made for kids!
Gaming Power in your hand...To boldly go where no kid has gone before! Number one The Super Nintendo...love that 16 bit action!
Honorable Mention: my original NES still hooked up in my living room even out lasted my N64, so take that Number 4 on my list!!!
Dude I live in Guffey Colorado, so I like the GameCube Name! 👍🏻
3:15-3:26 That part of the track reminds me of cortex castle from crash team racing :P
I loved the gamecube sound
Great Top 5.
My top 10 consoles(including handhelds while excluding systems of ps4 era and beyond):
10. Atari 2600 - fun and short arcade style games for those who want to game but don’t have a lot of time for it. Primitive yet also very fun.
9. Nintendo Entertainment System - Similar to Atari for the most part with more advanced graphics and sound, but home to some of the first True RPG series like Zelda and Final Fantasy.
8. TIE: Game Boy/Game Boy Color - Similar to an NES, but portable. Lots of NES Inspired titles, but was the origin of the Pokémon craze.
7. TIE: Sega Genesis/Master system - Mostly arcade games, but a few examples of rpg games, more fun than an NES due to being the first true 16 bit system.
6. TIE: Super Nintendo/Gameboy Advance - Plenty Powerful, Excellent Orchestral FM Sound Chip, Lots of Fun Games and Most Games on SNES were graphically superior to Genesis. Also Zelda Link to the Past Exists. Also Super gameboy exists which was our first ability to play gameboy in color on the big screen. Game Boy Advance had SNES style graphics with a 32 bit processor as a handheld along with excellent sound. Also Pokémon and backwards compatibility with GB and GBC games.
5. Tie PS1/PS2 - the first 3d games that looked somewhat real. Ace combat, Persona and the Harry Potter tie in games are great.
4. N64/GameCube - Graphics are better than PS1, but the blurring is sort of a turn off. Zelda and Star Wars are all good options here. GameCube rules the roost in terms of clear graphics and the ability to play all gameboy series titles on the big screen through the gameboy player peripheral. Lots of good Star Wars and Pokémon titles. Also good star fox titles, though Zelda is still good.
3. Nintendo DS - Excellent handheld for an on the go gamer. Lots of games including Pokémon and Zelda along with obscure hidden gems like fossil fighters and some Yu gi oh games.
2. TIE: Xbox/Xbox360 Lots of great hits between both consoles Excellent graphics for the time. Fable, Tales of Series, Eternal Sonata, Red Dead Redemption, the Battlestations series.
1. Wii - Although not as Graphically capable as it’s peers it holds a special place in my heart for introducing me to Zelda, the beginning entries to the super Mario galaxy series, Okami and the best versions of Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix and Harry Potter and the half blood prince on the market due to being made for motion input for spells.
5. Super Nintendo
4. Gameboy
3. Nintendo 64
2. Sega Genesis
1. Playstation 2
Thanks for the video! I appreciate your dorky comedy. I genuinely laugh.
So, hmmm. Let me approach this in my own way, and I'll come up with as many as I can.
No Xboxes are on the list. Never owned one. The OG Xbox was cool when it got modded. A friend had one, but, more on modding later.
PlayStation is on the list, because I had one as a kid and it was just so kick ass. We upgraded from a NES. The bootup sound is so iconic and etched into my brain!
I also owned a GameCube! Hehe. I liked it a lot, had about 15 games. My step brother stole it from me and gave it to his friend. Sad. Either way, it goes on the list!
I really enjoyed the N64, but never owned one. Like you, many people had them, I remember playing GoldenEye hunched over a small TV. And in about 7th/8th grade, every day after school I'd go over to my neighborhood friend Jacob's house and we'd play Perfect Dark. It was great collecting medals and such, playing with bots, etc. Other friends had them too, but I don't think it'd go on the list.
I also had a GameBoy Color, but I only played Pokemon Red on it. It was fun, and I collected the cards, but never bought another game for it. Nope!
The Switch definitely goes on the list. I have modded mine and I bought a second one just in case the first dies. I love that thing. I actually collect games for it, by golly! I believe it will be one of the last consoles to have physical media, and I also think it'll be one of the last consoles that are not "always online".
My grandfather had a SNES at his house. It was super fun playing it when I went over there. I used to play Super Mario World, he had the strategy guide for it. Other games too, like Vegas Stakes. Around the same time I'd go to random family friends' places (read: parents' friends) and they might have a genesis or a Sega Saturn, but they never stuck with me. *Annht!* No list for you!
I did own a Dreamcast late into its lifecycle, it was great, and I got to buy all the games and accessories for $1-5!!! I remember one time the disk laser wouldn't read games properly, and I cracked that bad boy open and adjusted the laser (properly)... fixed it B) still, doesn't go on the list. Not enough nostalgia power.
I am a PC head through and through. Played computer games for most of my days. I dodged the WoW craze, unfortunately (or, fortunately, however you look at it). There's just generally more you can do with a computer.
So my history is responsible for my list, and only recently (~3 years) have I wanted to "kick back on the couch with a controller".
In summary:
- PlayStation
- GameCube
- Nintendo Switch
It's time to make a Retrobird game
I don’t have a top five console list since a lot of games are iterative of one another, so my favorite would have to be one machine with the largest library of games we all played. Game genres, brands and styles are pretty fluid so my one favorite to this point is definitely the GBA, which modernized fully playable and fully enjoyable the 2D games _in the most discreet form factor._ I also like all of the ambition a lot of developers threw at that the machine! Looking at it then and now, the GBA is still pretty exciting! I love the Switch, it’s the N64 I never truly appreciated (a cartridge based system front loaded with best in class FPS’s and even more Zelda!) but the GBA really had many, many _perfected_ versions of 2D games. It was the perfect swan song for mainstream pixel based games that you could buy off the store shelf. Capcom, Konami, Sega, Namco, they’ve all washed their hands of 2D games. Since development cycles for big budget 3D games have become much longer with less wiggle room for experimentation we don’t really know what is out there in terms of what is GOAT! I didn’t like Breath of the Wild, but Tears of the Kingdom has loads of potential! Experimentation is what makes for good games, one company stumbles another one sees a hidden gem and brings that to market. It happens but experimentation is not enough to satisfy shareholders (or those guys in cages lining the walls hovering over the pit towards the end of Doom Eternal!)
Great Stuff!
I'd love to see a video where you pick your favorite game(s) on each console. Would be a good video plus we would all probably discover a few hidden gems!
I've actually already done that. You can watch it here: czcams.com/video/JYcVO9Jj3IA/video.html
Sega Genesis will always be my number 1. Snes is literally right behind it.
Freaking love the 16bit days 😍
Yea bro genesis rules still puting out new games check out tanzer ultracore,, life on mars or that new one real bout, the snes doesn’t have new games really!!!!
This video made me go out and buy a Saturn. Do you have any game recommendations for the console? I got a good deal on the Japanese Symphony of the Night, and I’m looking to expand my library. I have an American console, with a game shark that essentially makes it region free. Happy to be on your lawn
Oh wow. I hope you enjoy the console! The Japanese versions of "Panzer Dragoon" and "Panzer Dragoon Zwei" are pretty cheap (don't get the Japanese version of "Panzer Dragoon Saga" unless you know Japanese though). The Japanese version of Street Fighter Zero 2 is pretty cheap and an awesome game. Japanese version of Sega Rally is another good affordable one. The Virtua Cop games are great if you pick up a light gun (but still fun without it). Nights into Dreams is also much cheaper if you get the Japanese version (I do recommend the 3D Analog Controller to play that one though). Obviously, there are a lot of other good more expensive games... but those are some of the cheaper good games. Japanese versions of games are your friend and so am I! Hope you have fun with the Saturn :)
