A while back this channel was mostly dedicated to covering “console variants”. Different colors and models of consoles.
Overtime I started to fall out of this, mostly because, well, time. Was taking too long to make these vids, but I feel it’s worth going back to.
So today I’m doing the original Nintendo 3DS.
I will follow this up later with a 2DS, New 3DS, and all that other fun stuff, but to give each console more than just a passing glance, this is the compromise I decided to make. - Hry

I do miss the portable consoles market because now everything is trying to be hybrid.
Not just that, but nothing fits in your pockets anymore. It’s why I still bring my dsi and ps vita around with me. It takes up no space for the entertainment it provides.
@@nottucks this could just be because I wear slacks instead of jeans, but my Switch will actually fit in my pocket with the Joy Cons still attached. Not that I'd be confident enough for that, I put it in a hard case and carry that in my backpack.
The word you're looking for to describe the special edition designs added to pre-existing colours is probably "tampo" (as in tampography, pad printing) as that's what is used on diecast cars (Hot Wheels). Except in the rare case where it literally is a sticker.

I picked up the Aqua Blue 3DS at launch and it really did look and feel so premium at the time.
The paint details are called tampographs. They're basically stamped on like... Stamps.

6:51 This was actually going to be my first 3ds since it's my favorite color. That was until the Pokemon XY editions came out and went with that instead. I don't regret my decision since that limited edition looks incredible, but a part of me wishes I went with the purple even if it would've had less battery than the XL.
I knew of Heroes of Ruin. I played the demo online with others, and the full game was released on my birthday that year.

I remember the stock images of the E3 2010 3DS with the coloured thumbsticks were still used by stores and media outlets well after the 3DS launch. This confused me when I got my 3DS.
I ended up with the blue launch model, but I wish I had gotten the purple one.
Probably not in this vid but i had the link between worlds xl and the monster hunter new xl, Nintendo really got fancy with them at the end
I really like the original one, especially in white.
Which now that I think of it, red buttons and a highlights on a white system could've worked for a 30th anniversary edition to celebrate the Famicom.

I’m not sure if it’s just the exposure of the video, but my launch 3DS (which I still play) is a much darker red than shown.
I attempted to buy all the original 3ds color variations. Now seeing the green and orange one, the collection is not complete.
In regards to the glossy finishes being prone to finger prints, I don't really feel like that's a big issue? I checked my metallic red example and the finger prints are barely visible, maybe even because of the flake effect.

i won one of the thousand mario 3ds' when i was a kid lol. i regret my mum chucking out the box and me not taking care of the console. it works fine but it has the usual marks from aging and i used it a lot 😂

3DS has my favourite console design. They just look (and feel) good. They feel solid and quaint. I wish it wasnt stuck with a bunch of abandoned software, it makes it a bit depressing to use. You are just stuck with non-functional apps on your home screen.

My favorite variants are the New 2DS ones. They're all, like, textured? The Dragon Quest Slime and Minecraft Creeper live in my brain rent-free. Looking again, there are also amazing ones based on the Pokeball, Hylian Shield, and Animal Crossing. To be honest, the Animal Crossing New 2DS might be the best-looking video game system that I've ever seen (especially since the Animal Crossing 3DS XL is so ugly. It's like a pop tart, lol)...
Also this model was first released in late 2017 and all of the special colors were probably released around 2018, so it was basically Nintendo's hedge for if the Switch flopped. The 3DS in 2017-2019 was an interesting console. Games like Fire Emblem Warriors, Sushi Striker, and Captain Toad simultaneously came out on Switch and 3DS. There were also some simply top notch releases in that era, including Metroid: Samus Returns and Fire Emblem Echoes. Plus, around then, we had the long-awaited arrival of SNES and Pokemon on virtual console. If you were still playing 3DS in 2018, it was arguably some of the best years that the console ever had? Weird...
Ahh, no XL (or "New"). I still use my A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL, sad it's not a "New" one, but that gold on top, black on bottom and triforces on each side are too appealing to me to change it out.

For the base model 3DS specifically, Europe actually got more options than America did for one. But yes, in general, the US market tends to get more because gaming is just more prevalent here despite the US and the EU having roughly similar populations.

Do enjoy these videos, but I must admit I miss the parts where you gave your personal opinions on them. I understand that grading everyone becomes annoying, but even a simple "this one is good because of x" or "not a fan of this because of y". Brakes up the video and makes it feel less like a list just being read.
