  • That's right, no more wires for moto vlogging!
After a recent failure using GoPro and the Media Mod set up while trying to film a video only to realize the audio was completely ruined after the fact, I had to find another way to get video and audio with out syncing the two in post.
I quickly came upon the Osmo Action 4 Camera and the Mic2 platform. I had no experience with either. This seemed like a win for me. A smaller/lighter camera with the same image quality of recent GoPro models (and cheaper) and a wireless Mic system that I simply attached in my helmet with a magnet. I was so in!!
So this video is my first ride with the system focusing on out the box image quality and audio sound. I need to mention that I didn't do any manual dial in with either the camera or Mic, just straight from the box to riding. I'll fine tune both later.
I feel like the image quality was great recording in 1080 at 30 FPS although I felt the video was tad under exposed. The Mic worked just fine but there was definite clipping, especially in the beginning of use. I've grown accustomed to speaking loudly with the GoPro setup and it appears that I didn't need to do that with the DJI Mic2.
Definitely need a stronger magnet inside the helmet for the Mic to attach to although I had no problems with the Mic slipping after I superglued the magnet strip inside the helmet.
Overall, very satisfied and once I dial everything in this will be the obvious way to roll while riding!
Hope you found this video helpful!

I’ve had the DJI Mic 2 for a few months not cause it works so well with either my mirrorless camera, or even my phone! I’ve watched a couple of these videos on this setup tho and just ordered myself an action 4.
I’ll also vouch for Insta360’s cameras as well if you were ever wondering about them. Been running those for a couple of years and zero issues with any glitches, overheating, or footage loss.
I think it’s great to see all these other action cam companies step up and be even better then the existing lead action cam brand has been for years!

Turn the gain down on the mic. That'll help with distortion.

Yes, that audio was distorted and also he should enable high pass filter on.

    ... 2:05 ... Use a light, short string for a safety tether .
That would have sucked to lose the magnet to the helmet (and mic) or mic to the magnet.
Thanks for the video(s). Very informative.
Also, THANK YOU for no background music (noise).

Good video. The DJI setup is definitely a step toward simplification and quality too! You made mention of it in the video around the 21 minute mark and I agree, reduce your gain for the microphone input and your audio quality should improve. Maybe start at -6. You can always bring the level back up in post if it's not high enough. You might also experiment with noise cancelling to see if you can reduce background sounds in favor of your voice.

@@precipiceofgrindif you use noise cancelling, the chances are, you will lose the exhaust sound, making the video too sterile. We ride motorcycles to feel the wind, so when watching, we need the full experience. Nice video. I am still using an Osmo Action 3 with DJI mic adaptor and trying different mics. DJI’s lav mic is still too hot, distorting and clipping. I will eventually go for the OA4 and Mic 2, but need Adsense to pay out a bit more 😅. All the best.

To fix the mic falling out I just superglued the magnet it comes with to the inside of the helmet and the magnet's pull is way stronger than the magnetic tape

I really enjoyed this since I was at my local store looking at a Hero to purchase and definitely will consider buying this. I would have loved seeing how you have this set up on your helmet or on the motorcycle. I also will look forward to comments regarding the setup up your using as your looking into the camera and sitting. Is it a specific device, stick tripod etc. Great video for me. Thanks

Hi, I would like to use the DJI Mic 2 for motovlogging, but I have a question. Do I just pair the transmitter (mic) with my Insta360 X4, and that's it, or do I also need to connect the DJI receiver to the X4? I read that you get worse audio quality without the receiver. Also, with the transmitter inside the helmet, would it be better to connect a lavalier mic to it? Thanks

  • @matthewpateofficial

Just know if you set up 32 bit float to record while recording with action 4 you should be able to recover any volume peaking if needed.

The mic works with the camera quick capture function?

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  Před 28 dny +1

If the mic is already on it will connect automatically with the camera once the camera is turned on. I usually keep the mic on and turn the camera off when I'm not filming for short periods.

@@precipiceofgrind So if I leave the mic on I can use the quick capture how many times I want and the takes will have the audio ok? Thanks for the answer, I'm leaving gopros and don't know much about Dji, with the GoPro I use this feature a lot. This setup looks perfect for motovloggers even in the rain!
