It really sucks that the good people that just don't want their data to be collected and privacy have to suffer because bad people abuse the system.
That would imply one simply wants to glow out of need, but looking at many situations of needless data collection, it would seem just the glowing alone is reason enough.
Who wouldn't want to glow after all? It looks so cool.
It's like showing a kid how to operate a garden hose, expecting them to only use one when the plants need watering, and to put it away immediately after they're done.
@@Redjard The hegg are you on about?
@@sajanator3 I've seen plenty of instances where police lobbies for collection of data, where it's either clear before, or becomes clear afterwards, that it doesn't help with catching any criminals at all. I have not a single time seen them then not using that data, or even rolling back the regulation. Instead they just churn out scandals of how they misused that data to spy on their wives lovers or whatever.
Now if they clearly don't care on the usefulness of that data on actual criminal investigations, wouldn't that mean we'd be here regardless of if there are criminals abusing the systems or not?
What I mean is good people dont loose privacy because bad people exist, the loose privacy because glowing corrupts, and absolute glowing corrupts absolutely. The bad people are just an excuse, because everything continues unchanged even without them.
In other words, if good people are loosing privacy, dont blame bad people, blame the system
This data collection normally doesn't even help them catch bad guys. Even the NSA said something along those lines. It's just an excuse they use to spy
🎶Fed-san with your glow so bright, won’t you leave my privacy alone tonight?🎶

The CIA definitely has a secret alien quantum computer :/
DWave
The amount of money spent of military and the agencies, I wouldn't be surprised to hear they have had working quantum computer for a couple decades.
In any case I find it odd how little quantum computer resisting public key cryptography has evolved.
And a fusion reactor too or some form of real clean energy.
Some of us who have studied physics don't take quantum computing as a credible threat. Specifically, we expect the difficulty of keeping the quantum computer from crashing during the job of cracking a public key to be exponential with key length.
If I might indulge in a conspiracy theory: the NSA could be hyping quantum computing to sell a quantum resistant algorithm for which they have a back door.

Kenny, you should do a video on the digital drivers license. Its currently in the works in Utah and other states. It will include your health records, vaccine records, financial reports, credit scores, travel records, taxes, vehicle registration, spending, voting, sex offender status, licenses and permits of all kinds, dietary preferences, outstanding parking fines and fees, background checks, rewards programs, and social credit scoring.

Session seems like a gem, the whole thing is decentralized works on a blockchain and works almost like tor.
Also no stupid phone number is required.
Arguably is a bit slow if you are sending large files like gifs and vids. But the privacy you get makes it up for you. Also on android app(dont know about ios) you cant take screenshots.
@Sodium Chloride privacy and anonymity are different
Not being able to take screenshots in an app is just a request by the app to the OS. Any rooted phone user can just ignore it
signal without a phone number would be pretty pogchamp
that aint gonna happen sadly. I heard that (In Signal forum) username will come but when you creating account it still needs your phone number just like Telegram.
I personally use Session. It's completely private. It was forked from Signal but the developers are super transparent about what they're doing and there's almost no Signal source code left in it. Session is getting voice and video chat capability fairly soon as the developers managed to do a demonstration of it.
Where. I have not yet seen any demonstration. Please show me

Molly use the same servers as Signal. So if servers compromised both go down.
The new anti-privacy law that passed in australia makes all companies obliged to collect more data from users and provide them to the government even if they're not already doing so if requested by the secret services, disclosing this information is also punishable by 10 years in prison, given that australia is a part of the 5 eyes, this could easily have an effect on the rest of the world as well
so essentially, any company, even one developing open source software, could potentially be *forced* to release fake source code and actually implement some spying features in the binary (but that would allow people to compile the source code at least) or maybe even worse, this would make it impossible for open source software to exist since sharing it would be disclosing the secret information and punishable by 10 years of prison, in other words we should nuke australia
australia went from prison to country and back to prison...
@@DMSBrian24 Please nuke us
I love how you say "unless they have some alien supercomputer" about cracking encryption. I'm glad you don't push that "the government backdoored all encrption" nonsense.
I'd be careful with elliptic curve cryptography using NSA recommended magic number parameters, which we can't be sure where those specific numbers came from.
But what if they DO have a alien supercomputer?
A government doesn't backdoor encryption probably but force the service to implement in backdoor in their service/protocol to get data decrypted for them. The EU for example solves this encryption problem now by scanning messages client-side and automatically forward to their services if necessary.
So you don't need to backdoor the servers if you can backdoor all clients essentially. ^^'
@@TheJackiMonster Another reason open source and protocols are important. Harder to slip in a backdoor to the client if you can inspect code and behavior.
@@hanelyp1 Technically that's true but in the end you still have weak spots in open protocols which can be abused. Most services are still centralized and most of them require server trust to make the protocol be trusted. So in theory a malicious or compromised server still breaks most protocols even if they are open and this weakness might be known.
The reason for not abandoning such services immediately is quite easy. Decentralized services are much more complicated to implement and to harden against different kind of attacks. So it's not really like there are perfect alternatives for most centralized services out there to fit the gap of privacy needs and convenience... at least not yet.

Seems sus to me that certain cpu models can only be used to mine a cryptocurrency especially since they might have a backdoor in that model especially since Intel chips have a second chip that you can't access
Most of the master node and proof of stake blockchain do that to get the best performance
All cpu's built in the last 10-15 years have a form of the me, even amd, it's not just an intel thing.
@@__Brandon__ BTC Is an open ledger, why would they do that when there is currencies like XMR that actively prevent tracking of transactions and user wallets
@@aungoo3563 As best I can make out, proof of stake doesn't need crazy high performance, unlike proof of work where the higher the hash rate you can support the more competitive you can be.
@@hanelyp1 I mean they need to have same hardware because whole blockchain is validate by handful of master nodes. They don't need hash power around the globe they only need high performance nodes. For example, there are thousands of miners in POW but for POS blockchain only have like 100 Masternodes.Same high performance hardware can achieve higher tps like 50k tps in solona. Great vid Kenny! When are you uploading that guide to convincing your friends and family to switch to encrypted messaging via blackmail and extortion? Thanks in advance.
Love seeing coverage of stuff like this. Signal (and its ilk) are too often shibboleth and too rarely medium. Demystifying the latest-and-not-necessarily-greatest crypto projects and protocols is basically a huge favor to mankind, especially if it's reasonably accurate and potentially entertaining, as, to be clear, this was :)
well this was good I failed to really understand how signal worked but this made things much more clear.

Hey mental outlaw, really love your videos man. I was wondering if you can do a video about using FOSS bios firmwares like libreboot and coreboot (or other alternatives i dont know yet). Im not sure if it's still possible to use FOSS Firmware bios or not, so can you please do a video about them, that would be really appreciated 🙂.

KYC regulation won't happen
Signal just makes the links embed really fancy for the transactions, you still need a wallet/mobilecoin account
similar to something like Zelle, Zelle only needs your bank login to help you make transactions and doesn't need KYC regulation because the banks do the actual transaction and Zelle is a middleman
Is Molly-Foss still considered hardened?
Hey im a dev and i want to use signal to create a fully encrypted social media platform. is that possible using signals source code? could we repurpose it and use the encryption technology in a new UI that supports basic social media functions? posts, likes, comments, messages, profiles... i am serious about this - nothing better than having source code to work with that works. i want to make an open source platform based on signal. to me - the hard part of establishing a successful encryption method is figured out. it SHOULD be possible to take their source code and repackage it to do social media -style functions.
Molly-FOSS sounds like a cool drug
The triumphant return of Monero-chan.
I just wish Signal would give us usernames ASAP. They have been saying they would for quite awhile now. Being linked to a phone number is pretty bad.
I literally have to keep rewinding to understand ur simple language explanation for 2 year olds
Guess im old now!
The fact that the forks are compatible is great
Only Molly and signal are compatible.
Matrix would technically be compatible too. But, not because it’s a fork. Matrix is it’s own separate type of software.
You can use matrix to talk to everybody on every app.
Instead of having to have a signal accojnt to talk to your signal friends. A wickr app to talk to your wickr friends. A telegram app to talk to your telegram friends, and so on and so forth. You can use matrix to connect to any app.
I love how molly is hardened, but sadly it doesn't support fingerprint unlock + you need a long passphrase, so at the end it's just a headache for most users
If only it allow users to use biometric while retaining all other features
Biometric is a vulnerability
@@Sarah-iv5tu how?

I'd love to try one without a phone number requirement, or that doesn't require an externally-run, closed-source server for voice and video calls
Session will soon get real-time voice and video calls through onion, something very exciting
there is also Briar a good privacy messaging app
Yes and no. The mobile-coin might be sold on other exchanges and you could spend it on signal.
In that scenario, signal does not require any KYC since you are not making any purchases from fiat->crypto, but just spending crypto.
This is where the benefits of Signal's non-prifot status come in. They need to make enough money to pay people to upkeep the product, but an overall profit motive does not exist explicitly where it could motivate Signal to start abandoning privacy protection.
Please make a video on setting up your own Matrix and/or XMPP server! Any centralized messaging is just wack
Please talk about the tox protocol
It would defeat the purpose of signal in the first place, nah ppl at Signal aren't dumb and if it were to happen im sure they'd just drop the crypto thing altogether or make it completely separate from signal at least

The whole point of it is to minimise that kinda stuff
You don't specify which of these requires a phonennumber. I don't think hashed phonenumbers are difficult at all to decrypt. All the numbers are known, they can obtain all phonenumbers from providers and just makes hashes of every single one. The glowies certainly have the resources to do this and with the hashes from signal provided to them they might figure out what hashing standard and salt was used, if not they can just run the most known hashing protocols and salts until they get matches.
If signal allows groups chats that is another potential vulnerability.
glowstick party time in the data room
signal also never released an fdroid version because moxie thinks releasing on fdroid is a security risk (lol)
They should’ve integrated with XMR, it actually matches their whole privacy model and is one of the best cryptos and doesn’t need some weird Intel chip to mine
