I never heard of them...But I've put this album on (with CZcams) 20 minutes ago and I'm really digging it. I love how it gets harsh and jagged at times...but remains "jammy" with a constant rhythm
I love these guys. Truly a progressive bands. They evolve from album to album. Here they go from stoner to Krautrock in one epic jam like piece of music. Check out their live albums “Roadwork” Vol. 1-5. Heavy but they are really going places.
Missed this one. I love Motorpsycho!
Another great album from them. I really like their latest albums.
Thanks for the review Pete. I’ll be sure to check this one out!
I've been a fan of MP since early 90s. You are correct, they ARE all over the place. "Timothy's Monster" is by far my favorite album. If you don't know it, you should check it out. I often tell my friends that MP is a mix of Pink Floyd meets Sonic Youth. Thank you for doing them justice here.
I like these guys , so I will definitely be exploring this one .
Thanks for the recommendation !
I love this album. For me is a great 2022 album of the year contender...
Yep. That last tune is my favorite epic this year...so far. My favorite Motorpsycho album since The Death Defying Unicorn.
The previous 2 albums, The All Is One & Kingdom of Oblivion, were very good so I'm looking forward to hearing AA.
Pete, how about doing a programme on Norwegian jazz-rock bands? Hedvig Mollestad Trio, Bushman's Revenge, Nils Petter Molvaer, Terje Rypdal etc. etc.
Terje has some great stuff (Crime Scene, If Mountains Could Sing, Skywards)...
Well, I'd have to be fairly knowledgable to do that, and sadly, other than Terje, I'm just not.
@@seaoftranquilityprog I'd volunteer to join you (!) but I'm only a keen fan, rather than an aficionado. I did see both Hedvig Mollestad Trio and Bushman's Revenge live in London fairly recently, awesome stuff.
@@seaoftranquilityprog Pete, have you heard this from Terje Rypdal? It's his most recent album. czcams.com/video/VohRtf79iw0/video.html
A haunting pot pouri or melange of sounds replete with Fripp like guitars. After second listening this is a grower. Some of the strangest sounds in 2022 but worth persisting with. Dim the lights and enter Scandi noir.
Another good one from one of my Favorites.
In my top3 of 2022 albums. Mona Lisa / Azrael is the best track of the year. That dichotomy between soft and melodic and heavy and chaotic parts is excellent. And then, near the end, both motives merges nicely into nice finale.
👍💯 thank you
Great job! I subtitled my review of it in August, "Norway's psych prog titans continue their creative streak with a simultaneously compact and sprawling epic." In 2015 they were inducted into Rockheim’s Hall of Fame in their hometown of Trondheim, like the R&R HOF, eligible 25 years after first release. If you focus by decade, their discography is a bit less intimidating. The 2010s start strong with Heavy Metal Fruit (2010) and The Death Defying Unicorn (2012). There's just seven albums from that decade, and since you already know The Tower and The Crucible, it wouldn't take long until you were ready to rank the albums of at least their past 12 years!

Hey guys! For those of you who is interested in this band, I made this video for a nonNorwegian friend not on Facebook.
I live in Trondheim, so this band is more or less a houseband, here.
Love the Fantastic Four shirt.
Idon't know that band.I have to check out...
Are you familiar with Norwegian band Jordsjø ? If not, please do check 'm .
The best retro prog band with Scandinavian flavour.
Great band. Been following them since the early '90s.
Very good prog band with lotsa output, I got Ancient Astronauts in August. I liked 3 tracks of the 4 (I skipped
"The Flower Of Awareness"). My 27th release of theirs (including a bunch of EP's). I think this band's very consistent in the quality of their records, even their heavier stuff stays accessible - they know how to integrate that heaviness into their overall more psychedelic sound. For example on "Mona Lisa-Azrael" where heavy passages are mixed with a gentle-sounding prog intro & as Pete noted there are also stoner rock elements as well, plus electronic effects. Maybe just a notch below their best albums (Black Hole - Blank Canvas, Heavy Metal Fruit, It's A Love Cult, The All Is One, The Tower, Timothy's Monster) but very good. You can always count on this band to put out something that's at least interesting
Yep, that's been my experience with the three or four of their albums I've explored. I find myself on the fence about this band. Occasionally interesting, but I don't find myself drawn back to them very often. Have to see if I can find this one to listen to before I pull the trigger.
@@dangerdolls Search for "Listening to Motorpsycho: Ancient Astronauts Part 1" on YT, that's some of the album (first two tracks). The full album's also posted to YT (no commentary)
A few new releases I recently got:
Eddie Mulder/Signature - good neo-prog from Poland, very melodic/accessible & on the mellow side. Colin Bass (Camel) is featured - if you like Camel you might like this one. Mulder was also in bands Flamborough Head & Leap Day
Big Big Train/Summer Shall Not Fade - new live album from this excellent prog band. I already had some of these tracks in concert so there wasn't that much really new to me, but a solid album
Billy Cobham/Drum 'n' Voice Vol. 5 - #5 in the series from the drum legend. Features Narada Michael Walden, Mike Stern, Brian Auger. 4 great tracks
Arkells/Blink Twice - ALT rock band, I actually own 8 of their records, This one isn't their best (Campfire Chords, High Noon) but not bad. About equal to Jackson Square/Michigan Left/Morning Report for me
Intelligent Music Project/VII: Unconditioned - Simon Phillips on drums & co-producer. You guessed it, there are 6 other/earlier albums. This is more of a 'supergoup collective' than an actual band. Ronnie Romero (Rainbow/Schenker) on vocals. 3 good tracks, kinda AOR meets prog. Some good guitars
