- August 10, 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the merger between the Illinois Central and Gulf, Mobile & Ohio railroads to form the Illinois Central Gulf.
I grew up watching ICG as a child then Paducah Louisville it's great to have models of both
Very interesting. Thank you. I have truly enjoyed your videos. Keep up the good work.
In 1968, I hired out as a brakeman on the ICRR, Indianapolis Division. All we run were high-nose GP-9's with an occasional GP-7. Speed limit was 40 but we rarely went that fast. After the merger, it was very strange to see Alco's on IC rails since IC had all EMD's.
Cheers for the update...
Hoping you have time for trains 🚂‼️
I wish the Ingals S2 would have made a bigger presence.
A place you'd love to visit is the Chatham, IL depot. It is an authentic Chicago & Alton depot, with plenty of C&A, GM&O, ICG, SP, and even IT and C&IM railroad memorabilia preserved, including the original GM&O "The Alton Route" marble floor decoration that was in the Springfield, IL depot.
Thank you! I will have to try to check it out!
@ck7813 I'm a member there and a good friend of the owner, Nick. I can arrange a time and date so you can tour the depot. It is an amazing place for GM&O, IT, and C&IM enthusiasts. Most of the collection is centered around the Alton Route, the C&A and GM&O route from St. Louis to Chicago, with other tid bits of the line such as the ICG merger, the CMNW and SP era.
@@MatthewTheRailfanner Thanks, Matthew. Send me an email, it is my CZcams username at y hoo (you can figure it out) :)
Wow man I legit thought you were dead.. Glad to see you back 👍
Nah, just working a lot!
What was funny was the GM&O ordered 4 GP-38’s before the merger. EMD called and asked if they wanted them painted in ICG. Glen Brock president of the GM&O said he would not take receipt of them if they were. They arrived after the merger in GM&O red and white.
Thanks, Bill. I appreciate you sharing this story. These are the types of stories and facts that need to be preserved because 50 years from now, we will not remember these small details.
😊
Hunter Harrison joined IC in 1989, and started to sell off the non profitable routes
