I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented with suggestions & corrections for improvement! I will be modifying (slightly) some pieces of this stove but I am certainly wiser for having read your comments. Thanks again 🙏🏼
Let us know if u fixed the connecter piece for the chimney.... My spark arrestor gets clogged within a few hrs.... That's the downfall of mine... Soon as it clogged... Smoke just pours out.... congratulations on tying me knot too!!!
I’ll definitely do an update video when I get it corrected… I love the stove except for that one little piece 😂
Good advice for young (or new) campers to be thoughtful, careful and practice.
Keep your fire hot. And keep your damper open and spark arrestor clean. Great video I have the same stove and don’t use the spark arrestor at all with no problem. I have the mini peak xl and wish I had got the mega horn. Thanks for sharing
That spark arrestor will ruin everything real fast ...did a backyard gear test 3 weeks ago ......50° rated sleep bags and a clog stove made it a rough night real quick
You did a fine job. I really think the wood is green and not burning fast enough. Get some dry oak and maple and leave the pipe as is. Betting you will see a differance
Keep your damper open more. I had the same thing happen with my first stove. Open it up more (or all the way in this case) and it will burn off all the drip too. That birch is actually great wood. Where it’s bad in your pipe…it was too cold. You got a great setup. I have the same stove. You won’t have a problem once you learn that balance. Too hot (open) is always better than too cold. Enjoy! Keep it up.
Appreciate the advice. Will keep at it! Thanks 🙏🏼
@shieldsdigi that was great how you encouraged him to keep on going.
@@sugamamajackson6171 my pleasure. Got to! There’s a learning curve, but the rewards are worth it.
Thanks for sharing
I really appreciated this video and your message. Know your skills, abilities and gear.
Great video. No shame in being anxious about a new setup. Smart move in my opinion. How are you liking the tent? I'm loving the Megahorn, warms up quick but super comfy for a solo tent. Thanks for sharing.
I really love the tent! The Megahorn III has tons of space and is pretty easy to setup. Would like to use it as a two-person on a trip. I think it would be close quarters for 2 people plus winter gear but I think it would work. Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment 🙏🏼
Obviously a smart decision to camp close an test the gear out it was almost like a setup because sure enough an emergency popped up but that's how it happens so good value to this story here for sure for the young ones
I have a Luxe tent and the same stove. I'll bet almost everyone dislikes the connector. Join the club. I had a less severe but similar problem and found my problem was all related to the spark arrestor becoming too clogged on the second night, and dampening too much. Once I solved that it burned hot, no creosote build up (minor inside the stovepipe after 3 nights.), And all was well. Would be careful re-engineering the part though. You may even get direct smoke leakage into the tent if the stovepipe were on the inside. I don't know, but I do know the linkage is the greatest weakness of my setup.
Thanks for the feedback and advice. Still considering ways to make that connection better. I’d like to put some type of clamp on it but the connector piece would need to be a good bit stronger for that.
@@ExploreYourLand I did put a hose clamp on the top for some stability. And I insert the damper and
My brother gave me a stove for my tent , I have the Teton sport Mesa canvas tent , I haven’t used the stove yet because I have to buy some more pipe for it , the way my tent is I have to go out through the side of the tent instead of the top so I have to buy some elbows and another 12 inch straight pipe for it but I did notice my pipe fits inside of each other instead of sliding on like yours does which now I know is a good thing. Yea I can’t wait to start using it and learn all about it , now another thing is do I need the pipe to go above the height of my tent to get a good air flow ? And my pipe is only 3 inch pipe , is that large enough for good proper air flow, all questions I have to explore in my hot tent journey. Well we live and learn and that is part of the journey, I often camp in my yard and try new equipment myself, no shame in that as long as your happy ….will be looking forward to your next video . I would post a pic of my tent set up but CZcams doesn’t allow pics in the comments, do you have a Facebook page ? I have one , SAK Swiss Army knife fans , if you would like to join
I’d love to see a pic… I am on Facebook. Will look you up 👍🏼

Easy fix. Go buy a plumbers clamp (or sometimes called a mechanical strap) with a butterfly nut to easily tighten (and loosen when disassembling). Slip that on the chimney where the bottom of chimney meets the protruding stove collar. Tighten plumbers clamp to get a tight seal. Next, very important to use DRY wood/kindling and get the fire nice and HOT and build a coal base. Keep chimney damper and front door damper OPEN while initially igniting and building fire. Use a temp gauge if necessary to maintain proper temps. From there, you should be good to go. Chimney is designed to be affixed OUTSIDE of stove collar on purpose to prevent smoke escaping. Do not try to reverse this system. I have the same tent for fall hunting.
Awesome advice! Thank you 🙏🏼
When you are on a hike, you often do not have the opportunity to choose which firewood to use - oak or birch, dry or wet. The furnace should burn any wood. The problem is in the connection of the pipe and the body of the stove itself. This is an axiom: the pipe or its links should be inserted into the link below. If this is not the case, then this is the wrong design of the stove. You can't buy such a thing at all. Remember: the upper elbow of the pipe should be inserted into the lower one, and not vice versa!
I'll have a video up Sunday AM on how to fix your pipe to avoid the creosote issue. Also I recommend you watch this video from another channel, using manufactured hardwood, it does work well!
