  • Sony Xperia 1: Studio Portrait Test
    We test how well the Sony Xperia 1 holds up in a studio portrait scenario. In the video, we compare the Xperia 1 with the iPhone, an Android OnePlus and a Nikon Z6. We also make a bunch of prints to see how well the camera holds up in a real-world environment.

    We have reached a point where the consumer does not want to be natural but wants to be flattered and amazed, and that Samsung and Huawei have understood.

    Wish you had tested the Xperia 1 under regular indoor lighting instead of with studio lighting. I had very bad result when taking photos indoor, the white balance is completely wrong (to yellowish) and overly exposed when it detects a face which switched to soft snap mode. My previous iPhone X completely blow the Xperia 1 away..

    • @MikeHagen
      @MikeHagen  Před 4 lety +1

      That's a good point Herman. Ambient light might produce different results. I've been doing lots of studio work with my mobile phones lately, so I wanted to understand how well they performed in that environment.

    • @dzulk9
      @dzulk9 Před 4 lety

      Sorry to interrupt here but regular indoor lighting are often hard to get colors correct due to the fact that different types of lighting used. One might use fluorescent but either warmer or daylight balanced type... So there are various factors at one time. But a good camera will definitely has a good automatic white balance... Which is the one you're looking for. CRI takes in account too.

    For portrait on the Xperia I would not use the "bokeh mode". I get better results - including bokeh - without this feature just using the main lens. Was all photos shot in Auto or Manual? Eye AF works well.

    I always wondered why its good that in portrait-mode blur out the background that much that its almost looks like the object you, in this case the girl, looks cut into the photo. While on the Sony its looks (at least to me) not that aggressiv. It looks like the background and the object are in the same photo, while you in sense clearly can see that its almost 2 photos in the iPhone and Nikkon. Sure its a cool effect and all, but never really understood why anyone really would like this effect?

    • @MikeHagen
      @MikeHagen  Před 4 lety +3

      That's a good point. The Sony is very natural with their portrait mode effect.

    • @nilascocaguimbal1882
      @nilascocaguimbal1882 Před 4 lety

      I, for one, think that portrait photography does this much like macros. I mean, you only do this to put the subject into greater emphasis. It emulates the human eye perspective where in, if you focus unto something, your peripheral vision gets blurry. That is why people tends to favor the blurry backgroud. It brings out what ever they want people to focus into. As for Xperia, I think it's giving off a point and shoot camera impression that it makes it's portrait as subtle as possible.

    • @Evolionz
      @Evolionz Před 4 lety

      IPhone 11 has added a "gold reflector" to looks warmer (not the real scene), Nikon Z6 is awesome it is natural and doesn't feel like Artificial.

    Hi. Has Sony actually fixed the most annoying issues of the camera (w/ the latest update) such as:
    1. Overheating when recording 1080p/60 or 4K/30?
    2. Slow autofocus or lack thereof?
    3. Poor dynamic range? (Both cameras)
    4. Somewhat poor low light photos?
    5. Zoom/telephoto lens quality is so-so?
    And has it also improved the battery life too?
