- OC - Ortley Beach - 2072 Bay Blvd. - Shed Fire with Extension to a Structure - Structure Fire
Around 4:50 PM County 911 got a call for a reported shed fire at 2072 Bay Blvd in Ortley Beach, Toms River. Seaside Heights 4401 was first due on arrival they had a fully involved shed fire with extension to an exposure 3 story wood frame structure. They quickly pulled two 1.3/4 lines and used tank water to make a knock on the fire and keep it from spreading into the 3 story exposure. The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation by the Toms River Fire Prevention.

From the stop of the rig to ready for water was 20 seconds, water flowing in just under a minute. What a difference good training and showing up with a plan of attack makes.
Good work, your community should be proud! 🇺🇸

2:56 - Handbrake on.
3:49 - Water on fire.
53 seconds from arrival to water on fire - One of the best responses from US firefighters I've seen.
Backwater rural stations in Germany are posting videos with HALF that time though, so don't let up on the training.
Same here from the Netherlands.
Exterior attack is a hell of a lot easier to get water on the fire quickly, most US fire companies especially big cities on the east coast like NYC, fight fire from the inside out.
Any channel names would be awesome. From Germany that is
@@thesimulatorguy4248 @BrandweerLunteren is a good Dutch channel to follow, lot of the same practices as Germany.
Here where I am in Australia we aim for 30 seconds however our trucks are set up significantly differently to the US ones that allow that.
That was impressive! The truck had barely stopped and they were ready to fight the fire!
It’s called being reckless. The 1 second that move saved was completely worthless and it endangered his life and tells you all you need to know about this department. Our chief would have our heads. I work for a 400 member department in Texas. Also flowing an aerial master stream with firefighters inside the structure is a big no no.
@@Mark-em5zm we get it your perfect 🙄
They really just ignore you
Not to mention the TIME it took to actually get WATER to the nozzles. Just awful.
@@Mark-em5zm the truck wasn’t even moving all that fast even if he did injure himself it’s wasn’t going no where near fast enough to kill him. I see fire fighters do this all the time. But I’m glad I’ve the opportunity to chat with the firefighter of the year
Boys were running a line before the truck was even in park!! Love it!!! Also, that is the best mullet I have seen in ages.
I love it! Damn truck barely stopped, and 2 hand lines pulled! Water flowing extremely quick! Damn fine job!
Yeah, so they pulled 2 lined but for the whole fire they had Water flowing from ONE hose AFTER the fire was out they put the ladder line up :-(
That's an amazing response for a shed fire. Finally a US brigade that can respond quickly and put water to flames in a timely response. Hats off to them!
From a Dutch perspective, too many US firemen are busy doing nothing and their main weapon of attack are axes and crowbars, which definitely will not put out a fire. This vid is an example which proves the opposite. Job wel done!
@@peli71 Most videos that you see online from the US are large city departments that often use older practices or have crews that seem to not push themselves in their career. Most of the time you’ll find suburban or rural departments that show better actions.
I can show you plenty of US firefighters who hustle
czcams.com/video/w60XEuBo8Nw/video.html Jump to 5:45 ... Watch how fast they get water flowing. It's under 30 seconds from a 1 3/4 inch line
Stockton Fire, Seattle Fire, FDNY, Newark OH, and so on. Any of those cities have great firefighters
@@peli71 The US is different from the Dutch from a tactical perspective. The US puts a lot more resources on the scene and those firefighters you see standing around are either RIT or they're waiting to be rotated in once the other crews go into rehab. Just because someone does something differently doesn't make it better or worse. Speaking of Holland, the last time I was there I saw a house fire. It took the brigade more than 20 minutes to arrive. Once they arrived they did a great job putting the fire out, but it was pointless since the house was a complete loss
Just curious. Where are you from? I'm guessing either the UK or Australia - both countries have great fire services. I remember the US sent firefighters for the 2020 bush fires in Australia and when they got back I spoke to one of the firefighters who went there. He told how good the Australian fire services were and how cool and nice they were as well. I was in London one time and there was a firefighter from the LFB I was talking to and he was the nicest guy. I was walking one morning and came across a station and he was standing outside so I started a conversation with him. He brought me into the station and showed me their engines and equipment. It was really cool. I love how compact those engines are. Of course the London Fire Brigade is one of the top fire services in the world. They are outstanding. I remember watching the Grenfell Towers fire and saw the firefighters crying because of the tragedy. I felt so bad for them. LFB are truly a world class act and I can't say enough about them.
I see so many videos of departments taking forever to get water on the fire. Seaside Heights got a line stretched and hitting the fire quicker than I have seen in a long time. Great knockdown on tank water. Awesome job Seaside Heights. !!!
100% agree. Literally less than a minute from the time the truck stopped to the time water started flowing. They all displayed so much urgency in their response, as if it were their own home that was on fire.
indeed..their swiftnessand readiness saved that house from going fully ! great work!
It's about time. You are right!!
Do you have water on the brain?
They hooked from truck water not hydrant thats why
This is what a textbook Fire Attack looks like. All pre-arrival Fire Videos should look like this !!I. In way too many pre-arrival videos the Fire departments often take five, ten, and some Fifteen minutes to get water on the fire after the first Engine arrives while people are aimlessly walking around in turnout gear doing nothing !!!
Barry Broyles Retired Captain Baltimore City Fire Department
Again, Great Job Guys !!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video man but you dont have to keep repeating the size up over and over again. Keep up the good work.
I like him to keep repeating himself just in case people don’t realize the actual continuing size of the fire
@@TheCraig628 agreed, there is a volume button on most electronic devices that are very easy to operate for those that don't like the playback play.
I think his name is REPEAT LOL! GJ on video.
Really, I was saying the same thing. It's like STFU we have eyes.
Yeah, just keep quiet
Excellent knock down!!!!! No screwing around, pulled hose and went to work quick. Absolutely saved that house. Nice one Sea Side!!
Rosa hecha casa abajo 🚨🚨🚨🚔🚔
As a incident safety officer , these volunteers did a excellent job knocking down the fire, there were some things that were pointed out, but they are volunteers. No one got hurt. Everyone goes home. You don’t know who you are getting at any giving point when the alarm comes in. It’s always easy to Monday morning quarterback. Excellent job on first due getting water on the fire!
What do you mean by “ but they are volunteers “. Is fire different for career guys 😂
Being Paid or Volunteer has nothing to do with training and skill. My department was mixed and the Vols were every bit as good as the "Career" guys. They did the same training and were state certified to the same level. A good number went on to full time careers in full time departments. Including my own son.
Volunteer does not mean non professional.
I was fixing to say the same exact thing what difference does that mean I’m a volunteer I have the same amount of hours and training as a paid guy does I’m just tired of seeing a divide between paid and volunteer
@@nateminegar6974 look up Grant Pass rural fire department. Or worst volunteer fire department. I've have seen first hand unprofessional volunteer fire department in my state.
Outstanding work! Glad to see this department fully understands the concept that the only thing that’s ever going to make the situation better is by making the fire go away. Too many other FD’s take a ridiculously long time to get water on the fire, and this is also a great example of why EVERY single rig needs water on it, a ladder truck that carries zero water is useless, it’s just a paperweight.
Yep. Only one thing, let's stay in the truck until it's completely stopped.
Bingo! 100%!
Amen brother. Back in 99, I was officer of a snorkel we were returning from an AFA and stumbled across a working basement fire. Snorkel was a 91 Simon Duplex, only had 250 gal tank, but we quickly saved a total disaster
One of the techniques I found valuable when I was the driver of an engine/truck with a pump, was to pull the 'tank to pump' lever before we left the station. This allowed the pump to be primed by the time we arrived and charge the initial line without hesitation. Obviously, if you are in a cold climate, you need to use wisdom when you do this.
I disagree. There are plenty of pure trucks out there with no pump or tank, and they do the job just fine if your fleet and responses are structured properly.
Amazing at how quickly they had hoses out and water in about a minute. I am sure that is what saved as much of this house as it did. They did a great job.
They destroyed that apartment bldg.
New drinking game: every time he talks about a fully involved structure fire with exposure, take a shot....
I can't drink that much.
Or talks about the heat.
of water
Kudos to these fire fighters they acted quickly and didn't waste time .
The first truck got there just in time. A few more minutes and that exposure would have really got going. Great early arrival on filming.
Excellent coverage on this fire. I really appreciate the narrative you present. I am legally blind and miss some of the visual aspects but you’re description make a big difference for me. Again thank you
0lp
Your* blindness is no excuse for bad English
“legally blind” So you are not actually blind.
@@marioxerxescastelancastro8019You understand “Blindness” just mean loss of or lack of sight right? It doesn’t immediately mean they see absolutely nothing. Relax bud
Great hustle! Good to see a sense of urgency still is in effect with some stations.
Sheds shouldn't be allowed if they sit that close to neighbors..... If they are going to allow it they should require fiber cement siding on the houses. Just look at the damage on those poor peoples home.
So change the codes. Posting on YT does nothing.
@@RLTtizME 🙄
Fantastic work by the FD here. For a lot of structure fires the structure is a loss by the time the first apparatus rolls up, but this was a rapidly evolving disaster and seconds counted, so they were pulling pre-attached lines from the moment the truck pulled up and those seconds made all the difference. The exposure was crisped, but the rest of the house was saved thanks to their quick action, as well as the neighboring house (which had already started a fire in the garbage bins nearby when the firefighters pulled in).
Attaboy, fellas! You showed everyone how its done.
It was also noticeable how the guys concentrated their hose line on the building fire first . As you say the priority was to save the house , the shed was probably a lost cause before the FD were even called .
At 2:45, The hot rod with the mullet, big belly, and white high tops waving the 1st due in made my day! Somebody buy that man a beer!
Chief getting it done!!
3 chiefs and not one piece of turnout gear.......
Nomex t shirt and sneakers...
Now that is how you do a fast attack! Firefighters turned out and hitting this quick! You don't see this very often on CZcams!
Great tactics in a timely manner. Stopped the spread, hit the source, and focused on life safety.
Water on the exposure in less than a minute, great job.
7:45. Total professionalism. No need to bust out every functional window. Just open them!
Nice to see a Dept.that Knows how to open a window instead of busting every one out like “other” departments do , Great Job!
Very good response and teamwork. Nice job! These volunteers outperformed most full-time departments.
Nice hustle! Line flaked out, charged, and water on the fire nice and fast. That's the way it's done right there.
Water on the fire in just 55 seconds of being on scene. Impressive!
I ❤ it. Upon arrival of first fire apparatus they immediately got water on the fire 🔥. I hate to see units arrive and everyone standing around. Size up, rescue and water on fire. This is teamwork and professionalism at its best. Super job!!! God bless our first responders. 🇺🇸
Great hustle to get water on the fire so fast. Something you just rarely see any more. Congratulations guys.
So sorry for the owners of the exposure property, it could have been much worse without the SHFD's quick action ✌ great job 👏
So upsetting, we all felt that fire,,,great job fire fighters
I'm not a terrible person at all, but I would be some unhappy to have my home take a beating like that from a damn neighbor's shed
@@putsie1974 you would be unhappy but not for long though your insurance company would hopefully be able to cover the cost of the repairs
@@AllMi3htykid thankfully it wasn't the entire home. All that would matter in the long run would be that any living creature residing there made it out safely. Homes can be rebuilt. Families and fur babies, not so much
@@putsie1974 Damr but thankfully it wasn't the whole house.
It boggles my mind how some departments can get water on the fire in 60 seconds, while other departments in similar situations take 5-6 minutes or longer.
Depends on two factors; hydrant proximity and on board tank size. Man power makes a huge difference too.
The "Plumbers Crack" was classic.
Don’t forget the mullet
The speed that they got lines in service was insane
Excellent and informative video on how a fire department handles a fire. Even more impressive that they appear to be volunteer firefighters. Would make a great training video for other fire departments.
They were quick getting their BA on and getting to work .
This has got to be the quickest fire department I've ever seen truly professional :)
This is how it should work! Not dragging feet. Way to hustle. Great job! Bit of an issue getting that front door open to the exposure.
There was so needed to destroy that door under "These" circumstances. They could have broken a windowpane, climbed in and unlocked the door.
That was bloody amazing. While truck still in movement stepping out, hose was stretched in seconds, they saved the house. Absolutley brilliant and amazing. Many fire units to watch and to learn how to respond to the fire. I can not praise these guys enough. 🧡🧡🧡❤️❤️❤️🧑🚒🧑🚒🧑🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒
Don't give praise for reckless behavior. The Captain should not have been hanging out the damn door while truck is moving. Looking cool and being smart are two different things. He should be suspended for that stunt.
@@michaelperkins739 that's not reckless that's just instant respond. Thanks to that they managed to save the house. Firefighters are suppose to be like that you know, and since my grandfather was firefighter like that I have every right to praise them. They did a hell of a job AMAZING AND SUPER BRAVE they are HEROES and you're Mama's boy!!!!
@@mirilikolar Sorry, no. Firefighters are NOT supposed to be like that. Their first priority is always life safety, and the officer climbing out before the truck stopped is COMPLETELY unsafe. But I agree with others here that, other than that, they did a great job.
I wanted to see a deck gun
This is why many cities/towns have setback requirements for sheds and outbuildings from property lines. Great job by this fire department.
They got water on that quickly, nice job by the fire department! Just a small bit of advice to JSFD, I know it's loud with all the action and sounds of the engines, fire, radio comms but if you could tone down the yelling it would make your videos a little better. The yelling was almost too much and I scrambled to get to my remote to turn it down, haha! Anyway, nice work from everyone there.
Excellent and rapid knockdown by a purely volunteer squad! You guys nailed it. Nothing like vinyl siding and osb to go up like a roman candle!
45 seconds after arrival and the waterhose was flowing, outstanding work.
You guys did an awesome job at knocking down that fire... it could have been horrific if that 3 story house had continued to burn. Very well done guys......
Nice to see a FD roll up and actually put water on the fire quickly. Great training made that possible, well done!
Impressive firefight and containment. You knew from the Officer hopping out of the Truck even before it stopped, that this crew is a well-oiled machine.
Great job on the video and great job to all the firefighters always be safe 🚒🚒
Thank you for being first due reporter. Great narrative. So glad they stopped fire from exposure. Only one side of house was damaged. It's so interesting to watch the siding just melt/ shrink up. Very dangerous chemical's in that siding, don't breath it in.
Home builders often use synthetic/lightweight materials from the outside in as a way to keep projects at a low cost to them. As an end result, materials burn quicker when ignited and are subject to enhanced risk of collapse when under a heavy load.
Dang. I'm always so impressed with the skill and professionalism. Amazing how fluid y'all work.
The boys did a great job on this one, its hard to believe the damage caused by a small shed.
Good training and team work I liked the way they handled the line as they played it out.
Yeah , as soon as they noticed it was snagged on that corner they sorted it out . Good Work !
I feel bad for the neighbors! What a shock to come home to.
It could have been much worse, if not for those guy's excellent service
Gladly da fire fighters acted quickly cuz da whole house would’ve been gone
Let's stop and hope everyone is doing ok the paramedics and firemen deserve a lot of credit your service and time and efforts are deeply appreciated thanks great job great catches as usual keep them safe out there you guys rock thanks ! Joe
That front door was well secured, good security, took them awhile to make entry.
Nice job all around. Very quick getting water on the fire and the engine officer correctly went to the front door to force entry. Good to see urgency all around, well trained and led volunteer company. Excellent video 👍
Seriously the fastest and most well trained department I've ever seen between arrival and getting water on the fire. These guys were hustling! Excellent work!
That’s horrible I’m hoping everybody’s OK hopefully you’ll get out safely it happens it’s life
The is by far the fastest I have ever seen any USA FD get water on a fire, BRAVO. This is the hustle we all expect. Well done !!!!!!!!!!
I love how you guys film everything and also fabulous work to the jersey shore fire department I love firefighters so much
How is it possible that such fire-unproof house cladding is even permitted. Good work from firemen.
Because the town allows it in their building code. They should require Hardie Plank for homes that use lap siding.
Perfect reason where I live, all sheds need to be 10 or more feet from property line or houses. Great save from these guys.
The guy narrating seems like he might be the one that set it. He keeps saying We have exposure and we got a little heat, he really seems excited. He should definitely be investigated!!
Quick response, these firefighters saved that house!!! I am impressed by the heat damage to siding on two adjacent houses. This explains the term "exposure" I've heard in these videos.
Great job by SHFD and great catch by JSFR, just breath a little when you arrive & while filming. You get yourself all cranked up and it makes it difficult to watch. Keep up the good work !
Nice knockdown and smart to pay attention to the exposure. Quick water. Hope they took temp readings on the wall from inside the exposure
Glad I found this channel! Awesome videos
Excellent work, water on the fire within one to two minutes of arrival. Just goes to show how pvc is so flammable- I’d never use it for cladding.
PVC. Are you serious? How can that type of material even get approved for use as cladding?
You know what good for them, that whole area of Lavalette/ortley beach is really a shore town with little people living their in this season. Great job on that first arriving rig getting there with a whole crew too. Sucks that all of these home built down there are literally a match box the siding went up in seconds. Nice job filming man love your stuff
People in this community just got rebuilt from Sandy. Much of this area was wrecked in the hurricane.
@@bentley4446 Ik I have been coming down to that area for a few years now great place man always there w my friends
Tell you what, for a shore town only really inhabited in the Summer, this department did an amazing job!
Good job, they are not wasting time like we can see on so many videos. As soon as they arrive they spray water. They saved the building.
Thank you fire fighters for your Dedicated services I give lots of praises to these Hero's
Most departments try to hook up to the hydrant before getting water on the fire do it the way this department does it and building can be saved
Nice to have 2nd due @ less than 2min to be water supply. If not your pulling supply line on arrivals.
Who was the oic he was very impressive too well done to all the crews who attended the strctuer fire you all done a first class job.
Great video what kind of scanner do you have
This is the first house fire where I actually saw a fireman run.. Good job!! 🤗
True professionals don't run. Creates an unnecessary safety hazard. Urgency is another thing altogether.
Those firemen were fast!
And I believe that Seaside Heights is a Volunteer Company, too!!
Great job boys. Initial attack and water on the fire was quick and effective. 🚒🇺🇸 Oh and very good video work.
Excellent hustle and knockdown by 1st arriving unit using tank water. All with 5 guys. These guys are trained well. Attaboy for the training officers.
Great job that was incredible footage!
Aside from some small safety issues, excellent initial attack and knockdown, AND it was done with tank water and no hydrant established!! 👍
Agreeded but get that hydrant water as soon as possible
This is a good video. I hope it is used as a training video and both good stuff and mistakes are pointed out. The one thing I'm going to point out just because not many people thing about it. Why not break the glass at the front door reach in and unlock it?
AWESOME vid🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 What sparked the fire in the shed?
Outstanding response here.
SEASIDE got there faster that Tom's River's Ocean Beach!!!
Good video. This shows how quickly conditions can change. Lots of Monday morning quarterbacking could be commented on but FD did the best with what they had.
Monday morning has nothing to do with performing the job correctly at all times.
@@JB91710 not you again
Great job by the SHFD.
Used to rent a house in Ortley every summer many moons ago. Keep up the great work.
10:18 love the professional & simple central command station deck from back of Chief/Command vehicle!
In my community, they would drive all 9 company vehicles and entire volunteer personnel into death before an outside agency arrived and said “set-up command station for command and personnel accountability, effectiveness and safety”
What happens when a Vinyl Village starts to combust?
THIS!!
Vinyl Village! Thanks. hah.
So much fire from such a small shed! Amazing speed by that crew getting water so quickly!
Best Pre-Arrival Video I've seen! What camera do you use?
Good video capture. I would like to use this video clip for some fire science training I do. Please advise and reply if this could be done. Thank you.
Good knock overall. I can appreciate the sense of urgency, but getting out of the apparatus while it's moving is dangerous. Mask up too, shed or not, don't breath that shit in. Nice job stopping it from getting into the exposure, that could have gotten ugly real quick.
It appears that the police department was already on the scene before the fire department showed up did anybody notice that not one cop. Did not knock on any surrounding houses to see if anybody's inside
They probably already did before this video started 🤷
I have seen a lot of this fire 🔥 videos. I can say in confidence that this fire fighters are one of these fastest 💨 that I have seen to get water in a structure fire when they first arrived on the scene of the fire 🔥. I mean they got there and drop hoses and charged the hoses very quickly wow 🤩. Great job fire fighters. 👍👍
In watching a bunch of these, this is only the second one I watched where they used a spray instead of a stream. It quickly smothered the fire. Kudos Guys!!!!!!!!!!!
That guy walking around the whole time was a really big help. Guess it's beneath him to possibly hit the house exposure as best as possible with the garden hose.
Hell atleast the chief could of put some effort in and used the hose on the shed to slow its progression might not of destroyed the exposed as bad
Nice work containing a fire with just one line and tank water on a quint. Makes a good argument for a lot of scenarios on why these trucks make sense
Good job knocking down the fire but one thing I noticed it was 6 minutes into the video before anyone went to the front door of the exposed building to see if it was occupied.
Good point
What was in shed that lit it up ?? Similar shed fire near me year ago....
