  • Slide gloves are a piece of kit that open doors to all kinds of fun on a longboard. My old bashed-together gloves are falling apart so it's time to make a new, better set of slide gloves. Hope you like it!

    When I did longboarding I screwed a piece of cutting board to leather working gloves from the inside. When the screws wore through the plastic it made for nice spark effects with the unwanted side effect of the screws getting hot and burning your palms. 😅 Solved that by gluing another piece of cutting board on top of the other. When it wore through I just pried it off and glued another.
    Anyway, if anyone consideres making slide gloves, the dirtier the better. They are going to be dragged through dirt and asphalt. 😃 The bigger the puck the longer they last. Yours looks like the fancy and expensive ones you could buy, so well done!

    I made some using basically the same technique, except I used recycled milk cartons and melted and cast the pucks into mini square-shaped heat-proof casserole dishes. It was quite a lot of work and pretty hectic working with the molten HDPE but they turned out pretty good, although they were a lot thicker which made them heavy, but they last longer.

    1. Thank you for making this video. Saved me from explaining another Amazon package to my wife.
    2. Do you think you could have skipped most or all the planing/finish sanding by just using the heat gun or a torch to smooth the texture?

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  Před 3 lety +1

      No problem! And yes, you can totally skip most of the post-processing I did on the pucks

    Slide tips:
    1. Don't grab between your legs
    2. Keep your weight on your toe or heels depending on the slide until you've hooked up again
    3. hookup when you're still crouched

    I'm a maker, just recently getting into longboarding (working on building an electric board!) Few weeks ago I took a nasty fall around 20-25mph, no pads besides a helmet... Miraculously no breaks/fractures, but I wasn't walking for a couple days and the road rash is still healing, especially RIGHT where some pucks would've come in real handy (pardon the pun lol)... These gloves should probably be my next project 😅 Thanks for the vid, I'll def be checking out your channel!!

    Put more weight on your hand and less in your feet, so you can control wheel lock up with delicate weight adjustment. Also not holding the board with your off hand gives you more range of movement to adjust weight :) great video! Great idea sewing the Velcro on too - will be doing this myself. I just glue-gunned some chopping board cutouts on in the past and they end up quite clunky so gonna Velcro this time!

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  Před 2 lety +1

      I like having the finger pucks, you don't have to think as much about how you;re putting your hand down. I've never seen wrist pucks and I don't think I've ever put my wrist down so that seems less useful to me
