Cerys Matthews performing an arrangement of the traditional Irish folk song "Galway Shawl" and Catatonia hit "Strange Glue" live at Rhos-y-Gilwen, Pembrokeshire in 2008.
I honestly can't believe this even exists! Words fail - just beautiful - and to tie these two songs together from, apparently, different genres so seamlessly!!! I'm just in awe - what incredible songcraft and the voice of an absolute angel !!
Over the last few years I find myself coming back to this video.Never fails to leave me profoundly thankful for music.Beautiful and I love her version of the Galway shawl.
Calon lan - that is the legacy of my beloved grand parents and parents. Every blessing that I have today comes from their beautiful example and teaching. Cymru am byth.
I would like to learn welsh only to tell Cerys how I love her. I remember driving by night through the Jura mountains (in France, not the scottish island) and our kids were singing on the back seat the songs of her solo albums...
does anyone know if this is recorded somewhere? on a CD or MP3 ..... i feel certain no vinyl .... it is just hauntingly beautiful to me ... I have the Strange Glue song by Catatonia but this is better. Clearer. I wish Cerys could re-record somehow the entire wonderful International Velvet album with a good bet less distortion in it. Or what ever the noise is called ... It is an amazing album but stereos do not always love it ... I was testing out some new speakers last night and put a CD version of it on ... I was like ... wow these speakers suck ... well then I put on a less "noisy" record ... what is her name .... Ravi's daughter ... oh ya ... Norah Jones .... speakers became a keeper. I need to study this more ... often certain speakers work better with different types of music ... but not many truly love International Velvet ... it seems to me .... I would love to hear your thoughts. Jerry
Its crazy you can see shes holding back whats inside, She really want to let rip into the song. But holds it back. I love everything she has ever done but this song is amazing. She really needs to be my wife
Okay, thanks, Bea Geraghty, I checked it out and gave it a listen. Very nice. You know, as much as anything I really like the guitar work there. Also, I agree with you; I love how Cerys sings this song too. My favorite thing ever by her is her old-time-Nashville-flavored version of "Arglwydd Dyma Fi." czcams.com/video/kSHvaLI1IgY/video.html
Not forgotten by anyone with good taste - only by unmoored twats like you. She has more talent in a fingernail than you ever had had in your entire corpus, or have now, or or ever will have between now and the day you die.
Smashing... i miss the 90’s so fucking much...

Absolutely stunning singer Great version of galway shawl
Cerys still sings Strange Glue as wonderfully as she did back in the 90s - a remarkably talented and unique woman ❤️
Her voice gets better with age which is rare!
Glad she sang “she said”

Simply beautiful! The song and the singer! Don't you wish that after she would have broken out Road Rage!!! LOL!!! Just wonderful.

This. It makes me weep at the beauty
The rendition of this song by miles - effortless without all the drama to hide the fact that the other renditions the people can’t sing
Whats wrong with both together then? Don't be so self righteous!
they were a great band from the ninties like the seekers from the 60s.

Her voice had gotten vastly better by then, though I think she was a bit of a booze queen back in the day
Sorry Cerys Mathews you have a lovely voice and can sing a beautiful song but you destroyed the Galway shawl
And you can direct us online to a properly sung version, then?
@@Tubebrerry I love how Cerys sings this song. But one of my favourite versions is: czcams.com/video/TUf1fDLkaIY/video.html
