Even better than the one where they sing near a cliff side, though those acoustics are impressive.

The first time I heard this performance it left me shaking. I felt like it reached deep inside and woke something ancient in me - older than Vikings, older than iron blades, older than cities. I saw myself running across a Neolithic plain, fellow hunters at my side, chasing wild game that’s no longer found in this world. Beneath the thin veneer of civilized customs and manners we are all still untamed predators. That’s what this song evokes in me.

Very cool song. I also love many folk music too (including 'Viking' ones ;) ). This performance is all about harmonies. Aurora and Wardruna singer voice worked very well together (and this is a standard situation with Aurora as she always make great harmonies with backup singers or other artists :) ).. Also love the Aurora intro on the very start and how it transferred between her and his voice.
Thx for reaction, and yes as Aurora has so many great songs there are many to go :P

    The path to Hel
    Versions: #1#2#3
    Who shall sing me,
    Into deathsleep sling me,
When I on the path to Hel go,
    And this track I tread
Is cold, so cold, so cold.
    I sought the songs,
    I sent the songs.
    Then the deepest well
    Gave me tears so harsh
    From the Slain-father's1 pledge.
    I know everything, Odin,
To whom you gave your eye.
    Who shall sing me,
    Into deathsleep sling me,
Whence I on the path to Hel go,
    And this track I tread
Is cold, so cold, so cold.
Early or in the day's end,
The raven still knows if I fall.
Once you stand at the gate to Hel
And when you have to tear free,
    I shall follow you
    Over Gjallarbrú2 with my song.
You will be free from the bonds that bind you,
You are free from the bonds that bound you!
    "Cattle die,
    Friends die,
    So, too, must you die.
    Though one thing
    Never dies;
The fair fame one has earned.
    Cattle die,
    Friends die,
    So, too, must you die.
    I know one,
    That never dies;
    Judgement of a dead man's life."3
    1. "Father of the slain"
    2. Gjallarbrú (literally "Gjöll Bridge") is a bridge spanning the river Gjöll ("Resounding") in the underworld, which must be crossed in order to reach Hel.
    3. Verses from Hávamál, 76-77.

"To whom you gave your eye" might make sense from the mythological point of view, as Odin sacrificed his eye for knowledge and wisdom, tossing into the well where Mimir dwelled (likely the well of Urd where Odin later also learned the runes). So in a sense, he "gave" his eye to Mimir.
But the direct translation would be "Where you hid your eye":
      Kvar=where du=you auget=eye ditt=your løynde=hid (away).
The answer to which is in the said well.

Very nice reaction Samantha, as always 🤗
This is such a great performance, love it😍
Wardruna is a Norwegian music group formed in 2003 by Einar Selvik along with Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella. They are dedicated to creating musical renditions of Norse cultural and esoteric traditions, and make significant use of Nordic historical and traditional instruments including deer-hide frame drums, flutes, kraviklyra, tagelharpe, mouth harp, goat horn, and lur. Non-traditional instruments and other sources of sound like trees, rocks, water, and torches are also used.
“Helvegen” (the road/path to Hel, not Hell) amongst other songs from Wardruna and Einar Selvik is in the Viking series, Einar also has small guest roles in it👍
In Norse mythology, Hel is an underground realm of the dead where it was believed that most people ended up when they died. In Norse cosmology, north is the direction towards cold and death. It is therefore understandable that Hel is cold and intractable, and that the road there leads "north and down".
Hel is also the name of the ruler of the underworld. She is motherly and terrifying, and her skin is part blue-black like that of a corpse and part human-colored. She is very greedy and does not easily give up the dead who end up with her.
I know you probably have a list of Aurora suggestions, so I won’t give you more 😅
Looking forward to your next Aurora reaction 💕

Title "Wardruna" consists of 2 words: "ward" (as "guard", "guardian" in English) and "runa" ("rune", among other meanings), so it's "guardian rune", or "protecting rune", and has nothing with word "war", actually meaning is obviously quite opposite.

Hi from germany, this is a very old song from nordic germanic history, Odin and his Raven watching and knowing evrything because he gave his eye to be all knowing and it tells you how to get to Helheim ( Hel ) the place of the daughter of Loki, you have to cross the bridge over Gjöll ( the river of the dead ) which is the border river from the human world Midgard to the underworld of Helheim it is guarded by the giant Móðguðr, she belongs to the Jötun. If you reach the entry to Helheim the door is guarded by the hellhound Garm, which lets pass all who didnt die in battle, all who are convicted of murder, cheating or to bear false witness are going to the part of Helheim which is called Náströnd, It all is part of the Edda (nordic, germanic saga)

Hi Samantha, this is an interesting collaboration between AURORA and Wardruna. The Vikings are back.😁😂
Wardruna's singer also has a great voice. It goes well with this song. Is this in a song by a shaman?
It's great that you paid attention to these small but actually beautiful details. The performance itself was so interesting that most people get involved with it.
I can recommend a very different song by AURORA:
    - Apple Tree - czcams.com/video/AvPzwKQKZTc/video.html
--> "Apple Tree" finds Aurora being hopeful that we can all save the world together. The track's sound stands out in her discography as one of her most different songs, with her vocal delivery during the verses displaying a flow comparable to rap music. Upon release of the music video Aurora posted a lengthy note on her social media.[6] A similar note is in the music video's description: "Apple Tree is about the potential that hides in all of us. We can all save the world if we put our minds to it. The world won't listen to scientific proof that the world is dying, so maybe it will listen to the dreamers, the children. In a bleeding world the power of the individual is our only hope. Let her save the world. Let him save them all. Believe in us, and maybe we'll be the generation that saves the world, rather than the one that killed it."
    (aurora-aksnes.fandom.com/wiki/Apple_Tree)

Important fact. The Norse "Hel" is not the same as Christian "hell" (though both words are originating from the same proto-germanic word.
Hel is not a bad place to end up at all. It is the "hidden place" mostly described as the underworld we pass into after death.
This song is however most about our legacy in life. The Scandinavian Sami people will to this day "sing" people - or even locations or events. This is typical for a culture having roots before writing. As long as your memory lives in a song, you are not truly dead. (Not too different from the core ideas of the Disney movie "Coco" right?)
The point is - this is Norse moral philosophy. Your reputation is everything. Be brave, graceful, and trustworthy and your life will be remembered with praise. 👍
