    My advice when selecting a flight the cheapest option is invariably to fly on a Tuesday for Spain and Canary Islands and the earlier you purchase it the cheaper it will be. Then buy the standard fare and at next stage take the priority boarding it’s about £6 pp per flight and you get to take your rucksack and a 10kg hand luggage case each which is big enough for a week. I just load my rucksack with my underwear and a towel and have loads of space in my 10kg case for rest of stuff. You also get to take it all on the plane with you so you don’t need to wait for baggage when you get off the plane, just remember you can’t take much liquids with you, I always buy a set from home bargains or B and M,s for £1-2 that enables you to split your sun tan lotion, mouthwash etc into 5x 100 ml clear bottles which saves you paying over the odds at your destination. Personally I don’t mind paying £6 for a beer it’s usually 2 for £10 when I’m flying as I’m on holiday but I do usually take a couple of rolls and cold meat not to save money but the onboard food isn’t great tbh. Hope these tips help others.

      The European budget airlines are quite strict about the free carry on sizes because they want to gouge a bit more cash out of you so always check the allowances. The Osprey Farpoint fits the allowance size for the extra paid carry on that you can fit in the overhead locker which is the best solution. 👍

      Yes it's not so fair for people who have to carry a lot of meds as the weight adds up. Many budget airlines differ with their prices. It certainly has forced us to learn how to travel light which makes it a lot easier in the long run. 👍

    Safe travels on your new adventures!! So, I prefer Easyjet to Ryanair, however that said Ryanair saved us one time...We missed our flight on TAP (probably never take them again) and to book another flight it was going to be around 500€! So, we declined and started looking around...Found Ryanair booking for the next day at like 20€!!! Great excuse to stay in Lisbon another night and have another Portuguese dinner!! It's true Ryanair prices only go up if you don't book right away and I really don't like all the gimmicks (lottery tickets, products for sale and horribly expensive food/drinks...I say no to it all! One other thing is that they make it so difficult to decline the insurance and I have had trouble printing the boarding pass. Phew...There you have it!! Oh, some years ago they were going to charge me for a small purse...I shoved it in my cabin bag (tough to do) and took it right out when I got on the plane!! None of this with Easyjet!! Take care and keep smiling!!!

      So glad Ryanair saved you there. That's pretty lucky to get a €20 flight for the next day. Well done. Many a time have we gone through with multiple pockets bulging to beat the weight restrictions. 😁😁 ~ Lee

    Hello Mandy / Lee,
    Many still complain about Ryanair, they want a better service but on low fare budget ! Which obviously isn't possible.
    Funny enough, I on'y had one issue with Ryanair and that was on my first ever flight. A 6hr delay, ouch.
    Regarding the cost it varies, there's about 180 seats in a Boieng 737, they price 20 seats @20€, 20 seats @40€, 20 seats @40€, 20 seats @60€, etc
    Meaning the first bookings are usually the cheapest.
    Anyway, hope you guys are doing well, wishing you a pleasant week ahead, take care ✌️

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  Před rokem +2

      Hi Sergio. 😊
      Yeh, you get what you pay for so if you are flying for a few hours for €20 you really can't complain about anything. 😂
      A 6 hour delay is a bummer. At least it wasn't totally cancelled. I've heard some horror stories during the recent troubled times.

      If it is a soft bag and you can squeeze it into the testing box then it won't be a problem. If it is a solid case and doesn't fit in then they could charge you for that. They don't always check. It's a bit random. I saw people taking on bigger ones. It's just a bit of a gamble.

    • @kbalks
      @kbalks Před 9 měsíci

      @@user-vk6nw4cv8b Everything went well both when flying from Berlin and from Porto. On the first flight they didn‘t really check the baggage at all. Most people had very oversized bags. However, the first flight was done by Malta Air (for Ryanair) and they did have bigger overhead compartments compared to the Ryanair plane on the second flight. There it was really close with my hardshell suitcase so more than 3cm oversize would have become an issue.
      So I think the airport staff is way too stressed to have time for measuring and charging people’s luggage (maybe they do it more at Ryanair’s „home“ airports in Ireland/GB). But maybe check if the flight is done by Ryanair or a sub-company and don‘t have too much of an oversize (in the depth of your suitcase at least).

    I'll be bringing a one small cabin bag 55x40x20cm (10Kg). My options are either pay £181 for checked bag 20Kg (119 × 81 × 119 cm) OR Cabin bundle (40x20x25 + 55x40x20+ priority pass) which's £217....BUT both options are overpriced for my carry on 10Kg bag!! what a bugger!! :(

      Ouch. That seems quite pricey for both options. Is this travelling at a peak time/season? Prices seem to be rising. After travelling a fair bit with carry on only I must say it's a whole lot more convenient than checking bags in and having to wait at the carousel.
      In your situation though I'd probably take the cheaper option.

      If you haven't checked in online, then you'd be charged to check in at the airport. You would have to pay for the 10kg carry on bag, either in advance or pay more at the desk.

      @@FrugalTravellers Thanks for the answer. I think I will let it show on my way to Scotland… Just to see if they allow it. My bag will be quite empty then, so if they say it’s not allowed, I.ll be able to put it in my backpack. Then when travelling back home, if allowed, I can stuff more souvenirs in my bag and fanny pack. If not allowed, i’ll hide it on the return. I also plan to only bring « disposable clothes », IA clothes that I don’t like anymore, or are worn out. That way, I won’t have to carry them back home : i’ll just leave them there (will clean it and donate it to some charity) Not sure what I’ll find there but I do plan to buy a few warm wool sweaters. The price of a plane ticket must be at least £10,- per mile in general! If you got a mudslide of body size buy two tickets! If you got kids strap m down on the chair and put a sock in it! If you sitting next to a person of a different country/colour/etc. And you don’t like it get off the plane immediately and don’t argue with staff for a different seat! also mandatory breathalyzer alcohol checks! wait so ryanair earns money through extra fees but the majority of the people know that and just use a small bag and don't pay that fee ,, so like is hitting only a few unsuspecting people with fees enough to earn profits? how big/small are their margins. i need to know.

      It's not just the baggage fees... a certain number of tickets are sold very cheaply, then the next lot are dearer, and it keeps going up in price. The first tickets might go for €10, but tickets on the same flight purchased a month later could be €350!

    Ryan Air is a terrible company, really unpleasant customer service and uncomfortable planes BUT as Lee said, you get what you pay for and they can be very cheap and no reason not to use them IF you understand what you're buying and how to work it to your advantage. I use them when it's cheap but I really appreciate Virgin Atlantic when I fly further, but it's obviously much more expensive.

    My only hassle I have with Ryanair is the following:
    Because I have an Iphone 6, I cannot download the app for some of these airlines. So I always need to have a physical ticket, which requires a trip to the printing shop. In Paphos I paid a total of 4 euros for my boarding pass to London at an internet cafe (internet usage and printing), even though I was only there for under 5 minutes
    If I'm going to book a return flight. I'll pay 8 euros to get both my boarding pass, so I can print them out ASAP. Most hotels would be happy to print out your boarding pass, but then its always a bit of a challenge to find an internet cafe for printing. I once found an internet cafe in Skopje, but no printing avalible.

      Hi Martin. That's so strange that it doesn't work on the iPhone. I'm surprised they haven't developed that as so many people use them. There is no problem on android.
      I can see the huge inconvenience especially as internet cafes are slowly becoming extinct now everyone has a smartphone and data or WiFi. 😔
