  • Does it make sense to send some of the overcrowded prison population to space prisons? In today's insane video we're going to investigate whether space prisons are really the way to go for solving our overcrowding in prisons here on planet Earth, but if they did send prisoners to space prison, what would they be like? Watch today's crazy new video to find out!

    "If someone commits a crime, we just reprogram their brains so that they don't commit that crime anymore."
    That's probably the most horrific dystopian thing I've heard in a while. Who defines the crime? What authority determines what a crime is and what the reprogram your brain into? If disagreeing with the status quo becomes a crime, and all defectors get reprogrammed... What's left?
    And yes, this post is a commentary on modern politics.

    I have a this odd feeling that sending prisoners to a “space prison” or foreign planet to inhabit would easily qualify for at least one of the following: Inhuman treatment of a person/prisoner, Crime against humanity, Crime against social justice, Creul and unusual punishment.
    Actually, it probably qualifies for all of those, and more...

      Well see that's the beauty of it. Space is so big government law enforcement is extremely difficult. A lot of the time justice will simply be a gun. So you dont have to worry about "human rights violations"

      @DN-ko7yn Před 3 lety +5

      P-Wigs, in the beginning, space will basically be an even worse version of the wild west, but eventually, technology will most likely advance in some way to make it possible to govern it. While what you stated would all be problems, a huge issue would be it wouldn't end well if prisoners on some planet decided to just rebel and rise up against the guards, which would be inevitable long term and if they were being mistreated it'd happen faster. Prisoners in the US or any country don't simply rebel because if they did the military would just take them down. But on a planet that wasn't very established militarily, prisoners could potentially take everything on the planet over, which if it had any form of resource mining on it they would have the means to gain a decent amount of money and could sustain themselves. Assuming the world wouldn't be unified, they might even be able to establish themselves as an actual nation and get to trade with other colonies or eventually, they could start just attacking other colonies and planets taking their resources and if they attacked colonies with prisons they could then recruit those prisoners and unless ships were fast enough to travel in time to actually stop this, space could become ridden with space pirates and space bandits. Also, the further they got from Earth the longer it would take for any military operation to get there so establishing a prison system like we have on Earth would be a whole lot of trouble which really would just never be worth the risk involved. Technically the prisoners would need to know how to pilot the ships and use whatever machines they capture, but as time goes on there would be people who knew how to do those things put in prison who could teach other prisoners how to use them. Plus that isn't even considering that if the Earth wasn't completely unified other countries could easily secretly meddle with other colonies and in the beginning, it would likely be difficult to actually figure it out. Though the idea of a huge space revolution is kinda cool so I don't know if I would really oppose space prisons tbh.

    Imagine waking up and learning your friends and family are dead. Your baby kids is now an adult who moved on with their lives and gives zero flip about you, someone who was never in their life... That will be a massive blow to these criminals.

    I have doubts about how well keeping prisoners trapped in their minds for their 3 decade sentence will work. It seems like it could potentially cause a lot of psychological trauma. Prisoners could experience a disconnection from reality, they may struggle to trust anything again as they have just spent the past 30 years of their life in a matter of hours. Along with a large variety of other potential side effects.

An hour later a guard came to me to see if he could get some balogna for a kitten the inmates were hiding. He asked me to keep it a sectet. Twenty minutes later another guard came repeating everything the last guard said. All the guys on the range filled ther pockets with dirt during yard for the kittens litter box. Saw a number of inmates with pet mice as well. Animals seem to have a real calming effect. Some of these people are in for very violent crimes but they look after and protect these furry friends.
