This flips a lot of ideas I had about brain injury. CTE happens over time. People get injured and then get worse over years. It's not that we have a noticeable brain injury then either stay the same, or slowly recover.

I was just at BU for 2 days...I was told every time I had my 'bell rung' that's a concussion. So we calculated I've had over 1,500 concussions... sounds crazy right? But I was at the best place in the country doing testing. I also donated my brain..

Lots of abuse as a child. Lots of behavioral issues and many many fist fights. Knocked out about 12 times and couldn’t count the concussions beginning at a young age by my Father. I have all of the symptoms mentioned for CTE. After a suicide attempt in 2019 I was diagnosed bi-polar(blanket diagnosis)and given lithium. Made me sleep 24/7 with 0 motivation. I don’t want to die! I don’t want to be a zombie on lithium! And I don’t want the erratic behavior and outbursts! I want a normal life that I can get along with people. I have no friends nor family and I travel town to town fitting in until the outbursts begin then I move on. I don’t get close to anyone because I know they will judge me and eventually hate me. I am so sad and lonely and need help sooner than later. I feel hopeless.

I'm 45 and had brain surgery at age 10 that caused TBI and now live with CTE. My neurologist has no idea how to treat me. I have neurofibromitosis type 2, which is the cause of the tumors. I also lived a long time from childhood into almost age 30 in abuse. Can you help me? University of Florida neurologist for patients with NF and CTE are zero help for adults.

Great video. Football, especially the NFL causes CTE. CTE is incurable, incredibly common, and cannot be prevented. It comes from multiple episodes of acceleration/deceleration; this is even seen in youth tackle football players. There is no doubt that NFL FOOTBALL SHOULD BE BANNED! In my opinion all tackle football should be stopped forever!

What did doctor omalu the guy who found this in Mike Webster discover? They made it seem like he discovered cte but from what I've seen it's been known since the 1920's? I watched the movie concussion and when he was telling the doctors what he found they told him he has to give it a name. That's when he named it cte, so did he just name this disease which has been around for yrs cte? What was it called before this?

The disease was known as dementia pugilistica or punch-drunk syndrome, in boxers in the 1920s. Dr Omalu discovered it in football players. The naming is likely due to a) the previous terms describe some symptoms, but not the underlying issue (degenerative brain disease). You don't have to have dementia to have CTE, through it may progress into that. So DP is in fact caused by CTE. b) These terms refer to specifically to boxer's dementia, as it was thought to be limited to that sport (years of specifically getting punched in the face). But Dr Omalu discovered that the cause went far beyond what was assumed. Hope this helps

Are there ways to definitively detect CTE without examining a brain after death? Are there ways to directly examine the living brain? Are there ways to detect CTE by examining people's behaviour and aptitudes?

didn't know i was knocked out, didn't know i sustained brain damage. empirical evidence pointed at it. scared to hear it from the doctor. loving family members around me knew what do, high tech solution that can be applied across internet. technologies beyond my imagination. can't listen, sounds horrible. keep up the good work, i would employ neural nets - Kurzweil.
