I dunno it was along time ago. I got 2150 black opti drive in my trunk right now. I get 2db more with it running 2ohm bridge than I do at 4ohm. If it's a regulated amp it shouldn't do that. I have to question we're all opti drive amps regulated .
So cool to see this.. I remember drooling over this amp 20 years ago.. I had 3 Optidrive 2100's running in series side by side 3 straight across ..2 amps were pushing 4 x JL audio 12's and the 3rd amp was driving my highs and mids.. Miss those days sometimes..
I remember reading about a guy in Florida being bored back in the early days of car stereo so he built a class d amplifier and in the late 1990's they began to make it a hit, around that time they brought back tube amps! I still have my JL Audio 15 W0 subs! If I can get it quick enough I am buying a opti 2150 that I will have to repair! Maybe after it is fixed I can get it bench tested by you! My fave was a US amps old two channel I had, I can't remember the numbers but I thought it was rated at 100x2 and actually put out 400+ bridged mono at 4 ohms "Their Ratings"! The old pyramids were pretty good back in the days as well, I passed on an amp that you tested it was an mtx old school and should have grabbed it, the numbers were unbelievable with your test! Remember match the impedance of your amp with your subwoofer wiring setup and never add too many speakers it will draw too many amps! That goes out to all the newbies! A stereo system is an investment that can literally last years or decades if you follow simple guidelines!

I had to get an AGM battery to run w/ my hybrid power supply/charger so I could test the ZR1000 and XS100 (and my RF Power 1000 Mosfet). Stay tuned, the tests of these amps is coming in the future.

Just so everyone knows, the Velleman HPS50 o'scope has a built-in RMS volt meter and does audio calculations automatically for 2 ohms up to 16 ohms. The 1 ohm and lower tests results were calculated using the (E^2)/R formula where E is the RMS volts and R is the resistance (ohms) of the load during that test
But I do remember how big those amps back in the day . It's amazing how small these amps are now and doing way more then 1,000 watts. I've had Kenwood Alpine Sherwood LANZAR now I got Rockville SKAR sound ordinance. I wanna try the CT sounds

You know it bro. I'm curious how the VLX-50 compares, we'll find out when I get a chance to test it. I won't spill the beans too much, but the Orion XTR-2250 made those JL 8W6's sound SO good. They are configured for 4 ohms mono, so it more perfectly matched the 2250 than the 50c. I thought the 50c made them sound good until I tested the 2250...
That was my favorite amp back in the day. A friend had this amp with a sealed box with 2 -15" lanzar comp purple subs. He played Orion song from master of puppets Metallica he said the box explode and the box was cracked in half...wow..true story 😳
Hi Brian, for shear SPL and burping, the AP would be the beast you'd want. If you wanted controlled bass output for your music, you would have to compare the two in your system to see which one sounded better. I don't like making sound quality judgements, b/c I believe they are purely subjective
Dereck BigDWiz Have you ever had one of the old Zapco 3 piece amps? From the late 70 or early 80's I think. I knew a guy that had some. As far as I know he was the first guy who ever used capacitors in a system. Judges didn't even know what they were back then. Smartest guy I ever saw. He was an a/c man. That's where he got them from back then.
I have heard stories that these would run a dead short! You need to do a true test of these and others with a wall of say 6 12" subs and some mids and tweets passively crossed over!!
Would love to have my Lanzar Vibe 241 tested, currently using it to power two party speakers and it thumps with great sound quality, even if its not as high quality as a other amps these guys deliver for the price.

Man, I just found this video again. Curious which amp was your favorite in the cheater series. When I was in high school and at my 1st 12v job (cleaning up shop, I was 16) I saw this amp set up in a Big old Caddy with 4" components up front, tweeters where in the a/c vents, a pair of Lanzar 6x9's and 2 15" LP--4's. Had a Lanzar Opti e5 EQ and a pioneer DEH-P715. It was amazing. Always a fan of these amps and gear pre-Pyramid.
I should have sent you my repaired Alpine v12 MRV-T500 to bench test, it cost me $86 in parts, all new transistors and op amps, pwm, and recovery diodes, but I burnt "Didn't fry" a 1200 watt woofer on it with the gain 1/4 up with 4v pre-out Pioneer! It was my nephews and now it's back in his car!
My friend used to run 8 15's from one of these in a battered out Toyota Starlet lol people used to be in shock after hearing it and not expecting what was to come.
I would love to see you run a dozen or so fairly efficient 12" sub-woofers off of this and see how she does! I have heard that back in the day Lanzar claimed these would run a dead short!

Say you put this amp Lanzar Opti 50c vs the AP-15001d, both at one ohm and burp a sub for SPL would the Lanzar quality make it louder our would the shear overall power of the AP-15001d win? I have 2 2500, a 2150, a 250, and a 4160 all bought by me in the early 90s, all still in use all work fine to this day. I would def like to know what my 2500 run, I have them on Fi BL 18 dual 2 ohm subs, one amp on each sub. No problems other than they suck the power down an kill most of my batteries.
I don't have this blue 50c anymore, but have a black one and I've tested it on the Dyno. Results are very similar to the ones in this video. I'll put it on the Dyno and make another video.
Scope really sucks...it has a really slow refresh rate and since the DD-1 was calibrated just prior to this test, I would rely on the red light on the DD-1 and not so much on the o'scope

how do i hookup 2 batteries in my car and if i do do i need 2 alternators? also my set up in a 120 amp 8000 watt max power amp is 4 channel each channel's rms is 1000 watts according to manual. and my speakers are 800 rms 2500 max they don't hit hard i like my bass to feel like an earthquake. right now they make my car shake like an massage chair. how do i make them better?
I have one of those. They are good for around 275W bridged at 4 ohms. They can handle the dynamic run at 2 ohms mono, but not the full certified 10 second sine wave test. I ran my Punch 150 25TL on the Amp Dyno a few months ago and popped all 3 of the 30A fuses trying 2 ohms mono...
Hless421 2 ohms mono or 1 ohm stereo is the same load on the amp. I'm hoping to get an SMD AMM-1 soon so I can test the amps output power at subwoofers, will be interesting to see how it compares to the resistive load of the AD-1. Speakers are reactive, not resistive, but I'm betting the resulting power output is very similar

That amp does quarter ohm Bridged all day with good volts and cooling.I had eight 12 inch duel 4 ohm on it.Total beast!
Re-test would be nice.
+New1Orleans Dyno goes to 1/2 ohm mono and since these amps are regulated, they don't benefit much from additional voltage

had one in 95 on four Lanzar 15dvc woofers hit 155 DB at 2400 Watts loved it the good old days

See if you can get a Rockford Fosgate P45 25 to life. It's 1 ohm stereo stable for sure and only has 30 amp fusing. Supposed to be 2x45w rms @ 4 ohm

Dereck BigDWiz I'm guessing 2 channel amps do better when you run both channels vs bridging. But those tests are pretty brutal, especially certified.
