  • This video looks at TP-Link's popular RE400 and RE450 Range Extenders, which are suitable for use in large homes. They offer easy setup and good performance. This is an unboxing, review, teardown disassembly, and setup tutorial of a free demo unit received from TP-Link, for testing and feedback, as part of their review program.
Do you have Wi-Fi problems in some area of your home or property; maybe a back bedroom, patio, or basement? Are there any Wi-Fi dead zones? A Range Extender can improve coverage, boost low Wi-Fi signals, and increase Internet speeds.
If there is a large area to cover, even if you have the best most expensive router, a Wi-Fi Range Extender might be needed. That’s because all routers have their maximum power throttled to meet maximum FCC requirements. That occurs even when running Open Source firmware. My large old house has plaster wire lathe walls which degrade Wi-Fi signals. For complete coverage, inside and outdoors in the garden, I use multiple access points and range extenders.

Thank you so much for the Video!
Brought AC1750 and all doing well,
except I am unable to use a different password than primary router, for extender. Any option?

I use a different password. Try again. Otherwise, suggest contacting TP-Link Tech Support on their website. Good luck.

Speed test a device connected to a Range Extender and it's typically half what it would be connected directly to the Router. That's because a Range Extender uses double the bandwidth. Each packet goes over the air twice. A packet travels between the Router and the Range Extender, and also from the Range Extender to a device. Putting the RE450 into High Speed mode helps solve this dilemma. Set up the RE450 to connect to the main router exclusively on one band and connect to devices on the second band. This is explained in TP-Link FAQ-943, "How to configure High Speed Mode in my dual band Range Extender." This FAQ is downloadable from TP-Link's website.
