Haven't used mine for a few years and I needed a reminder on how to use it. Thank you.
Here's a tip. Use a cotton ball and a scented oil (Eucalyptus) of your choice in the cup on top. Very effective and much cheaper than the branded Vicks vapor pads.
Over time, you will find the unit getting clogged with mineral deposits.
The most direct fix is to allow the unit to cool, remove the two star-headed screws on top, and the unit will come apart in three pieces; a blue lid, a white heater, and a black sleeve. Completely clean the black sleeve of debris, then, using pliers, gently break the cooked mineral crust from the two heating rods. Then reassemble the unit and replace the two screws.
If using salt to boost steam, use standard table salt and only a level teaspoon or less.
if you re not handy with a screw driver. use vinegar instead of water and run it for 3o mins to an hour, This will breakdown all the mineral deposits and hard water and will clear up the clog. To avoid clogs, you may use softwater or distilled water.

Just be careful with what oils/scents you use. Especially if you have pets. Even birds can be effected badly by them.

I just clean it out daily bc once I see that black stuff it makes me nervous lol it comes right out with a water change & quick vinegar/water rinse.

That’s how I was last year I'm in a Church choir so what I did was invest in two steamers one was the Vicks steamer and I don't use menthol because it drys out your throat and the other is the my pure mist and plus a humidifier at night

@@SamS-lq5df It takes like 10 minutes before it works. Pour a little bit of water inside and make sure you put the vapo pods.

@@saidsantoyo7222 Not sure if you can use it without the pods so I'd rather just buy the pods because it makes the air smells mint like the Vicks ointment.. I felt better after using it.

This is interesting. Mine wasn’t producing anything. The light was on, it would heat up and that’s it. I was about to throw it away. Gave it last try to see if I find anything on you tube. How is adding salt to water going to help it work? I thought to myself. Ok, added salt and voila, it’s working!!!!! Thank you!

I waited for 20 minutes for it to steam and nothing!!! I added a tablespoon of salt and got steam in 2 minutes!

I was using distilled water and thought it was broken. I added about a cup of my water from the faucet(we have a domestic well) and it started steaming right away! Hahaha I actually prefer this warm steam over cold humidifier

One of these the other day at the yard sale. It came with some liquid vapo steam. It smells like eucalyptus and once the water heats up you put it in the little bowl in the front and it will steam that and make the vapor smell like eucalyptus as well as those two holes that I didn't know. But learned from this video are also for the vapo pads.

It uses electrodes to heat the water. So basically adding salt makes the water more conductive. For example distilled water isn't conductive so if you put only distilled water in this it would never heat up. The more conductive the water is the faster it will heat and make vapor.

In order for it to work shortly is that you have to add a bit of table salt to the water. It's on the instructions.
It kinda says 10-15 min & then no smoke add salt

ADD SALT! I followed the instructions just like the video and got no steam. Unplugged it added about a table spoon and a half and if produced steam within 3 minutes.
I did that and mine started spitting water from the back. I’m seeing a lot of reviews with the spitting issue. Have you experienced this?

Is this the same as Vicks warm mist humidifier. And can you tell me if this is safe around younger children. Does it get hot when touched. I guess I just don't understand the difference between a humidifier and a vaporizer😀
It’s safe around children
A vaporizer is a type of humidifier. Just don't let the child touch the liquid that's in the front or get too close to get a slight burning feeling from the steam.

I came here because mine is not producing steam.. figured maybe I'd see what it looks like when working.
No end result, so basically I just wasted my time here.
Add some salt and it should work, unless it was not made correctly then, I will advise you to return it.
@@usefultipstricksandhacks5803 So the best advice in your video was to be patient. It took awhile to heat up but it's working. Sorry wasnt trying to be overly critical, I just have a nasty cold and was frustrated because this thing wasnt working. But I'd reccomend with a video like this, since it was giving you a hard time as well, an update showing the product working and the end result. But thank you!

Mine wasnt producing steam until i got a salt shaker and added about 5 or 6 shakes of salt in the tub..now it works great

That curved pouch is where You pour the “Vapo Steam” solution..this works well once you learn to use it. Mine doesn’t have the pouch’s you added on the side;however it does have the solution container on top. You need to purchase, then aid the solution. I think yours has a dual output. Oh well, you meant well. Read all of the instructions, then redo your presentation. Tks for your efforts! :)
You can still put the Vicks solution in the water. There’s another solution that they only recommend for that top part

I bought one. Didn't work. Exchanged it. Didn't work. So I tried the pinch of salt in the water.....BOOM! It was nearly instantaneous steaming. So if anyone doesn't get steam.....the pinch of salt does work.

I bought vic steamer from Walmart in box I thought it came with clear bottle medicine and pad .well when I went to use it it didn't have clear bottle medicine but it did have vic pad .now I thought wtf wear clear bottle .my aunt told me u got buy bottle differently because same thing happen to her .I was wtf .so I guess I have do that .now using salt like table salt u buy at store come in big round thing .things when I used old vic steamer that I had that stand up u use plastic top I never had use any salt it would steam right up I used warm tap water .I notice when u showing how use it it look like u didn't go to max like u can see on outside of steamer there line on inside .but I figure I can try put water level just barely tad under max line .see how it goes it look like it work.but like I said .I may have go cvs or wallgreens see if they have medicine bottle and try salt with it .put medicine either mix with water or put it in bowl thing right under were green light will show once u plug it in .maybe it will work that way and steam faster to .

I picked this up for work. My last one was smaller czcams.com/users/postUgkxtD9aJ2m6GU-X1IChQxjn9l31K1A7Kpwj and cuter but the motor burned out within a few months. This one's footprint is a tad bigger but it still doesn't eat up a lot of desk space. Its size and shape blends into the background nicely. This has a good size water container so I don't need to refill more than once a week. I use filtered (not distilled) water because cleaning up after our hard water is tough at work. I like that this has several settings. It's also very quiet. (I have a silence naxi in the next cubicle.) It also hasn't left that terrible while powder, so far, that some humidifiers leave. Been using this for a month or so now and am very happy with my purchase.

2 or 3 pinches of salt should be enough. If no vapor is produced after adding salt, I will advice you to exchange it.

How you know when to replace the pad Vick’s ?
It depends on your usage. Every 3 to 5 days or even longer. I do not use it every day so I change mine every 7 to 8 days.
