As a developer Bethesda is in the same boat as Bioware. A decaying slop of shit. I think they're an ok publisher though. id and Tango are awesome.
You totally glossed over why Prey 2 was cancelled. Bethesda wanted to buy Human Head Studio's they said no. So with the game set to release in 2012 and the dev needing a bit more time to polish the game, Bethesda stopped funding the studio in attempt to force a buy out due to the studio being locked into a contract they couldn't work on anything else and the studio near went bankrupt plus is yet to recover. As relations between the publisher and dev collapsed the game got cancelled. Human Head didn't make anymore games after that until Quiet Man and now the upcoming budget rpg Rune 2.
Even better is that the game was in a nearly finished state, too. iirc one of the devs said it was pretty much complete. Makes me even more angry; it sounded like an amazing game and I'm furious we'll never get to see it. With luck, the coding is still on some drive somewhere with one of the devs, but...

i’ve been playing elder scrolls blades since it was in open beta testing, and it’s honestly really fun. keep in mind, i’m on a jail broken device, and bethesda for some reason keeps all their iAP’s offline, not through a server. so i’ve “spent” over $6k in that game without actually spending a dime of real money.
You forgot the best part about the canvas bag. After hearing the complaints about it, bethesda decided to give the people that bought the bag 500 atoms to use in the atomic shop. Which is equal to $5
That whole conference had coded language. They said you could play 'solo', meaning you be wandering around alone in their online environment with 23 other players. The game thing goes for their 16x the detail, for distance landscapes specifically and absolutely nothing to do with textures as people normally associate with the word detail. That sort of thing.
I still use all my original CD's for all my 90's games. They still play just fine. I'm not about to pay for them again. I miss the days of buying a disc for a new game. What I don't miss is playing without mods. So, I've made some adjustments. However, Steam is the currently accepted platform. So, I'll pass on any game NOT available on Steam. In defense of nylon... There are rip stop nylon weave fabrics that are super tough and durable, more so than any natural fiber including canvas. However, Bethesda did not go for a durable fabric of any kind. They opted to use the absolute cheapest, most flimsy fabric they could find to substitute for the time honored, much loved canvas that was promised.
This genuinely makes me wonder how many times Bethesda has to blatantly disrespect its fan base before they say enough is enough and stop buying their games. I have never bought a Bethesda game at drop date. They can’t seem to do that right the first time either, which is something you guys should’ve mentioned.. great video 💯
@@harvey8869 3 got a touch more interesting map. that's it. in every other way Vegas is superior. it's got better skill system, interesting and well written chatacters, more interesting and diverse dialogue tree, skill-dependant speech checks, better main and side quests that actually influence the ending, it doesn't force you into a pretty much pre-made character of a vault-dweller with daddy issues, it doesn't have giant holes in world building for the sake of cheap fanservice. it is better in every way that matters
Played my very first Skyrim play through in 2020 on a ps3 slim without doing any Skyrim updates so playing the basic version, didn’t experience a single ‘game breaking’ bug, experienced many normal bugs that was pretty minor, eventually updated and bought some dlc’s, started experiencing some very bad bugs lol
Skyrim on PS3 was my introduction to The Elder Scrolls series 😅. Since I had never experienced PC, or good framerates before in a PS3 game. I didn't think anything of it. Now, I can never go back 😂.
K-Watte Entertainment Studios I remember me and my friends played New Vegas on PS3 and at one point the game literally ran at 1 frame a second for a good 20 minutes before finally crashing.
@@jonusaguilar8156 I played NV on my PS3 twice and even started a third playthrough. Playthrough 1 and 2 were completely fine, minus a couple non-game breaking bugs. However, as they patched the game and released DLC, I experienced the same thing where the framerate would drop and completely crash and become unplayable. It seems like it was fine before they "started fixing it". Something similar happened with Fallout 3 on my PS3 where the expansion would crash on the Slim version, but I still had my fat PS3 and when I hooked that one back up, transferred my saves over, it ran without any problems on the older hardware.
@@ScottLHowe Ha, played Fallout 3 and New Vegas on the PS3. Had to play with autosaves turned off because it greatly reduced the crashes. Note I said reduced. Funny enough Skyrim worked really well compared to the Fallout games.
@@acewolfgang276 I waited until the GOTY edition for Skyrim on the PS3. I didn't have any problems with it until I did the vampire expansion. Turning into a vampire lord (I forget what it was called) was a several minute process. I did it long enough to get all the vampire related trophies, then reloaded and stayed a werewolf instead of turning. Never had any problems during the werewolf transformation.
basically any of bethesdas merch, the canvas bag situation had to go to go court where a judge forced them to make canvas bags to give for anyone who pre ordered 76. they also had issues with the power armor helmets, where the fabric around the neck could start to grow mold and a bunch of them had to be recalled
I think the best part of the fallout canvas bag thing was they actually sent out canvas bags to influencers for free but the people who paid for them got nylon.
What type of game would they even make? I see falcon being rather nit picky about everything so I suspect whatever kind of game they make it will take way longer with him on the dev team. But it would be highly polished to the point you'd need sunglasses just to look at it.
When you change your passion for glory sorry for money I mean come on some of the best games I played was by them I want more of it get back on the track
I'm not sure if horse armor is really that bad. I may have bought it myself. I don't remember. But we got something similar in Skyrim with the Hearthfire DLC. You still had to buy the land that you built your houses on and the materials to build said houses.
That's not what happens. Without the broken steel dlc the game ends there. You're not stuck because of a bug. It's just the end of the game. Later they opened the ending with broken steel and let you wander around the game world for as long as you want.
Yeah, I actually paused the video and scrolled down the comments to see if anyone had already called them out on that one. And TBH, I'm a bit worried I had to scroll down so long...
True Hare Yeah I didn't see anyone else call them out on the mistake so I figured I'd say something. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that caught that mistake.
The horse armor was bad, but not just cosmetic, it significantly boosted horse hp, and also 500 gold is pocket change so you do not exactly have to labor for it, and like you said you get one set free anyway.
Looking up the game, it looks interesting. Well the history Prey (2006) doesn't look like my cup of tea. Turns out it was worked on on and off since 1995. So far it looks like Prey 2017 followed Prey 2006 since it followed the same idea of being a survival horror fps compared to Prey 2 which looked more action focused. I do wonder one thing, what is the identity of Prey?
Honestly after all of the 76 stuff (I’d recommend watching internet historian’s video on it) it’s gonna take a serious amount of improvement and getting-shit-together-ness for me to have any confidence in Bethesda again. As far as I’m concerned, Todd Howard is a professional scammer.
@Ricardo Santos I doubt it'll have loot boxes, quite frankly that's the least of my worries. I'm worried that I'm going to be the chosen one again in a story that I make zero important decisions throughout, while fighting or sneaking my way through a god awful combat system.
I remember I had Skyrim Legendary Edition on the PS3 and I encountered a game breaking bug that somehow activated noclip and removed my ability to interact with the vertical axis.
I remember buying Daggerfall. At the time it came out the technology was rapidly advancing. They had tons of patches to fix the game. The graphics at the start of the game are totally different than the end. It is funny. I remember it taking forever to download all the fixes. Most of the patches and fixes were at least 2 - 3 megs. At the time that was huge. Especially across a 56k modem. lol
My favourite Bethesda moment was during the canvas bag thing when they accidentally doxxed hundreds of customers by making their personal and shipping information show up in every other canvas bag receiver's account inbox
paid mods won't stop free mods in Bethesda games. anyone that thinks this is a moron. Even Fallout 76 has free mods, and it doesn't even have official mod support.

That’s coming from a hard core fan of the RPG fallout games.
I'm in the same boat, save that I do still come back to FO4 periodically and love it. I'm hoping against hope the next FO game is better, but yeah, never bought 76 and don't imagine I ever will. I'll be keeping an eye on the franchise but after all this BS I will never pre-order again.
You spent almost 6 full months playing FO3? 3 full months in NV I've put hundreds of hours into these games, weeks even but hell naw.... 6 months... That's really sad.
Darrel Gordon it’s not really sad I was much younger when FO3 came out and I had the time to put into it growing up over quite a few years. It was a game that changed my perspective on what video games could be and led me to be a huge fan of the fallout series. Now you can see why I’m so disappointed in the franchise.
4000 hours in F3? Dude im playing WoW since release and don't even have half of that. What is there to do? I believe I finished it in about 50 hours and never came back. Around 10 hours for F4, cuz it's trash, too. Lol
Dude, the red version of fallout 76’s collectors helmets were recalled due to... I believe dangerous mold. The material of the neck part housed mold more effectively or some shit. While minimal numbers were distributed, it’s potentially health threatening and this info came out AFTER the canvas bag bull shit.

1. Fallout 76, Bethesda's biggest disaster!
Damn fucking right not preording ever again going wait for before you buy to review it
76 made me lose all faith in Bethesda from now until 2077. Get crackin', B
The hilarious part? FO76 is still kicking Anthem's ass.
Giovanni Carpentier - Graphic Design they have gone downward ever since the release of Fallout New Vegas, which is their last respectable game, which is also isnt even developed by Bethesda. Fallout 4's game design is insulting, Fallout 76 is, well let's just say I'm not going to pre order Starfield and the next Elder scroll game.
Not letting obsidian much time for fallout new Vegas
The thing with the guy who got banned from Fallout 76 for having too much ammo is getting pretty common now. Digital Extreme is doing the same with Warframe, where people who are grinding the same level for hours get banned for ending the level with too much resources
it wouldn't surprise me, if 'host migration' errors were just a button pushed to delete progress for the nuts who grind for hours.
Gameranx: "what's one of the worst things Bethesda has done?"
Bethesda: "yes"
Do a top 10 blizzard, top 20 Ubisoft, top 50 Activision, top 100 EA.
The only glaring mistake I see in blizzard is that bullshit Diablo immortal. Made me so mad. "Do y'all not have phones?"
Yes you incompetent fuck, we also have microwaves but we don't fucking cook filet mignon in them.
Wait did ubisoft did any mistake ? I dont remember much..
I was done with bethesda in 2015 when they tried monetize mods on steam.
After that they never saw my money again
was that really that long ago?
Keep your money from Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI, im sure those will be monetized mmos. Because Bethesda has been trying to pull those off since that football game they made i think
Good bye Bethesda, hello Ubisoft
Bestheda wasn't my fav dev studio anymore.
but CDPR came to succeed in its place
@@tiago9877 CDPR has almost no games its not wise to respect them so much.
Well done. Interesting info.
"16 times the detail" will haunt me forever
The worst thing Bethesda continues to do is NOT UPGRADE TO A LESS BUGGY ENGINE. Seriously, quit using the creation engine. Upgrade, dammit.
Try using the Unity engine to make the next Skyrim ill wait
@@hypocriticalsatire3966do you not grasp the fact that they have time and money while the person you commented to does not have those resources to the extent an entire company has? and we are already waiting for them to upgrade to something better
@@TheReZisTLust
Do you know what an engine is. Its not the engine thats an issue, their bug checking and programming is. Its not fucking old either any one complaining on how prehistoric it is just doesnt understand development at all. If that logic applied to everything, GTA Vs engine would be technically old too, but it doesnt look bad or buggy does it. Creating a engine is time-consuming and expensive. They already have the Creation Engine to improve (which they are for Starfield and ES6). Its like looking at someone making a mediocre cake and going "why dont you like, mix the cake with a new whisk instead of that 2 year old one, it would taste better" when its not the equipment thats the issue but rather the cook reading/making the recipe.
@@hypocriticalsatire3966 Because creation engine and RAGE (the engine used in GTA V) have nothing in common, the last one has been updated and almost remade while the other one just had some fixes.
Umm they are making a new engine? 76 was the last creation engine game.
Honorable mention:
Fallout 4’s season pass price increase from $30 to $50. Then stopping abruptly with DLC once Nuka World was announced.
I'd like the fallout 76 jacket to the list. Looks like a blue trash bag...
@@ladwarcoffee except there's no controversy with that. it looks exactly as they sold it. it just looks bad.
@@StygianIkazuchi but have you have really see any coverage of it. It was a mistake to sell it
I remember seeing that the pass was about to increase and immediately bought the season pass at 30 which made me feel much better over the value overall. But raising that price to 60 really made it not worth it
Nehtiyalyr that is true. And I completely agree that the workshop stuff was absolute bullshit. But I, at least personally, felt like the three story DLC’s were worth my 30 dollars. Of course I can understand not feeling the same
I like how stock image Xander Corvus just appears at 5:15
The horse armor wasn't only cosmetic, it increased your horses health. But carry on.
Err.... no they didnt, but even if they did it's still now ok. Shame too.
What Bethesda wants you to forget:
Basically everything they’ve done in the last few years.
more like a decade + 4 years
EP1CNELSON also yes
10+ years.
oh but skyrim guys, you know you like skyrim!! as a favor to the fanbase we are gonna have a remake on next gen consoles with fun little paywalls to make you appreciate your play time more, and Todd Howard assures this version of skyrim will have 16 times the detail
@@ahwue123 I mean, Skyrim is cool. But the game was also made almost a decade ago, not to mention many games took Skyrims best features and improved upon it over those years.
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside doesn't it? That's some EA shit right there...
Even better is that the game was in a nearly finished state, too. iirc one of the devs said it was pretty much complete. Makes me even more angry; it sounded like an amazing game and I'm furious we'll never get to see it. With luck, the coding is still on some drive somewhere with one of the devs, but...
@@sevenlexar Bullshit. The more I hear about these top tier game companies the more I don't want to buy their shit. Problem is, they have me suckered in on some franchises because they used to be good. I just started Oblivion after not touching it for over a decade, and holy shit I forgot how awesome it was. I'll buy the next Elder Scrolls game because I have too, but I should not have to be pissed off about it like I'm going to be, knowing I gave those fucking slimeballs my hard earned money. I would prefer a pirated copy but that's just not worth the effort these days unless you're a pro, with all the mods and shit you have to do. Greed is tearing this world apart.
Wait, they made Quite Man? So Prey 2 could have been an absolute crapfest of a game. not saying that excuses Bethesda actions, but saying, realistically, maybe the game was going to suck ass anyways. Plenty of games LOOKED cool before release and came out godamn awful.
@@TheExplosiveGuy I feel the same way about fucking E.A. i want to play and like Star wars fallen order. But i don't want to buy it. I don't want to give E.A a penny or satisfaction
i’ve been playing elder scrolls blades since it was in open beta testing, and it’s honestly really fun.
keep in mind, i’m on a jail broken device, and bethesda for some reason keeps all their iAP’s offline, not through a server. so i’ve “spent” over $6k in that game without actually spending a dime of real money.
You forgot the best part about the canvas bag. After hearing the complaints about it, bethesda decided to give the people that bought the bag 500 atoms to use in the atomic shop. Which is equal to $5
At the start - "yeah you will totally be able to play FO76 as single player"
On release - "hahahaha nope".
That whole conference had coded language. They said you could play 'solo', meaning you be wandering around alone in their online environment with 23 other players. The game thing goes for their 16x the detail, for distance landscapes specifically and absolutely nothing to do with textures as people normally associate with the word detail. That sort of thing.
its been atleast half a year bethesda. wheres the cheat mode for the people who like to make their own characters? WHERED THE RP IN RPG GO BETHESDA?
If Bethesda had 1 year to erase all our memories of it'd be this year 😂
I still use all my original CD's for all my 90's games.
Doesn't help that the press material for that collector's edition also said the bag was canvas.
I still think the Gamestop exclusive replica T51 helmet with the bonus Sludge Lung addition., is pretty good one. 👍
Adding to the condition of Skyrim on the PS3, remember how we had to wait almost a year after pc and xbox to get the dlcs? Fun times

Doom is *2 years *younger than Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sorry my dudes but that bugged the shi out of me.
Yea, me too. Sonic the Hedgehog came out in 1991. Sonic 3 came out in 1993.
Yup doom came out December 93
Turning into a vampire lord (I forget what it was called) was a several minute process. basically any of bethesdas merch, the canvas bag situation had to go to go court where a judge forced them to make canvas bags to give for anyone who pre ordered 76. they also had issues with the power armor helmets, where the fabric around the neck could start to grow mold and a bunch of them had to be recalled
I think the best part of the fallout canvas bag thing was they actually sent out canvas bags to influencers for free but the people who paid for them got nylon.
What a spit in the face to normal people haha

Gameranx should make a game
What type of game would they even make? I see falcon being rather nit picky about everything so I suspect whatever kind of game they make it will take way longer with him on the dev team. But it would be highly polished to the point you'd need sunglasses just to look at it.
Theyd probably barely get their game to mobile game tier quality. Developing games isnt easy.

I'm not sure if horse armor is really that bad. I may have bought it myself. I don't remember. But we got something similar in Skyrim with the Hearthfire DLC. You still had to buy the land that you built your houses on and the materials to build said houses.
How about "Didn't release an actual Elder Scrolls game this entire console generation"? I think that'd be a mistake they'd frantically want forgotten.
Having your character trapped in the f3 purefier because of an autosafe and forcing people to buy the broken steal dlc
That's not what happens. Without the broken steel dlc the game ends there. You're not stuck because of a bug. It's just the end of the game. Later they opened the ending with broken steel and let you wander around the game world for as long as you want.
Ah Falcon, always almost 100% accurate. Still love this bird
The Skyrim glitches. but tbh they are quite entertaining. I just LOVED it when Kharjo's shadow was replaced with a moving pickaxe
Ah yes, the great duffel kerfuffle! No one will ever forget that!

Prey Reboot is much better than original Prey.

I remember buying Daggerfall. At the time it came out the technology was rapidly advancing. They had tons of patches to fix the game. The graphics at the start of the game are totally different than the end. It is funny. I remember it taking forever to download all the fixes. Most of the patches and fixes were at least 2 - 3 megs. Not having npcs in fallout 76 and trying to cover it by saying they r all moving in now
They were unfront with no NPCs from the start. But they were pretty savvy by saying the first year was basically day one.

I've put hundreds of hours into these games, weeks even but hell naw.... 6 months... That's really sad.
