      The PS EVO uses the K12 fans. Those are the RGB variant and redesign of the B12's. Which are much higher quality and of a higher RPM+static pressure; that should improve performance over the OG/SE with stock C12's.

    I would add that certain air coolers are capable of dealing with much more than 320W just not with these consumer grade CPUs.
    The Noctua NH-U14S DX-4677 was able to handle over 700W watts with a 56 core Xeon processor because the chip and the IHS are much larger so more surface for heat dissipation.
    The Threadripper and Epyc CPUs are even larger.
    The Icegiant Prosiphon Elite is not a standard air cooler but it managed to cool a 96 core Threadripper at 1000 watts!!

    What? Are you only now reviewing this cooler? I was sure you already did ages ago. Anyway I've had this and the heatsink is VERY GOOD. The fans however, both didn't last more than a few months before making all sort of unbearable noises.
    The newer (Phantom Spirit) PS120 / PS120 SE / PS120 SE ARGB are all at a very close price to the PA120 SE and just slightly better.
    There's also an even newer Phantom Spirit 120 Evo that looks absolutely badass, it's quite expensive for my country but I believe in the States it can be bought for $43~50, absolutely worth it.

    For those who don't know, Thermalright isn't a new brand. Back in the early 2000's they were the Noctua of air cooling, top notch. So as someone who knew them as they were I wasn't shocked they would succeed today. I recently installed this heatsink on a build I did and it's good, but the build quality is noticeably less than the Noctua NHD15, the GOAT, which I have a lot of experience with. I'd say the PA is good value for the money.

      The differences between both are minimal:
      The SE is kind of a "budget" version of the PA 120.
      The "non SE" version has dampened fans with braided cables, a solid top plate so that the heat pipe ends are hidden, has 3 fins more on each tower (53 instead of 50) and is 2mm higher (157mm instead of 155mm).
      Oh, and the box is not just brown with minimalist print.
      In the grand scheme of things the changes are mostly aesthetic and don't impact cooling in any meaningful way.

Yep, it is a great cooler, but the fans are awful, they produce a weird orchestra of strange rythmic sounds above 40% and below that there is that weird low frequency vroom. At 70% there is a resonance point, fortunately enough it is in a narrow band of speeds and not present at 65% or 75%. All in all, this is a great cooler with 1 or 2 P12s.

    This cooler with a slightly adjusted curve is completely inaudible and has crazy performance

    I just returned one of these to Amazon because of VERY poor quality. For Intel, they are supposed to have 3 alignment holes for the mounting screws that align the screws for the Tower cooler. My brackets just had two slots and no alignment holes. I could not eyye it to make it work, the tollerances are two close. I bought a similar cooler 2 years ago and had no problem. This is a cvommon problems with Chinese quality after time. The company moves on to the next thing and quality, support and reliablity starts to fade. And of course, it came with no insdtructions and the online copy was in Chinese only.

    1. You don't mention what the ambient temp. is (not here and not in past written reviews). Performance across the board will vary when ambient is 20 C vs 30 C. Worse, if your ambient temp. varies year round, then your data collected in winter time is not comparable to that collected in the summer.
    2. I see on sts-tutorial/review that on 05-Aug-2023 you introduced a "_new CPU Cooler Benchmark Machine featuring 3 different Workloads at 320, 250, and 120W_" but I wasn't able to find any useful details about this load. How are those W determined? Is it a power limited CPU pushed to 100% on all cores? If so, which one and how are the 100% load and power limit applied and verified?
    Your current data gives some idea about how coolers compare to each other but the control you have on your tests seems pretty amateurish.

    I guess price are different for every country, I managed to buy a pa120 se directly from the chinese supplier on a sale day and it cost me only 18 dollars, I can't even buy a noctua fan with that price, somehow there are still people who think that noctua is good, yeah right good for taking money from brainless buyers who pay more for literally nothing that is

  • @bulevartz
    @bulevartz Před 4 měsíci

    It's common sense you have to be an idiot to pay for a piece of metal and plastic called fan 100$...You buy for an example 350$.. 7800x3d which took years, decades, to develop such a cpu.,and yet we had fans almost 100 years ago.

    Super cheap crap, you’ll end up replacing the fans anyway so the value proposition is not that good

    • @kinzie3915
      @kinzie3915 Před 7 měsíci

      Even after replacing the fans, it still costs 40% of the 120€'s NH-D15 or similar. Just because fans are not best quality doesn't mean the whole cooler is "Super cheap crap".

      fwiw anecdotally my thermalright fans have been fine for 3 years and counting. Even if the fans do go though, the cooler uses regular fan clips, so it wouldn't be difficult to replace the fans anyway
