    my neighbour who moved to care home at age around 93 is still alive today. he must be close to 100 years old. i asked him his secret.. He said a clove of garlic a day.. I mowed part of his lawn so bees could have some dandilions.. i was cutting and strong smell of garlic came. i thought it was like a grass or weed. it was his old garlic gardens spread with thousands of plants now.. My friend said when my garlic in garden is ready to pull them.. neighbor said take all i want. now they still have two months i think till my garlic is ready. i will then pull 1000 out and dry them and plant in oct when ready.. God is good supplying needs for those who love him

      @@oneofakind6313 Yes and no. It sounds like you are for sure dealing with the bulbils, I have some that are starting their 3rd year they should be ready for harvest this time around. I have read (but not experienced) that they could be ready by the end of the second season. They will still grow if close together but may not get as big as they might if spaced apart. I would harvest normal time where you live, dry and cure (see my other garlic videos) and replant in the fall with specific spacing, you might be good to eat them next year! Best of luck thanks for watching the video, feel free to ask more ? as they arise

    Hey.
    Im in western Australia and i planted last month, both the bulbils and bulbs of garlic that we didnt harvest last year. Mum was meant to harvest the bulbs she planted but last sight of and then they flowered and so was not harvested.
    Well now as i mostly broard casted them, between some cauliflower.
    The garlic is planted with broccoli between rows.
    I was thinking of planting the bulbs of the bulbils next year as my main crop.
    Also the seeds would have more genetic variation in them and not the same as the cloves planting... Love the video 😊

      Hi very cool story , thank you for sharing and for watching the video. I have lost track of my bulbils before (when they dry up they can disappear) only to have them voluteer the following year, now I seem to have some voluteers every year....love garlic. Best of luck

    Without garlics, I can't do any cooking. I was a very successful garlic grower until I moved to central Florida. The FL' s sandy soil and heat make it too difficult to grow good quality garlics.

    • @EasyGardenHacks
      @EasyGardenHacks  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi lily, I love cooking with garlic it ends up in many dishes. Sorry to hear growing where you are now is proving difficult. I am not sure if there are varieties that are better suited for your conditions? Sandy soil can be changed with adding ammendments (we had very sandy soil that I have been adding composted horse maueur to for years) but hot temperatures cant be controlled . Hopefully you have a good source of garlic somewhat near by.

      Try elephant garlic. It is a leek that looks and tastes like a giant garlic plant and does better in the south

    Some healthy looking garlic there! What type of garlic are you growing?
    Currently I'm building up my seed supply of Spanish roja...I planted 85 plants but only 83 came up. Im really looking forward to harvest time!

    • @EasyGardenHacks
      @EasyGardenHacks  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi yes they seem to be doing very well so far this year. I am growing "Music" variety. There might be a bit of "Red russian" as well.
      The Spanish roja looks really nice!! I should consider different strains but have had so much success with the music I just keep cycling it year after year.
      Thats great you got 80+ in this year, depending on your goals you can increase it quite a bit from there or feast away.
      Thanks for the comment keep me posted on how it turns out!

    Good stuff! Thanks for sharing. Are you going to walk us through what you're going to do with the bulbils? I will give it a try if it takes 2 years to get a solid garlic bulb but if is 3 years to get a good bulb that seems a bit too long. Regarding your mature garlic they look great! I was wondering how your template would work

    • @EasyGardenHacks
      @EasyGardenHacks  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi thanks for checking back in. I will walk you through what I do with the bulbils in the fall. I plan to keep posting for the amount of time it takes to get them to full size.
      I hear you on the time it takes. I am hoping for 2 years but I have read 2-3. What I have found is that each season seems to go by pretty fast. I cant believe I started with only 5lbs a bunch of years ago and just kept at it. What you are seeing is over 1000 in the ground now and that can if I am able (space time etc) quadruple in another year. But the bulbils are about scaling up in the future and from what I have read (not confirmed) it helps the longevity of your garlic strain. Although I dont see my current crop I keep recycling getting bad soon. I might end up with a great problem to have...too much garlic!! if there is such a thing. Have a good one.

    How long time to take for garlic to be harvest?

    • @EasyGardenHacks
      @EasyGardenHacks  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi I plant the garlic in November and harvest in July so about 9 months, I live in a climate with a winter and snow so I plant before the winter to give the garlic a head start. It is also possible to plant in the spring (March/April) and harvest July, they tend to be smaller though.
