  • A couple of weeks ago, a few of the modules from Erica Synths joined the VCV collection, and one of them is the Black Octasource, a very unique LFO with multiple phase outputs, different waveshapes, and other beautiful features. In this video, I go through all of its features and build a couple of patches utilizing them.

Oh yes, this was a great moment. I sometimes lean forward when a big move is about to be audible. I leaned forward and I was rewarded with an "Oh Baby". Omri makes me so happy.

This LFO is showing up at my house *any minute* . This video is so good--makes me even more excited to get this and play with it. Thanks again, Omri for making it understandable and showing us the possibilities. Now I need 3 of them. LOL

I really appreciate these videos. Many people probably were already aware of that trick, but using the S & H to modulate the ADSR decay and delay feedback to accentuate the high notes was new to me. Very cool!

Thanks, Sean! Well, what I've used here is essentially the pitch information, which in this case, comes from the S&H, but you can also do this with sequencers for example. If you send the same signal you use for pitch information to modulate something, then the higher the notes, the more voltage comes out, the more modulation. You can try this also with a filter cutoff point to make the filter track the pitch.

I really need to keep my audio recorder on while I watch these. There would be a simultaneous chorus of me saying "Whoa!" in tandem while @Omri Cohen says "Oh yessss!"

Cheers, Denis! Yes, it's very similar to the 8FO, and both have different features so they can add different things to a patch.

Thankyou, Omri for the great content. I Joined Pateron and am still trying to get Discord to cooperate. You have so much content, I am challenged where to start. I have been producing Synthwave for past 2 years with 5 Albums on Spotify :) but want to expand into more longer Ambient Tracks and VCV rack seems the way to go as FL Studio is at least right now not the tool for this and from what I have seen VCV rack 2 with Generative music seems right.

Hi Omri, I have a question about the second patch.A beginner question, I should add :). When you start modulating the voice coming out of Chebyshev, you added a VCA to add more decay and delay to the higher note, but intuitively I thought that by controlling the intensity of VC received by Black Octasource with the VCA you would actually "let pass" only the lower notes not the higher note. Can you please explain why that's not the case? Thanks! :)
