Police investigate homicide in Strathcona Park

At approximately 7:40 a.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, we responded to reports of an incident outside an elementary school in the 300 block of Strathcona Drive S.W. One woman was declared deceased at the scene in what is believed to be a targeted incident.
One elementary school and one preschool were put into lockdown as a precaution and parents of the students have been notified. It is not believed any staff or students were at risk at any time.
Investigators remain on scene to speak with witnesses and to gather additional information. The suspect was located nearby deceased and there is no risk to the public.
It is believed the incident is domestic in nature. We will not be releasing the identity of the deceased even after completion of the autopsy to protect the privacy of the family.
This was a very traumatic event that occurred in a public place. Our Victim Assistance Support Team is engaged and is heading to the scene to speak with anyone who may be impacted by this incident.
