Liverpool 0-1 Everton, League Cup 1987 (Amazing Sharp miss)

- The moment where Graeme Sharp misses an open goal comes at 4:56. Liverpool's record at Anfield in Cup matches was formidable - they had lost only one of their last 101 ties there. So, although they were the league champions, Everton knew that many people saw them as underdogs to win this Merseyside derby. Martin Tyler is the commentator.
Back when the League Cup really mattered and there was a real atmosphere at football.
What a fantastic team that was. Goals from everywhere, even the fullbacks could score goals as good as the strikers....
Go Toffees !! Here from Brazil with Everton FC.
When Everton were the Best!..I dream of these times again!!..
ROBERT DEAN oh shut up redshite
Liverpool still more successful than Everton even in their best time haha. Truly the blueshite
@@CoolDude-jp1kj That's true they still couldn't beat us in 86 & 89 Fa Cup finals which matted to them.
The city of Liverpool is by far the most successful city in english football’s history 👌🏻💯
huh....what...how many PLs has Manchester...ludicrous, unresearched and incorrect comment. Stand in the corner.
This is the only match I've been to at Anfield, amazing memories and a fantastic win for the Blues but we lost a few days later against Liverpool in the league 😕
Some boss tackles flying in back in them days. Players from either team now would be crying like fuck.
Is it just me or was football a much faster game back then??
Remember watching this on the big screen at Goodison
Everton deserved this win were by far the better team and normally lethal like that goal of the season he scored v Liverpool but sharpe was much under par in this game with 2 missed sitters which would of made the score look more what it should of been,
I'd forgotten about this win, a measure of "revenge" for the defeat at Goodison in January of the same year in the same competition; though it didn't stop our steady decline, from which we haven't really recovered, and certainly didn't set us up for that ever-elusive League Cup win. Still, great memories to see an Everton team, despite being past their mid-80s best, capable of going toe-to-toe at Anfield. Maybe this coming season, after 20 years, we'll finally get a win there again...
I was at this game!
At 2:00 I'm baffled why Everton was given an indirect free kick instead of a penalty.....someone explain as that would never happen today
Love Everton FC we are Brilliant 💙💙💙💙
To date Everton have never ever lost a cup tie at Anfield in our history. In five visits over there in cup competitions and we've won 2 and drew 3.
FA Cup 3rd round, January 2018; Liverpool 2-1 Everton.. Van Dyke scoring the winner on his debut...
@@lukeslevin3203 when he posted that comment in 2017 it was true, smart arse!
Haha not anymore fella. Now you've lost twice
@@numsig Chill kiddo
@@CoolDude-jp1kj All things have to come to an end in football....just like Liverpool's unbeaten home record in derbys since 99 mate. :)
That really was an amazing miss.
Martin Tyler got that wrong about Everton not winning any of the previous seasons meetings they won 2-0 at Anfield
85 86 season yes everton won 2 0 lineker getting the winner i think
This was season 87-88, Everton didn’t win any derbies in 86-87 but did win the league title
Have Everton ever won the double or even a league cup lmfao
Back when players could actually leather a football (Graeme Sharp excepted) not like the weak, pass back to the keeper shots you get today. Players can't shoot in the game today.
2:56 That wasn't that bad, what's he talking about an amazing miss
4:55 Ohhhhhhh
Everton are the best
We all know
0 trophies this century. Yes they really are lmfao
I make that three catastrophic misses by Sharp, and one quite bad one. Not his night.
Yes, this is something of which the Evertonians should be ashamed. But that was sadly the order of the day back then. In the XXIst century most teams have outgrown these silly habits, with Liverpool being a notable exception. How Liverpool stood by a racist like Suarez is a testimony to this club's dubious ethos. And let us not forget the incident involving Oldham's Adeyemi at Anfield. These incidents did not take place in the previous century but the present one.
Oh get a grip you clown
I was at Anfield when Liverpool fans were informing John Barnes to get back on his jam jar whilst still playing for Watford. They can never take the moral high ground with Everton. Although they do try.
Why Carnt these days come back again bad pre-season
I love the pace at which this game was played. You wouldn't get a game like that now.
back when Everton Had a genuinely great team, to rival Liverpool. Now they're shite.
Yes 1984 to 91 they were brilliant side
The gulf has widened way too much between the few mega rich clubs and the rest of the Premiership. (Only Leicester city bucked the trend a few years ago.) It will never be the same, sadly. The game has been ruined in the last 20-25 years by money and far too many imported foreigners who have no roots or identify with the club or the fabric of the city (of that club). I supported Liverpool as a kid growing up in the '80's, but to me now, they could be just another European team; about the only thing that hasn't changed is they still play in red and still play at Anfield. Have a soft spot for that Everton team - deserved they're win here and also wrecked Liverpool's dreams of beating Leeds UTD's record of 29 games undefeated, later that season. The DVD they recently brought out 'Howard's Way' is the best football DVD I've ever seen. Great characters. Great times.
