  • We left Universal Studios with 10 buses. On our way back to Fontana we encountered 4 separate incidents slowing us down:
    1. 3 of 4 lanes closed on the southbound 101 freeway in Hollywood for road construction. We couldn't take the 134 because on ramps in the area we're closed for construction.
    2. #3 lane of southbound 101 freeway closed at the 4-level interchange for construction
    3. #4 lane closure eastbound 10 freeway from Temple City exit to Garvey in El Monte for construction.
    4. the icing on the cake. Full freeway CLOSURE for a SIGALERT that did not show on Google maps. All lanes exited at Holt Ave in Covina. Then all the buses had to take side streets north to the 210 freeway and east to Fontana.
    5. hit major fog and reduced visibility from Mountain Ave in Upland exit east to Fontana on the 210 freeway. .

Was this scheduled as a drop & return? Or 1 long excursion

It was a drop and return. A contractor took students over earlier in the day. We did the return.
It was a crazy return. We couldn't take the 134 east because several on ramps were closed for construction. So we were instructed to take the 101 south to the 10, 10 east to the 15 and 15 north to our school. We were also instructed to convoy, that way if a bus broke down, we could help by taking a few students... We had 2 spare buses on the trip to cover breakdowns too. One for each high school.
It was a great plan, road construction and closures just messed it up. The last one was so new that is wasn't coming up on Google Maps. After we were stopped, we were able to read about the Sigalert on the CHP CAD and we were done. After getting off the freeway and detouring to the 210. My group needed a restroom break. 20 minutes later we were back on the road.
