Girl, I feel for this line. I freaking appreciate animation as an art and NOT just "kids bate" People turn down animation ALOT and its really sad to see.
I got into a whole argument with a man in his mid-40s about this. I was watching COCO, which is undoubtedly beautiful and lovely in all ways, and he kept scoffing at it simply bc it’s animated, and he wouldn’t even try to watch it with me 🙄 there were many qualities about him that I knew didn’t jive with me but like... that part has always stuck out to me

Some stuff you might miss:
Whenever Mother Gothel shows Rapunzel any affection, she's actually showing it to her hair.
In contrast, when Eugene does the same thing, he actually pushes her hair away from her face.

Mother Gothel only ever showed affection to Repunzel's hair. If you notice, especially during 'Mother knows best', she pats her head, kisses her hair, and caresses it, whereas Eugene pushes it away from her face to see her several times throughout the movie. Also, when the lanterns are released, they are released along a winding road that looks like her hair as it begins to glow from the roots, as she begins to discover where she's really from and where she belongs.

There's an interesting fact about how Eugene was created, I'll quote it from the blog coz I'm lazy asf lol
"Basically, the taped pictures of Hollywood's most attractive stars around a room and then called in female employees that worked in the animation building. The job of these females was to tell the animators what features they liked and didn't like about each star. Then, the animators came up with hundreds of potential drawings depicting Flynn Rider. In some he looked like a bodybuilder with long hair, while in others he was rather scrawny. These animators had thought of almost every possible combination of handsome features for a male character. Then, they brought the female employees back to analyze the drawings. Using the input from these women, the animators finally created a character that had warm, brown eyes to match his brunette hair (which, according to the women, made him seem less egotistical), was toned but not too muscular, and had a little bit of facial hair to give him a slight edge."

The door opening scene is really good to analyse actually:
They open the door the first time when it’s dark outside (represents their life without her), with the lantern (representing her) being their only source of light, or hope.
The second time they open the door, instead of the lantern (hope) holding her place, it’s actually her and it’s no longer dark outside (represents happiness).
In both scenes she is the source of light, first as the lantern in the darkness and then as herself during the day (also notice how important the sun is throughout the movie, yeah, that’s her).
why is the fact that ash was genuinely having fun and laughing during the movie, make me so happy🥺 i love seeing her enjoying herself.
