  • In this video I will show you two different ways to cut a 4x4 board without the use of a miter saw. Instead you will be using a circular saw and a hand saw. Both methods will help you make smooth, accurate cuts.

      Lol, first world problems. Not enough space for a permanent work table. So I cut away on my rickety table on wheels.

      I recently acquired a wonderful Japanese pull saw. I actually bought it so I wouldn't scare my cats in the evening when they are sleeping. 😊 The moment I used it to cut a corner of 1" plywood I was hooked. Very clean cut edge and fast.

    Superb quality throughout, easy to assemble. I found the saw to be highly accurate and a delight to use (I am a homeowner using this saw for various projects). I attached the saw to a folding mobile stand to save space and that works great czcams.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe as well. However, you have to be sure the saw is securely locking in position before collapsing the stand. I've had many of the brands over the years and have come to point where I only buy Bosch, the extra money is a small price to pay for the quality and ease of use. Treat yourself to the best.

    How can I do this cut with the circular saw on a 4×4 beveled? Thank you.

  • @eannelson247
    @eannelson247 Před 3 lety +1

    thanks for the tip. Quick question, why can you not just flip the 4x4 completely over and finish it with 2 cuts? Will it leave a bad cut or have a higher chance of kickback?

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před 3 lety +15

      You could do it that way. There just won't be a kerf "facing you" for the second cut. You have a greater chance of missing the exact mark, if that makes sense. When you do it the 3-cut method, you can line a kerf up by putting you blade in, then holding your square in place, then cutting. Each cut you would have a kerf to line your blade up with. Hope that makes sense.

    Hey, do you ever find that with the circular saw method, the edge where you cut ends up being just a tiny bit off, as in that the end is not totally flat, some part of it is just a little thicker. Does what I'm saying make sense lol? Because that's the problem I'm having rn

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před 2 lety

      That does happen somewhat with the circular saw method. It's hard to get it 100% perfect. Even if you line it up exactly in the kerf, by the time it runs all the way through it can be slightly off.

  • @georgebradley1672
    @georgebradley1672 Před rokem +1

    If you are sawing off a post already installed it's best (IMO) to finish with a hand saw.

  • @adamthewoodworker2571
    @adamthewoodworker2571 Před 2 lety +1

    Also, would you say you get a more accurate finish with the circular saw or the hand saw?

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před 2 lety +1

      I believe I can with the hand saw. Of course that is more work and not always feasible if you have tons of cuts to make.

    • @adamthewoodworker2571
      @adamthewoodworker2571 Před 2 lety +1

      @@fixitFlip yes, I tried the method of using circular saw to make the first cut, and then using the hand saw after. It was a much smoother result. I think I'm going to try, doing 1st cut with cirvular saw, then flip board in it's side, do second cut, and then finish with hand saw.

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před 2 lety

      @@adamthewoodworker2571 Yeah that would save you a little energy. What I like about just one cut with circular saw and one with hand saw is you are not flipping the board multiple times. But let me know how that method works for you.

    I don't understand when you said put the blade into the cut but don't pull the trigger yet or it might catch. Video time at 1:10

    • @fixitFlip
      @fixitFlip  Před rokem +1

      You want to put the blade into the kerf just to make sure it is lined up perfect. Then get your speed square in the correct position. Then pull the saw back so the blade is out of the kerf and pull the trigger. You don't want to pull the trigger with the blade actually IN the kerf. Does that make sense?
