That's why I bought a 2020 Lexus Gs 350.. It's ridiculous how cheap it is to maintain and will last forever
That’s a keeper as the new vehicles have untested deaigns
Got a es350 and a es330 daily both run flawless
Agreed i got a 20 rx350 for the reliable v6 and decent mileage for a suv. Car drives like a dream. Im less tired from long drives.
Generally BMW's are a better value proposition if you can do your own wrenching, as well as having a good Independent BMW mechanic to do the things you can't or don't want to do. Thanks to your videos I went with a 2020 X5 B58 without air suspension, and just the premium package and parking assistance package. I basically wanted to keep it simple. Love your channel and your work thank you!!
Awesome! You are right, the more a person can do by themselves simply is money in the pocket and you have a great combo in that X5
In the market GX460 Lexus glad it didn’t hit the list
Lexus lc500 is suchhhh a bang for the buck, give me that over any german car
It’s a beautiful car indeed, and reliable. What’s not to love about it?
Agreed! The latest versions of Audi and Merc vehicles are nowhere near as reliable as BMW.
Consumer Reports has BMW above Honda for reliability this year.
Yes that is the current trend
I appreciate your honesty about these potential money pits after warranty
Great video, as always! Thank you 🙏🙏
Thank you
Love your knowledge, research, and videos Mark! Keep em comin sir! 😎👍
Thanks so mucb
The Panamera is on a VW MSB platform. I wouldn’t say it’s a stretched out 911. It just looks that way.
Thanks for sharing. Certainly a different platform but going for the look of a stretched 911
Love the Beamers ❤ thank you Mark , have a great weekend! Cheers 🥂
Thank you, you also have a great weekend
I agree. If you buy a quality second hand car for the greatly depreciated value, then the difference between the money you paid and the money the first owner paid goes a long way in repair and maintainance. Combine that with expert reviews of second hand vehicles like this report, can result in a finacial gain.
wait, so mercedes, vw and audi are better?
Well…..
Owning 21 year E-Class. The most expensive repair bill in last 5 years was SBC Faulty and repaired and not replaced with new one for 300€.
No they are money pits after warranty
Better than what?
All German cars suck I’ve owned all these brands😂 get one you will see
Greetings from Melbourne Australia
My 1986 Porsche 928 still runs with over 200K miles. Maintenance & serviced by me.
Absolutely great if you can work on these cars yourself
Love to see that first Porsheeee handling speed bumps in the Walmart parking lot.😂
Can't believe the repair costs on some of these vehicles. Guess I'll keep my 98 Tacoma forever (back when Toyota stood for quality).
With the EVs there is a shortage of mechanics who even know how to work on them. One small minor fender bender and the insurance writes off the EV as a total loss as it is so hard to find anyone who knows how to fix them
That’s true. Experience is a little light
Great video Mark. Question for you: what is the best overall sports car, Toyota Supra with the B58 engine or the Nissan Z?
Hi Mark, time will tell on the quality, by most Z engines have been pretty solid and the worst thing Nissan ever did was go with the CvT in other models, hence the reputation. With that said, now that the Supra is available in both the amazing ZF auto AND manual, the Supra, is my pick, by a long shot.
Mark, you just made my dreams feel more real. Jaaaaaaagggggs weren't on this list. There's the risk that the OEM won't exist anymore, but a used XFR or F-Type seems like a realistic choice now. ;)
Yes indeed they are great. Not as bad as many people say. There is a cost to own, but more interesting than many competitive vehicles
@ECPP from what I've seen they are on par with Cadillac's better models. I don't think I would see much of a change in cost to own between an XFR (that you can still find with very low kms!) and my XTS
Would be cool if you did a video for toyota, hybrids included.
yes I did
Thinking about a pre-owned 340i or 440i... what's the highest amount of mileage you would feel comfortable purchasing, if you only planned on keeping it for 3-4 years?
I had a Panamera 4 2011 n traded it for a 19 A4. Best thing ive ever done. Maintenance is much easier to do but looking to the BMW next. Much easier access in some sorts and less layer under the vehicle. Almost 100k on my A4 after 2.5 years!
What are your thoughts on the bew Nazda CX-70? You rarely mention new cars. You usually wait for them to be on the road a bit.
My 325ix 2007 was broken from day 1.
Wow, and to think the 335 was even worse in that year
@ECPP yeah, whats the point of a new "luxury" car when things keep breaking all the time. Its beta testing on consumers.. thats what it is
@@kwazar6725 I've had my 2008 630i for 14 years and it's been fairly reliable.
U never talk about Lincoln. What would you rank the Lincoln Navigator from 0-10 sir.
I want to become a mechanic, and your videos really inspire me on how much money I will be able to make once I own my own shop, thx.
My 2006 Ford fusion has been great, only good cars last the test of time, hybrids aren't good long term.
Yes that’s true. Everything is great for a couple of years, but time truly tells the story of how good or bad a vehicle is.
Have you ever heard of Toyota Hybrids??? I drive one 14 years old with high milage. Just check your local marketplace for used Toyota hybrids. You will see people are selling their 200k plus miles Hybrids for crazy price!!!!
Im at 15 years on my 335d with the M57 diesel. Had to do a wheel bearing this month but fairly inexpensive to keep going. Did the brakes/rotors myself for $450 in parts last year. Probably drive it until the engine fails. Possibly go another 10 years.
Yes that’s a great engine but it’s the emissions equipment that can be a problem like the DEF heater tank, EGR, or DPF. Otherwise a solid engine with good performance
@@ECPP you could rip all that off and disable with a tune. Never be a problem again. You also get a significant bump in power. Close to 400whp /600tq plus better fuel economy.
I'd urge a warranty with a Panamera S. Great cars, but insure that any recalls have been done and don't buy one with the air ride suspension. Keep the drain lines open on any Porsche.
Great advice Thomas and I agree 100 percent. Usually the simpler the spec, the better you are for long-term ownership as all parts fail and this usually means pricey bits on a pricey luxury brand. Recalls and bulletins are a must to follow up on and while some of these items may be listed on a Carafe, a person really should go to NHTSA and run the vin for a summary of issues and complaints on your vehicle of choice.
Yeah.. Vrillon was spot on.
100 percent
what about a GLE 350 or its amg 53 variant
Car tips: Never go car shopping ... in the rain or the dark .. or in this case ....both. The average age of cars on the road are getting older. In a few years, what is on the road may look like ... Cuba. Yup, definitely a ... 50/50 chance on that probability. Cheers.
Haha yes Canada is the new Cuba
2023 Range Rover Sport coded P530 Uses the 4.4 Litre Twin Turbo N63 Engine from BMW Range Rover is Also using the B58 Too dunno which model though
Damn, looks like I’m in for some expensive times ahead with my x5 40i 😭.
Luxury does come at a cost
@@ECPP I’m one year in and so far I guess got a lucky. Only had the sunroof seal fail which was a $500 repair not covered under warranty.
Luckily no mechanical failures in the thousands.
Hoping I can get a few more years out of it without any mechanical failures 🤷♂️
Imagine owning a BMW XM for ten years…
onward....mortgage
Are these costs in USD or CAD?
US
All I can say is Toyota Toyota Toyota
Yes for now. Recent 3.4 is a bit of a mess though
N63 slight cost over b58 :p??
Yess
😂😂😂 BMW means Break MY WALLET 😂🤣😅
Haha nice
I must say, out of 17 BMW's, I only had issues with my E60 M5, but that the whole world experienced. Overall they are very reliable.
X5 means that it will break down 5x more often
Only concern would be the Air Suspension failing they are ridiculously expensive to fix should anything go wrong with them 😂
Still have and use our 2001 Infiniti G20 and 2002 Camry and the cost of maintenance between the two are quite different. Toyota wins 🎉
You remind me so much of John Travolta
Like your 666 average for the porsche
Haha yes indeed. What do you think about the 911 ?
As much as i like the porsche 911, they are in fact probably the most true sports car and have decent reliability i have been fortunate enough to drive a few of these almost hopped into one in 2015 but the maintenance schedule and parts scarred me out of buying one, so i bought another Bimmer i know there are some isssues with BMW but when it comes to the German brands i find that Benz is out of touch with there parts and service, and Audi is just a beefed up VW that still reverses engineered with the timming chain at the back of the motor gaurenteed to fail, have seen 3 friend buy an s5 when they were realeased each one had the same issue lsading to catastrophic engine failure that resulted in a complete loss
I also from the edmonton area and enjoy your reviews, knowledge is power especially for enthusiasts
When you sell something you want the customer to come back and buy a new one every 4 to 5 yrs. So you make more money!!!😂 just make it attractive, then you can sell it.
That’s the current business model for many OEMs
I don't live near the Autobahn, so why would I need a vehicle that goes more than 100 mph
N63 v8? Add 30k over 10 years
Im seeing a pattern here....
A common denominator
On this list, Tesla was the best car to own long term even beating Toyota and Honda, and this was only including the 1st gen Model S (2012-2015) which is possibly the least reliable Tesla. We are already on 4th gen Teslas. They have gotten only more reliable. Let that sink in.
Lol
Nice
16 k in 10 years what's the new one now
Great cars if you lease them, dump them like a bad habit when lease is done
Alternate Title: "Luxury Vehicles are More Expensive to Maintain".
You gotta pay to play
Landrovers ,jaguar are another money pit. Owning these would make me feel broke, they are all show-off vehicle, "hey, look at my fancy exotic car on the tow truck like it was last month
Mercedes benz expensive but you don't mentioned them
Well….
Not bad really. 2013 GLK350 4Matic
😡😡😡 Never Never Buy a German made car..Lease or Rent 👍👍👍
Nice
Or buy an older one in cash
No way, would I get a Porsche, audi BMW, Mercedes
How long has the RAM 1500 been made Still unreliable joke
A long time
...and dealers....😅
…right?
@@ECPP yep....✌
@@ECPP Yep

In summation, avoid any and all vehicles from German auto manufacturers along with Land Rover Jaguar (TATA motors) .......and Stellantis.
For reliability they always keep an owner on their toes
@@ECPP Think of the pleasure knowing that your fellow motorists will think, "wow, that person in that German turd box must have some big cash, willing to part with it for constant repairs and maintenance.
I appreciate your honesty about these potential money pits after warranty
Thanks for watching. Yes we all need to stick together in an effort to hold the junk manufacturers accountable
