  • I can't believe I have to identify 10 car brands that you should avoid, but today it feels like I do. The problem is, if you buy one you're likely to sell it within a year. Of course, I'm going to show you some stats but I'm also going to give you some of my opinions. I'll share why I think you're likely to send these car brands packing and why I think these car brands are the worst.

I HATE EVERY TOYOTAS AND LEXUSES (the newer models) don’t tell me get this Toyota or Lexus, nope 🙂‍↔️ I will not buy it one, firstly every Toyota 2.5s that’s are crappy engine (except the hybrids) oil burning and vibration like no tomorrow, water pump failure, timing chain tensioner failure, and coolant bypass pipe failure and also oil consumption and clogged the cats, and destroy the engine, over thousands of dollars to replace a new engine with 2.5s, the 2.7s head gaskets galore and transmission failures, and underpowered engine and oil leaking all over the place from on the front. Stay away from 2.7s if you want to value your money, the 5.7 3UR is the best the worst engine, the best one is reliability, the worst one it’s expensive to fix and replacing the whole engine, it’s the worst gas mileage than Nissan 5.6, oil leaks from the engine and burning oil a lot and ticking sound. The water pump failure if you want to replace the water pump you need to replace a new timing chain, and air injection pump failure. Over thousands and thousands of dollars to fix all that, the 2.5 V6 which is Lexus IS made the worst reliability on every plant and it’s totally a Money pit engine, the interior quality is trash and Cheaper made, dashboard melting, infotainment screen doesn’t working, electrical failure, and discoloration rear view mirrors, spark plugs crapped out, oil consumption a lot, oil sludge problems, transmission failures, I will sell Toyota and Lexus and never buying it and never looking back again, the quality is cheapest made and borking quality of the interior, and ugly as hell design and interior made in junkyard (means Toyota manufactures and dealers picture) and less reliability as they age I will stay away from any and all and every Toyota and Lexus. Peace ✌️

I’ve had two Toyota vehicles with the first one having over 350000 miles put on it until it was totaled in an accident. I never had any of the issues you’re complaining about. Actually I love my 2021 Camry fit and finish. The body is very stylish and very roomy inside. The seats could be more comfortable being that I suffer with Back issues but other than that my Toyota’s have been nothing but reliable great sedans.

I remember back in the 1980's a Mercedes-Benz was a car "for life." Those things were built to last, and they did last for decades. Sadly, MB has cheaped out and I think they now target the luxury leasing market. Those plastic cars are problematic while under warranty, and complete nightmares after.

Great video as always. Maintenance on Luxury brands is not cheap and that is what makes people regret them. People want to drive, forget about repairs and low maintenance cost. When they have to do oil changes or tires they are sticker shocked. Luxury comes at a price people. Like Mark says; "Life's to short to drive boring car".

But how can it be unknown for anyone that the maintenance costs are high? Almost for any car nowadays, except for Tesla.
Are people surprised when the service bills are 3-4,000 USD EACH year.
They tend to exchange parts that aren't near to be worn out. You must keep an eye on the dealerships. They seem to have no limit on how they can charge you. This is not only in Canada and the USA, unfortunately.

@@leiflillandt1488 No no, I'm talking about Mercedes specifically. $3,000-$4,000 each year? No. My buddy had like 3 back to back issues and ended up dropping $10k on his Mercedes AMG in like 3 months. And, for one issue, he went to the dealer, and they quoted him $4000 for something. He took it to a private mechanic, who fixed it...for like $3800 or so. Yeah, no.
Mercedes are engineered so tightly that when something goes wrong they damn near have to take apart the car to fix it. One tire goes out? Replace it? Nope: Have to replace ALL 4 TIRES at like $500 each to keep the suspension aligned. Maybe the tires could be gotten cheaper, but you see my point.

I have a 2020 Porsche Macan S. I have spent around 1800 a year in maintenance. I did my due dilligencr before I bought it and I understood exactly what I was getting into. I love this ride its a excellent whip! I added a cobb accessport (not included in the 1800). It is a strong launch and 30 to 60 is strong. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but I would never buy a car without lots of research. If your on a budget do not buy a performance luxury vehicle. The Porsche CPO warranty is one of the very best in the automotive industry. I have NO REGRETS. I plan to sell this in about a year and purchase another Porsche, looking at a 2004 Cayenne S or a Macan GTS. Thank You Mark for all the excellent and pertinent information you provide in your videos. I would encourage a potential luxury performance buyer to subscribe to Mark's service. He knows his stuff!!

Both MINI and BMW, have high owner satisfaction. At least according to Consumer Reports. For the past decade their reliability has improved with each passing year. BMW has been named the best brand for the past two years by Consumer Reports. MINI is also the 3rd most reliable car brand. Only Lexus and Toyota are higher. Yes they are expensive to get serviced out of warranty, but BMW have improved the reliability of their cars by leaps and bounds.

Tesla would definitely be one of them. So many “early adopters” have dipped their toes in the Tesla waters, then realized that it didn’t feel too good, and flipped within a year. It all seems like a great idea until you get in a fender bender. There are only certain body shops that are qualified to work on those pieces of junk, 3-4 months of having to use a rental car while the repair gets sorted out by the insurance companies.

I disagree, most people that have teslas usually keep them 3-5 years, model 3/y are best in the class, especially new refreshed model 3. They have their issues but they are minor, most of them fixed with software update. My model 3 almost has 100k miles just needed tires and front control arms. The performance it offers, it’s amazing how cheap they are to maintain. There are many model 3s over 200k miles even 400k miles on the original batteries.

Tesla is the cheapest premium brand to maintain according consumer reports and many other sources, I also have Audi q7 and BMW x5 which cost way more to maintain, I don’t know why I bother with them anymore, it’s not worth it imo, sure interior may not be as nice but for me it’s the driving experience. I went from bmw f30 335i modded with 500hp, my model 3 performance is faster, handles better, almost costs me nothing to maintain, I do miss the sound of the inline six that’s about it.

The 20k service was $650 (oil and brake fluid change). 30k service was plugs, oil change and filters, $1700. 40k service, oil change, PDK fluid exchange was $2900. Its a pricy game to be in. Issue i had was its basicially a larger GTI with the 2.0turbo and the service costs trippled with the badge. Now combine those service costs with the "Hey, you need brakes, or tires or etc......". I think I ordered 15 cushions, from Amazon and some did help, but not enough. Within 6 weeks, I sold the car. I think I put 600 miles on it. I was lucky the I bought it at good price and my LOSS was kept to about $1500. The whole situation sucked, but it is what it is. Prior to a newly purchased automobile. My last car was purchased in 2004. Both times I spent about two months researching what fit our needs what we could afford and what was the best thing I could get for that money. The Japanese automatic transmission company, AKA jaco was cause to not even consider a infinity or Nissan product. You need not be a gear head to understand that. Hey is a EV enthusiast considered a wire head?

When talking about maintenance costs, I bought a 2011 BMW X3 30d with 2546,000 km 15 months ago.
I have solved the maintenance cost problem in that way that I saved my much cheaper in maintenance 2008 BMW X3 20d, and if that one also will be too expensive in maintenance, I have to wash my 1997 528i with leather interior.
If a Land Rover isn't reliable enough, why don't people buy two, so they can use one while the other is repaired?!
When talking about Mini, I saw that the model WITHOUT THE ICE ENGINE is quite reliable and ranked very high... 🤣🤣🤣
