  • Gum recession, or root exposure, is one of the most common dental problems yet most people don't even know they have it until someone else points it out or it becomes symptomatic. Recession also usually happens slowly over time. It can be caused from a variety of situations including gingivitis, periodontitis, improper alignment of the teeth and tooth grinding just to name a few.
In this segment of BURST tv, periodontist Dr. David Wong answers one of the most common questions he gets about treating recession.
Regardless of the initial cause, early detection is the key to treating gum recession successfully.

The cadaver and roof mouth tissue do not carry blood supply. Doesn’t a graft need blood supply to be viable. So what percentage of these grafts is successful ?

I have 3 dentists in my blood family and I have receding gums and even my own family dentists repeat that is my tooth brushing the cause of it and believe on it without a doubt like believing in Gods that don't exist but I strongly believe and with uncertainty that gum recession and or disease is caused by dentists "abrasive cleaning" that irreparably damages the microscopic relation between gums and teeth .... the fine lines between 2 different tissues and or materials, like gums and teeth, that coexist should not be disturbed the way dentist do in their routine abrasive cleaning of tartar .... gum tissue is very sensitive, much more so than any other kind of skin .... dentists should know and remember Michael Jackon who after a few plastic surgeries on his nose his nose stop reattaching itself and Michael Jackson had to use a nose prosthesis to cover his facial hole ... every dentists "abrasive cleaning" that bleed the gums is like a new surgery and one day this gum microsurgery stops gums from healing.... I had these irresponsible abrasive cleanings on my teeth by my nonfamily dentist twice each year .... I live in the USA and have not visited my family dentists in 22 plus years if you are wondering ..... presently I don't allow any dentist to clean my teeth anymore but my gums keep on receding even though I brush very carefully, less and without toothpaste .... deep canals continue to grow between my teeth and gums .... the canals and gum recession is mostly on the exterior and almost none on the interior..... can the dentist association even think dentist are a major cause of this gum recession? Will be difficult to accept even if there is a scientific study proving my non dentist idiotic opinion .... can dentists be 100% certain that tooth brushing etc is the cause of it? Thanks X3 for sharing your video.

aggressive tooth brushing is a cause and is what caused mine. Maybe the reason you keep having receeding gums is because of excessive tartar build up and brushing wrong, not using toothpaste and flossing. To me it looks like you're using the excuse of dentist bad they made my gums recede, use the process of elimination, stopped going to dentist, after stopping your gums still recede? why? it is your fault well not always but it is most likely yours. A dentist clean is not damaging your gums its akin to flossing. Deep cleans are the ones where they get real deep instead of just cleaning tartar off of the gumline and inbetween teeth. Toothpaste is abrasive yes but it is not very abrasive, your not putting charcoal on your teeth. You dont even feel dentists cleans or even bleed during them unless you have gingivitis or receded gums that expose the root.

@@stagnantwater3775 we are a world of intelligent individuals MADE MEGA IDIOTS by other idiots .... I am one of them for sure .... I have 3 certified practicing dentists in my family, I love each and they love me but they are also ignorant on the origins of receding gums ... they too blame me and all who have receding gums they repeat it is hard brushing, tooth paste, even genes, etc ... I happened to be very soft and careful with my minimum dental brushing more so because my condition .... and there a lot of idiots that say it is this or that like myself who says it is the very invasive dentist cleaning mostly .... Michael Jackson lost his nose due to too many surgeries because his tissue gave up healing after many surgeries .... I believe the highly abrasive very invasive dentist methods of cleaning the line between crowns and gums has resulted in the same effect as Michael Jackon but as I say I am a MEGA IDIOT because I have no proof I only postulate .... are you too an idiot for suggesting that it is my tooth brushing and not even considering that it is dentists deep cleaning that produce gum decease? ... the dentists that I have consulted with cannot certify what causes gum decease but as idiots they also postulate many things without proof... I will keep reading studies and research about it as being the best I can do to understand the tissues and practices involved with this highly profitable for dentist bad condition.

Receding gums can often mean that the bone underneath is affected. And enough bone loss can mean tooth loss as well. The treatment of receding gums is to help slow down that process and prevent tooth loss. If you are concerned about your own teeth, try to see a dentist for an evaluation
