  • Thanks for tuning in everyone. In this video I go through my new Samick Discovery ILF recurve bow, talk about setup, and do some shooting. So far I highly recommend this bow if you are in the $500-900 range for an ILF hunting recurve.
    Edit: The arrows I am shooting in this video are in fact 536 grains total weight, not 450 as I said in the video. I had entirely forgotten that I added 100 grain inserts to bump up from what they weighed before.

    Trad bows have always been about reliability, and versatility for me. ILF bows are a good compromise between compound bows and traditional one piece recurves and Longbows

    Its funny, literally right before you said it's super quiet my thought was "I don't know much about bows but I feel like this is pretty quiet"

    I have the same bow with long limbs. I use an Accutune adjustable strike plate but had to add a second nylon washer to get center shot. I’ve had mine a couple of years and am extremely happy with it.
    Be careful with the aluminum limb bolts, they strip easily. Alternative Archery sell Stainless Steel limb bolts and they work great. They quiet the bow down a bit also.

      Shane, thanks! I am about to add an edit to the video because after cutting the shafts down to stiffen up these arrows, I weighed them and realized they were in fact at the 536 grain mark. I had forgotten that I added 100 brass inserts to get to that weight

  • @Leehealy-wheninthewoods

    I JUST bought this same bow. I’m shooting off an elevated rest. My bareshaft looks good but it’s a 31” arrow at 600gr…260spine arrow with 250g up front. Seems VERY stiff to me. But the shaft is consistently good.
    What spine are your arrows? You said you had to stiffen them a lot.

      Dustin, while you can dial the limb bolts out a few lbs. I understand your frustration. My 50 lb. Limbs seem a bit heavier as well, but I haven't put it on a scale. I adjusted mine down a bit. I'm ok with it for me, since I have a short draw length.

    • @thestoicarcher2819
      @thestoicarcher2819  Před rokem +1

      Absolutely. I hunted all last season with it, and loved it. One of the nice parts about an aluminum ilf bow with carbon foam limbs is that they are weatherproof. The only negative I could mention is that the aluminum riser gets very cold on winter hunts.

      @@thestoicarcher2819 hey I also got the Samick Discovery and took your advice for the Hoyt Strik Plate and it actually isn’t exactly fitting. The screw won’t tighten enough. So I got the micro adjust springy rest from 3 Rivers. Do you use a plunger with the springy? I’m going for the “less is more” approach is why I ask.

      Leaving a bow with carbon limbs strung for extended periods of time is not detrimental. However it is still best practice to unstring when not in use for long periods.
