  • Tuning arrows for the Samick Discovery with 30# 62" R3 foam core limbs. 500 spine 175gr seems pretty good. 400 spine with 200gr points flew pretty good also, but seemed a bit slow.
    The day is smoky from summer wildfires.

      This is my only recurve, so I don't feel qualified to give a experienced recomendation, but they seem to get good reviews all around, that is why I chose one. I haven't been disappointed.

    Great video Shane, I shoot a discovery with 40# R3 limbs, my draw is 30” and I’m getting around 46# off the fingers. My results were similar with a 400 sp and a 200g point. You must be a 31” draw, my 30” arrows just come to the front edge of the bow.

      Steve, I'm drawing close to 32" Must be 38-40 lbs at my full draw. These 500 shafts were a little short at only 30". Since making the vid, I've switched to a 32" 400 spine with 200gr point. They are flying very well. Shane

      @@shanepitzer4126 Wow, 200gr point with 38-40 lbs. Most of my 3D-archery friends in Germany would call me totally crazy with such a front load (but it works and I like it). Do you know what your gap at this distance is (distance was about 18-20 yards)?

    • @shanepitzer4126
      @shanepitzer4126  Před 3 lety

      @@wendmann6061 I tend toward instinctive aiming out to 30 yards or so, so it's not really possible for me to tell my gap. Since shooting this video, I have migrated to a 32" 400 spine, with 100gr insert and 125gr point. Total arrow weight is 518 gr. The 500spine 30" shafts used in the vid were just too short for my draw length (32"), so i had to move to 400 spine for the longer shaft, then more weight to compensate for the added stiffness. Haven't chrono'd the new arrow yet, but probably around 165-170 fps or so with my long draw length?

    Those arrows are still going pretty fast out of those 30 lb limbs... It is all in the recurve design and Samick bows are the pinnacle of recurve engineering. American design and centuries old Korean recurve tech built into it. There are some bows like the SAS Survival Bow and the Atmos, both 55 lbs, and they shoot pitifully slow. You are definitely pushing around 185 FPS judging by the flight pattern of these arrows. 60lb Samick limbs can propel arrows way above 200 FPS.

    • @shanepitzer4126
      @shanepitzer4126  Před 3 lety +1

      One of these days i need to set up the chrono and see what the Samick discovery is doing with the 30# and 45# limbs. They sure don't seem slow.

    • @BlueSkyCountry
      @BlueSkyCountry Před 3 lety +1

      @@shanepitzer4126 From the video, I am estimating at least 180 FPS with these limbs. 18 yards, and the release and impact sound of the arrows are almost simultaneous. The SAS Atmos bow, a horrifyingly overpriced "modern longbow" which is worth definitely way less than the $600 price tag it's manufacturer placed on it, could not even stick it's arrows into a regular archery beanbag target at 20 yards. PreparedMind101 did a review on it and even on the 20 yard shots, there was a noticeable lag between release and impact. On the other hand, the same Korean factory that produces the Samick and Hoyt bows have a line of Korean traditional short bows, made from modern fiberglass laminated bamboo and yew cores, that punched past 290 FPS with 50# limbs... Now that is approaching compound bow territory and it shows just how much power potential the recurve design has.

      @shanepitzer4126  Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure what the max suggested would be. I'm drawing right at 32", and it feels OK to me. I'm using the Long limbs, for a 62" AMO length. If you would be using Long limbs at 30.5" DL, I think you would be fine.
