    I plan to make another video after I compare this Microsoft Keyboard and Number Pad software with Logitech Logi Software, and even Logitech Flow. Like this comment so I know you want to see more of this Microsoft Designer Compact Keyboard.

    It may not matter to some but I like that the K380 has 3 media buttons - previous >. Because I use it all the time while I listen to music on spotify. I actually end up reassigning different keys to that function if there are not dedicated buttons because they're essential to me.

    I'm so glad to find this video haha I love my K380 and have been looking to upgrade it. All these low profile keyboards can't beat the height of the K380, but now this MS Designer compact is talking to me😂 Not really bothered by the round keys on the K380 but the squares are definitely gonna be preferable to me. Now I just gotta see how it feels to type on the MS keyboard. Hopefully someday someone figures out how to make a mechanical kb with this low of a height. That would be my ideal kb.

  • @oes2546
    @oes2546 Před 2 lety +3

    0:05 Indeed. Or even have the numberpad on the left. Which is great for entering numbers while using mouse-heavy programs like CAD-software. (I can basicly do almost everything using only the number keys and my mouse in ABAQUS, and looking over to the number row on my TKL keyboard takes a large amount of time when adding it all up, while having a full-size is not an option because it messes up the ergonomics when using a mouse a lot.) I think I'm getting this combo for less then the price of the MX Mini 👍 Not fancy or premium, but simple and just works. Probably just as fast if not faster to type on as well, as I never really liked the MX Keys very much for the typing experience itself.

    Microsoft Designer compact is such a nice one! If it was designed in a Surface way it would have been so much better! Most impressive is the default home, end and pg up & down keys location. Wish it kept the replacable batteries feature and was maybe more durable

    One of the things that put me off the Microsoft keyboard is its insistence on going into sleep mode and taking quite a bit of time, relatively speaking, to come out of sleep mode. Also, the need for a pin to get into the battery compartment and the need for changing batteries is a mild minus for me personally. But the waking from sleep problem is a much bigger annoyance, of course, because it affects me all day long, every day. The batteries and the pin once a year I could most likely live with. Does anyone know whether there is a solution for the sleep issue yet?

    This keyboard might, just might, make me switch to a non-Logitech keyboard for the first time since... I think 1990. And for I think 15 years or so I use the K360, my BY FAR favourite keyboard ever. But..... I just might switch to the MS Designer

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  Před 2 lety

      Yes Kees, I know what you mean. I am a loyal fan of logitech keyboards for more than 2 decades and I am still using my Logitech K780 in my study room PC. This Microsoft designer keyboard is better than my Logitech K380, but I still like my K780 more than this Microsoft keyboard. Maybe my muscle memory has not got used to it yet.
      Didn't know the existence of K360, and now I know. K360 key travel seems to be a lot higher, and I can imagine it should be pretty nice to type on.

  • @BendyLemmy
    @BendyLemmy Před 2 lety +1

    Limited as a multimedia keyboard - no media-prev or media-next... and it would be better, instead of a LOCK key (Ctrl-Alt-L locks the desktop) to have a 'FN SWAP' key, to allow function keys to do EITHER F1-F12 or the function by just pressing the key.
    The layout of the mk270r is good - it could use additional media-next and media-prev keys instead of home/email launcher keys (easily remapped) separated from the F keys.
    A similar layout, with the insert->PgDn keys in a vertical line, full size arrows would be perfect, with a numpad and a compact version without numpad.
    So really, all keyboards still suck - but a couple suck less. The best I found so far is Royal Kludge RK84 - but that would be a bit noisier.

    • @SkyPerspective

      I find that worth the money is all depending on how much you use the features that comes with the keyboard. MX Keys is worth it if you need to backlit keys and use software like Logitech flow. Down side is the battery on MX battery life is short and needs charging frequently if you use with backlit keys.

    I read that the Microsoft Designer Keyboard cant enter Bios, so can the Compact enter Bios?

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  Před 2 lety +2

      No, because this is a all Bluetooth keyboard, i.e. all device 1,2 and 3 are all connected via Bluetooth, it cannot enter Bios until the operating system loads up the Bluetooth connection on the computer. This is why some keyboards like Logitech Keyboard K780 comes with a usb dongle that helps provide basic keyboard function when you plug in the USB dongle and select device 1 to enter bios. Having said that, not all Logitech keyboards that comes with a USB dongle can enter bios. This is why I always keep a wired keyboard in my cupboard, just in case all wireless option fails.

      Try these:
      1) Get the device you are connecting into Bluetooth pairing mode searching for keyboard to connect
      2) Press and hold on to the device switch button until the device light starts fast blinking. Doesn't matter if it's 1, 2 or 3
      3) Check the device Bluetooth pairing search to see if the keyboard has been found. Select it after it pops up.
      4) Follow the steps connect the device.
      Which steps above are you not able to connect?
