Great video, as always! I would select Adam T8V active monitors ($450), Ikea KNARREVIK end table pair as stands ($30), and a Bluesound Node ($500- on sale, or grab a Node 2i).
I know it doesn't have a record player but I challenge anyone to put together a better sounding setup for under $1000 (NEW!!!). The T8V measures incredibly well and has enough low-end for most folks to skip a sub. And the bluesound is a great streamer.

@@zardoz2627 Tis the Season after all 😂
@@KristiWright My bday is on the 13th, so definitely
Jamo S803 HCS - $239
Denon AVR650S - $339
Fluance RT-82 - $299
Total - $887 before tax/shipping
go a little over and...
- include Kanto SP26 - $149
- Crutchfield Speaker Cables + HDMI - $55
- add the 808 or 810 Subs - $149/$199
- Sell the 81 CEN and S801 surrounds and upgrade to an 83 CEN for a better center and a great 2.1
This is a really well thought out approach to putting together a system without burning out one's bank account. Even if you aren't restricted by budget this is well worth watching. Andrew and Christi seem dedicated to making hi-fi fun, and that's exactly what it should be.
Thank you so much! It's supposed to be fun!
Thanks!! This was a lot of fun to do. Such a nice break from reviews.
@@KristiWright I meant what I said about you guys making hifi fun. Your approach is so refreshing. There is a whole slough of reviewers who could learn a lot from how you and Andrew do things. Keep this great vibe going.
As a Fluance RT82 turntable buyer...a BIG yes to the RT85 as it will save you money in the long run. The RT82 is so good that you will eventually want to invest additional money to make it even better as if you bought the RT85 (acrylic platter, better cartridge) in the first place.
Super helpful to know!
agree on the RT-82, my favorite part of my system, as Andrew would say it punches well above it's weight class
Sorry for my small mathematical error there at the end. Speakers being sold as "each" vs "pairs should really be more clearly marked! Talk about a post filming buzz kill! Anyway, I still think I won :).
Lol..... it’s not about winning, it’s about playing the game! 😬 I did enjoy the game 😉🙏
Great video I would have loved your help back in the day I use kimber cables for my speakers what cables do you use thank you
@@joaquinrubio3230 Kimber makes pretty cables! Andrew has an old pair of Transparent cables that he uses most of the time but he also uses basic stuff from Amazon. I linked to them in the description box if you're curious.
by the way between you and me I liked your systems better Kristi don't tell Andrew lol .
Lol👍 do you let Andrew win occasionally 😂👍
Give credit where credit is due.....BUT...Andrew's turntable options are superior!! Great job, guys!
Thank you Stephen. I like the Sony for its simplicity, but if you want to get the most out of your records, my picks are better 😉
@@robinsonbrand Is it possible to run the fluance rt85, arylic s50pro, and tannoy gold 7/8 speakers? I respect your a busy person but I just have to ask. My understanding of this is limited.
Kristi’s laughter at the end was infectious 😂
Andrew, you got the Hifi with a touch and glance to audiophiles and Christy went for hifi with a touch of party. Kudos to all of ya.
I would really like to see similar videos for other price brackets - 2k, 3k, 5k : )
I second that , 2K, 3K and 5k and why not, 7k or 10k
@@kirkaparty4143 Happy to do other similar videos if people watch this one!
Would definitely watch that
Getting a decent subwoofer in would be tempting at 2k
Sounds like a great series to me! I'd eagerly watch them all. 😀
Kristi did a great job with her picks! We need to see her in front of the camera!
She’s already explained her reasons for that, it if you really want to put a face to the voice, check out their older vinyl buying videos.
Love the energy of you two. Her first combo was my favorite! Kristi is our healing audiophile from now on!
If you want something that is vinyl driven it goes to Andrew. If you are outside vinyl and are more based on bluetooh/music service than Kristi.
I like it I like it! Nowadays you can really have a great system for a thousand bucks.
- Triangle Borea Bro 3 : 450 USD
- IFi zen blue streamer dac : 189 USD
- Yamaha A-S301 : 350 USD
Total : 989 USD, only one word that comes to my mind BOMBASTIC!!!
This is absolutely the best under-$1000-system video PERIOD! I am just starting off as a YT audio/hifi reviewer. Your videos have inspired me to bring useful content to people who have realistic HiFi budgets. I love your channel!
I bought the Cambridge Audio AX100 in part because of your review. Incredible value at $600. Thanks! Love your videos!
This is OUTSTANDING! I’ve been taking all of these components and mixing them up to fit what we need in our library. We’ve discovered the Audio Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB which we can use to enjoy vinyl whilst the children sleep (using Bluetooth connected to headphones or AirPods). We’re going Jamo towers and sub with the Andover Songbird and a Douk ST-01 amp. Just over $1k, but your guidelines helped us keep it reigned in. 😂 Y’all are awesome!!!!!
She definitely out-pizza’d the Hut! System 6 ftw! Great video, guys!
His reaction was PRICELESS!
What inclined me to go ahead and start buying my stereo system is when I heard you say (the only person that has to like your system is you) thanks for that 👍🏻
Kristi's Tannoy Gold 5 system setup was the winner for me. I think she got you Andrew, but all would sound good and are solid recommendations. Thank you.
I am a Cambridge Audio fan. Great British laid back sound that handles all music styles very well and they are all well priced.
Really late to this video as I just discovered the greatness of this channel a couple of weeks ago. Lots a great content on this channel to catch up on... but as to your question, you put together a system with floor standers and a sub, which in my opinion is an absolute win in the Andrew column.
You two put together some great systems. I might do it a bit different.
1. Cambridge AXR 85 $400
2. Elac Debut 2.0 B62 $288
3. A "Fanless" Mini Windows PC about $160
4. Schiit Modi $99.00
All in at $947
The PC lets you stream pretty anything i.e., audio, video, MP3, whatever. You just need to connect the PC to your existing video display. Honestly this similar to my personal set up. I usr the AXR100 (which is amazing) a Schiit Bi-Frost Multibit, ELAC Debit 2.0 F62s and other stuff. I suggested a similar system as AXR85 for friends and they love it.
I just love the way Andrew looks at Christi. So proud on having Christi at his side.
Please do more of these in different budgets. Loved the format and getting both of your setup recommendations
I've owned a pair of 3020's as my first set of speakers. Great little things! Absolutely a decent starting point.
Recently moved them to the rear as I managed to do my first big audio upgrade w a pair of Focal Aria 926's. Now I'm sinking deeper into this whole audiophile thing, F.
Her last system is great! I have a pair of monitor bronze from a previous generation, they rock!
Love this…wish I’d have seen it about a year ago. Here is the system I put together that was way more than $1000:
Schiit Sol turntable w/ mani phono preamp…$928
Klipsch RP-500M…$479
Reisong A10 EL34 tube amp…..$451 (with shipping from China)
Total: $1,858
While I love this system and listen to it several times per week, it is almost double what you have put together. I really wanted to go old school full analog with a tube amp for this system so I guess the only thing I’d change is the turntable. If I had it to do over I think I’d go with the U-Turn Orbit Plus with the Schiit Mani Phono Pre Amp. With that the systems still would have been over $1000 coming in at $1358. Could have used that extra $500 for more LPs. 😉 Oh well…I still love my system and that’s what counts. Thoughts?
Both of you provided nice lists. Keep up the hard work, it's well appreciated in this community.
Fun video! Good to see you both enjoying the process. It just proves that everyone has a different ear and there are many good choices to combine into a great system for yourself. Both of you did well 🙂
Just did my first sub $1000 system. I got open box Klipsch The Fives off eBay for $550 + Jamo S810.
Just want to thank you for your videos. I’m putting together my first hifi system, and your videos have been invaluable.
boy i enjoy your show and i still have my jamo dmr60 a103 sattll from 2006! in my stash audio lol and they all still work great!! you are really helping people on a budget for great value audio pls keep up the great work and it looks like i see vandersteens in your back ground , sold alot of those back in the day , but really they sold themselves lol!!
Honestly Kristi’s pick are the smart choices. Great systems that don’t break the bank. Too many folk think the more you spend the better the system and that not always true
Fantastic review and advice, thanks for sharing 👍
I'm owner of Jamo S 809 and until this day I love it. Even my friends with high expensive systems they were shocked how good they can be when they are properly adjusted. Not perfect but good enough. The only complain I get from retailers when I go to purchase the cables and they ask me for brand of speakers, reactions are Jamo, wtf , are you serious and that it why I love them more. Recently I add subwoofer and it is especially sweet and warm sound what I hope so will last long long time. Good job 👏
Great video! I just loved the moment when Andrew realized that Kristi might have bested him…and the laugh that went along with it 😁
Good job you two! This is solid proof that you can put together a budget audiophile system for under a grand. I think this is what most people need to get started in this hobby, then have money to spend on buying records or paying for streaming.
The laugh…..she bested you today and she knew it! 😆 You guys are awesome.
I went to Cambridge Audio’s webpage, and found some of the “factory refurbished” components at reasonable prices! Purchased, a Topaz SR20 receiver, and a Topaz CD10 player, both for $350. I bought a pair of Klipsch RF82ll on sale for $460! Sounds amazing since it’s only a bedroom system. So under 1000 clams very doable!
Love this video! Great systems, amazing chemistry between the two of you, which always makes for a fun watch!
I really appreciate these budget builds.
Thank you so much, Lou T! We appreciate you watching.
She definitely did better! This is one of my favorite videos. Your smile when she's sharing her setups says everything!
I like the way Andrew looks at Kristi, it's the look of love, obviously.
I went the used route...got Marantz PM6003 and CD6003 for 500 used and AT-LP120 for 250 and Boston A26 for 200 new. Sounds amazing.
Hi Andrew and Kristi, your recent videos have really great reviews and comparative analysis, hitting more budget friendly options.. I love how you mention ‘law of diminishing returns’.. this specific video was really awesome as it gave a great perspective for less than $1000.. I would love to listen to your perspectives for $2k or $3k budget systems for both music and movies with great performance on both sides ..
I know this video is focused on new equipment. But digging into used equipment opens up a huge amount of opportunity as well. For example: Arcam AVR300 ($400) + Klipsch RF7i ($400) + an older cd player or turntable ($200) gives you an amazing system for a very reasonable amount.
Did Kristy’s systems best yours? I’m gonna say her configurations used products that seem more exciting and not as main stream as yours Andrew. LoL. And her laughter at the end…well …that’s a Michael Jordan buzzer beater! Kristy for the Win!!
It was fun! Andrew had no idea what I was going to bring for my selections! :)
I like the battle format and this also gave people some great ideas!
CDs got popular and records not so easy to find, so my old records and equipment left me about 30 years ago... But, man I really miss vinyl!!!
Please do this video again in 2023....
Good job K & A. For mine, I will choose the Cambridge AXA35, Fluance XL8S, Arylic S50 & U turn Orbit. $1077, but you have a complete package with streaming and analog enjoyment. The AXA35 is really, really good.
Nice setup! The 35 is good but I thought the AXR100 was so much better so I'm still siding with it. The Fluance bookies are great especially for the price!!
I love when your intro music kicks in.
I think the Cambridge foundation has the most potential, all of them would make a very nice starting point. Love the Fluance rt85.
Here is my budget system: Klipsch powered reference 5.25” and a klipsch 10” sub. Very versatile for a second space. Plug is an optical cable and it’s a decent 2.1 home theater. Yet small enough to be computer speakers too.
Kristi got game, I personally would go for the Gold Speakers, the A50 and Sony turntable just for the awesome Frankenstein mash up of equipment and style.
I love Kristi's knowing gigle at the end hahaha love this channel
I got you beat, I bought two Polk audio Rti3 for seven dollars each at goodwill they are in decent condition, and a mini Denon receiver at a swap meet for 5 dollars, it must weigh 20 pounds, I could see a chip on the corner as if it had been dropped and I asked the guy if it worked he just smiled, I took it home opened it and found a circuit board the was popped out I pushed it in and wow have a nice system for a total of 19 bucks. sits on my large tool box at work with a custom PC I built (for work, best sound in the shop) with a Azus sound card, I just love it.
1. I have the AXR100 + Klipsch RP600M combo, love it!
2. Kristi's combos are better~ 😆😆
Great video, love it, thank you!
Kristi's got my favorite 3 systems to me, on paper at least.
i just purchased the jamo 5.0 system with the center channel, 801 and 803's, s 810 sub I purchased seperately. I also bought the denon 760 from costco. With all the speakers, speaker wire and stands I was right around 1,000. I haven't got it all delivered yet so I don't know how it sounds.....hopefully really good. Its replacing a 9 yr old vizio 5.1 surround.
Klipsch The Fives. Sounds great, with HDMI ARC (non of you mentioned has one, and this is super convenient) all in one. Extraordinarily connectivity.
Team Christi - the Tannoys & the Arylic hits the spot for me!!
Really liked hearing both your picks
Thank you! It was fun!
I like you guys' enthusiasm for the everyman systems---and yes--
Kristi out shopped ya!
HAHA. TBH, he should have seen this win coming.
I have the Jamo S809s plus the 808. Opted for the Denon DRA-800H because it has built-in WiFi. A very fun and functional setup.
Great episode. I get the fact that in HiFi the sky is the limit price wise, but enjoying it shouldn't cost a fortune. So this episode nailed it. Thx for putting it together and I'd like to see more like these, especially compare both perspectives. Nice job!
Couldn't agree more!
Well, this was so wholesome to watch, Kristi made such solid buils👌
I run the Cambridge Reciever with my LS 50 and I love it!
well, you lack of bass my friend...
If I purchased pieces, Andrew would win. He has more of my favorites in his systems.
Recommendations are great, took note of plenty of references, thanks!
Great suggestions guys! I love these videos, THANKS!
Great job both of you. I'm getting the axr100 and the s809's.
Thanks for this Andrew, I think it does a lot of good for people getting into the hobby or just wanting a nice system. It’s really overwhelming for newcomers. Would you do one on a 2.1/3.1 home theater/hifi setup? Also some basic videos on the differences between integrated amps, AV receivers, stereo receivers, streamers, etc. I myself am finding it hard to know what I need. Love all the videos, keep it up!
Her giggle says it all! She kicked your butt! LOL you guys rock!
This video was so much fun to do!
Always a pleasure watching your reviews thx guys ..
Great Video! Like everyone else said, I'd love to see one with a 2k budget (I'd be curious if the RP-8000fs make it in there)
The Axr100 is really one of the most versatile amps I've ever heard.
Yes she did!! Good job Christie
perfect reasonable recommendations. thank you
I’d love to see you do this again with equipment available now compared to when you made it.
Do another one of these (but without the turntables) 😎
Really fun video! Would be great to do more videos with higher budgets and/or different listening preferences (vinyl vs digital) etc.
Looking forward to this, saw the "wait for tomorrow" yesterday on the gram :D
Thanks for coming back!
The tannoy system Kristi put together is my favorite
Love those speakers! I really wish they made more stuff available here in the US. I would love to review more of their speakers.
Tannoy Gold series is just my favorite range of powered speakers under 1k. I don't know about the states but there's serious stock issue of these speakers here in Japan, you would be lucky if you can get one at the retail price.
Nice job you two! The only problem is I don't know which to choose.
Thank you this is totally AWESOME 👌
Like most wives, Kristi has the art of bargain hunting for decent quality down to an art form. Yeah Andrew, Kristi beat you, but you're actually the winner. After all she said yes to you.
In my opinion what works pretty well for budget speakers (specially towers) and subs is to search for manufacturers from your country or nearby that you may like. These things can be big and heavy, and transportation and taxes can make a significant impact at low budgets. And being local it will be easier to find good offers and a showroom to listen them before you buy.
Kristi definitely wins. Starting with the Sony STR DH190 is the ticket! Add the Klipsch RPM-600 speakers and there's plenty of funds left for entry level turntable and/or streamer.
Kristi took this one.
That Sony receiver plus speakers and bluetooth from your phone could make for a serious budget setup, with plenty of options to add other components later.
We are pretty pleased with our set up under $1,000
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable (~400)
Klipsch The Sixes Powered Speakers (-480)
Using the Pro-Ject Preamp (~80) as it sounds better than the built in preamp.
Then stream through Bluetooth to the speakers.
Amazingly informative video. Thanks!
What a fun video! I like system 6 the best. However, the U Turn turntable looks so nice I would swap that in even if it put me over… Love it when videos are this much fun.
You guy's rock, this was the perfect video for me right now as I just got my first house so now I can play music as loud as I want. Love the dynamic between you two and how much you know about Hifi and the different possibilities. One question I do have is Klipsch 600M or Monitor Audio Bronze 100 or maybe Silver 50? What would you lean towards?
I think you know the answer yourself 😂. Brilliant…love it. Thanks guys…great as always.
Love this video. Thank you! And how about monitor audio bronze 100 + Cambridge AXR85
Thanks Andrew. Great content and leaned a lot from your videos. As a newbie, I just wanna ask if any one of these setups is comparable or come close to the Sony ht a9 which you said a good word about in your other video
Great video, folks! I’m an AXR 100 owner and love it, but the BT in it is bad. I spent 20 dollars on a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord to use the AUX plug on the front and it works great. Before the AXR 100 went to 600 it was my go to recommendation for everyone.
This was good, thanks!
I have the axr100 and RP-600s that I got on sale for a little over 700 dollars for both. I was able to find both items on sale, I don't have the rt 85, but I do have the Rega P1 plus with an upgraded glass platter. Love my system.
Down with some serious food poisoning and high fever, your video appearing really cheered me up!
Best regards to You both, possitive content - possitive vibes! 👏🏻😎
Love the channel. I just purchased a pair of Jamo s 807’s for an apartment. In my old house I had a full surround Klipsch setup, bookshelf fronts a sub and those half round horn surrounds. Tried Onkyo, Yamaha never could get it powered properly. Don’t want the same problem trying a 2 channel setup. Power, I want the loud speakers to have enough juice for music and movies. I’m open to a turntable. Thoughts? Budget; woul like below $500 but if it’s worth the experience ceiling is $1,000. Thanks guys, keep it up
