    I think the branching timelines are likely the actual 'natural' order of things. The Time Keepers might be using the TVA to prune off the branches they need to finish their 'Sacred Timeline', which could/would circumvent freewill (which Loki actually brings up in this episode). My theory is, past the red line, are other timelines that still exist. Because they have to, right? Otherwise a lot of other things technically can't exist? Or I guess they could because a movie universe isn't the same as a multiverse and the multiverse isn't a real thing that exists, but whatever. Either way, that's my theory is the time keepers are controlling this timeline and don't want anything touching that red line because then that timeline might find out about other timelines. And they're not actually interested in saving this timeline, but just controlling it to, perhaps, some particular end.

    • @doctaflo
      @doctaflo Před 3 lety +9

      you’re thinking of the red line as something like a measure of distance - like if you keep moving towards it and cross it you’re at a new location where there may be other timelines - i don’t think that’s quite right. that graph seems to show divergence. a nexus event sets off a cascade of butterfly effects, making events more and more different from what they’re supposed to be until they snowball out of control and split off into a parallel continuum.
      it’s more like a family tree than a map. it’s not so much that there’s nothing “outside” the one set of branching nodes as that the diagram and its red line aren’t meaningful beyond it.

      alternate explanation: we already know the Time-keepers permit some closed-loop branching, like the Avengers borrowing and returning the Infinity Stones, so maybe the 14,000,000 alternate realities that Strange visited and pruned by acting out the one where Thanos is defeated were all “supposed to happen” that way.

If this is true, Kevin Feige and the writing team are so incredibly smart to incorporate a time table that Disney would be able to eventually acquire characters, to their overall plot. I know they’re trying to make a statement about OUR future but it doesn’t make a lot of sense for the MCU’s future.
      Obviously, it’s not impossible for the MCU Earth to be like ours in regards to their fight against climate change but this universe has so many incredible people I find it hard to believe Tony or some other super genius wouldn’t have already figured out contingency plans for this.

    When Cap fought himself, the 2012 cap assumed he was fighting Loki. After recovering from the fight and the scepter having rendered him unconscious, he could have just assumed the "Bucky is alive" phrase to have been another trick by the God of Lies to throw him off and gain the upper hand in the melee. This is similar to Loki doomsaying in the middle of Pompeii. A nexus event does not happen simply by changing an event in the timeline, the change has to be big enough to cause other decisions to vary thus leading to multiple deviations from the norm. If Cap didn't believe "Loki", no damage was done, it's just as the people of Pompeii who could do nothing with the warnings of Loki since their fate was sealed anyway.

    One thing that intrigues me is that the TVA is seemingly this all powerful, very important organization. And yet, they still use type writers, paper files and rotary phones. It’s so interesting that they don’t use very advanced technology for the critical work they do.

    I never even noticed where the time resets were going. This is so much worse than I thought.

    Something funny I find is that when Loki mentions pushing Hulk off the bridge essentially leading to his death supposedly is that he assumes Hulk died in the explosion. But if he did that he would inadvertently cause a cascade of events, cause Bruce is the one who essentially sets the motions of IW. Kinda interesting.
