    Maxime Gransart grew up around motorsport. His father raced all over France in the 1960s in various cars-including a go at the 24 Hours of Le Mans-but his Lotus Seven left the greatest impact. Maxime was set on owning one, but when it came time to purchase his first car he went with something a little more modern in the form of a first-generation Elise. He loved it and bought another one, but he eventually found his way into this 1964 Super Seven. A longtime devotee of Colin Chapman and his emphasis on lightweight, minimalist designs, Maxime fell in love with the tube-frame chassis, its street and on-track characteristics offering an experience that no other marque can. When he isn’t heading for the backroads in the Seven, you might find him sharing another Lotus-an Elite-with his friend in the Le Mans Classic. His actions follow his words: “I started with Lotus. I’ll continue with Lotus.”

    I just bought a 1962 Seven, and it has been my dream car for 40 odd years. I have a 23B Lotus, but I feel like a little kid knowing a Seven is being restored for me. Thanks for this brilliant video! Cheers

    Another great original Lotus 7 video. Thank you for featuring this example. Great story. I'm 72 and still enjoy a brisk drive in my original 65 Seven. Yes, it's loud, uncomfortable, windy and rough riding; but what a thrill at 50 miles and hour! I'm 25 again!

    I love how the car appears to have never met with a trailer. it has the appearance of knowing what is important, maintaining the mechanicals perfectly while ignoring the dents and stone chips that don't really affect how it operates.
    The only thing better than a fascinating car...is a fascinating sportscar that still gets driven as it was designed. Bravo!

      dear friend, I really love your comment. You perfectly understood my philosophy regarding this car: it needs to show that it is still alive and done for racing not staying in a garage. Having scars is part of the life of this car

    The fact that this is the second Super Seven video we've seen from Petrolicious is a testament to their awesomeness. Having another great father/son story makes it that much better. And for those enthusiasts who haven't already seen them, there are a few really good documentaries on both Lotus as a company and Colin Chapman as an individual, both are equally fascinating. Great owner with a great story about his great car---exactly why I look forward to Petrolicious every Tuesday!

    Do the modern caterhams compare to the original Lotus?

    • @tomindenver1331
      @tomindenver1331 Před 5 lety

      They do. Caterhams range in power from a low hp model (the 270, with 135bhp very much like the classic old 7) all the way to their insane high horsepower version (the 620, with 310bhp). They still reference their power-to-weight ratio when naming the cars out of respect for the Lotus tradition of horsepower per tonne. You can even still get a Caterham in kit form and build it yourself or as a rolling chassis.

    • @waterfordrs22
      @waterfordrs22 Před 5 lety

      Caterham seems to have carried on with the tradition in an extraordinary way. They were producing the 7 for Lotus , so it was a natural fit.
      As mentioned - they make some truly bonkers, over the top takes on the format, but you will find some of their offerings, limited editions as well that make a strong effort at capturing the feel of a car from this era..... the form doesn't change radically but they can dial em in right where you want it.

    • @imnotamechanic3491
      @imnotamechanic3491 Před 5 lety +1

      Their lowest powered model now is 80bhp, giving 160bhp/tonne, which is right about where the originals were, the first 7s had about 40bhp, but many had 85 and some upto around 135bhp. As Caterham started out assembling lotus kits, they have much have keeping it original as their ethos. If you look across the range, due to the way the cars are assembled and the options, you can get the car to look very period if you wish, or add on modern features as they continually develop the car around the same ethos. Given the kit nature of the original, there was no 'correct' Lotus 7, people could change the engine or tune it, and likewise other parts of the car, so Caterham developing a range of 7s really continues that tradition, particularly for people who do not have the time and/or skills to build their own car.
