    • Mercedes B Service - R...
    This video features my Mercedes C class w205 fitted with the OM651 engine. Recently the Mercedes B service reminder came up on the car and I went through my normal cost saving process (which I have done for years) of having Mercedes carry out the “basic” service to maintain the service history and then servicing the extra items myself and I realised that this servicing secret might help others out there!
    Although this video shows the Mercedes B service, it works for any Mercedes Servicing and although it features my C class W205 with the OM651 diesel engine, the process works for pretty much any Mercedes Benz car.
    The Mercedes B service cost is usually in the region of £700 and a Mercedes A service cost would normally be around £300. It’s possible to SAVE a significant amount money on your Mercedes Servicing, just by carrying out some of the additional “extra” work yourself.

    You have to remember that a brake fluid tester only tests what is in the bottle under the bonnet, and not what is physically at the calipers, which is where it actually matters. You'd have to bleed some of the fluid off (with a pressure bleeder) and then test it.

    • @ReviveMyRide
      @ReviveMyRide  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I often bleep off some at the calipers and top up the reservoir but never thought to test what I collected from the calipers. I'll give that a try! 👍😀

      I can understand the point, doing your own servicing (or part of the service) isn't for everyone but it depends on your skill level and confidence in your own abilities. My car is out of warranty now (apart from the body corrosion one). I still get my main dealer service stamp by letting them do the main part of the service and then I save money by doing the extras... 👍 Cheers, Phil

    Hi. I' basically the same opinion and would even go beyond and do the oil service by myself. Of course, in that case, no Mercedes stamp in the maintenance booklet.
    Mercedes like any other brands are trying to make their customers dependant and so ensure comfortable revenue with the maintenance.
    I prefer to invest in good quality parts rather in subsidizing the manufacturer's infrastructure

    • @ReviveMyRide
      @ReviveMyRide  Před rokem +2

      Agree, this is a big revenue stream for the manufacturers! If you're going to keep your car long term, then there may not be much value in getting the Mercedes stamps, especially as you can keep all of your receipts and prove that the work as been done. I'm trying to strike a balance I suppose in getting the stamp but keeping the costs as low as I can...

    • @AS-cc6zv
      @AS-cc6zv Před rokem

      ....and wanted to complete my comment in saying that even Mercedes sometimes mounts low-priced parts on their new vehicles (e.g. Chinese low quality tires).

    Hi Phil, thanks for posting this video, it makes great sense if people can do the easier parts of servicing themselves to save money.
    Mercedes quoted £600 for the "B" service, even though the car indicated the "A" service was due. I went to an independent in Sheffield called the German Auto Centre that carried out the "A" service for £200 using genuine Mercedes parts. They also offer a reduced cost option by using alternative non Mercedes parts.
    The filter changes are a good way of saving money by DIY including the cabin and pollen filters for the air con. Main dealers also offer "extras" such as air conditioning cleaner for £35 - 40, when you can do this yourself if you buy the product from a motor factors for about £6 -8.
    I keep my bills for parts for proof of maintenance when I sell.
    Keep up the good work, Thanks again.

      @merlin1346 That's a good way to do it for a car that you know you are going to be keeping long term! 👍 But, if you want to retain the MB service history, you have to let the service center do that part. ☹ You can still save money by doing the extras yourself (as shown in the vid). Cheers, Phil

      @@ReviveMyRide We made a recent enquiry with a reputable garage as to whether they would accept a part exchange and they said they would even though there is no MB service stamps for the past 4.5years but there are receipt's for every item purchased on our cards. I sold my own very old jeep 6 months ago and the guy was not happy that there was no service history (an old car!!!) There is also a MB service garage near me who will quite happily fit none MB parts, but will a new owner know its not oem?

    • @ReviveMyRide
      @ReviveMyRide  Před rokem +1

      @@merlin1346 Hi, yes, you get a range of people out there when it comes to buyers. If you have done the servicing yourself, some are happy as long as you have receipts for service items. If you have an MB service garage near you who will service the car and give you the electronic record (or stamp in the service book), then most buyers won't look any further than that. TBH, if you buy good quality items, they will probably meet Mercedes OEM quality anyway. Mercedes don't make oil filters and air filters, they just get one of the reputable companies to make them for them.

      Hi, well the purpose of the video was to retain full Mercedes Benz service history, (which is good for resell price etc when you eventually decide to sell the car) and to do this, you have to let Mercedes do the oil change. Thanks! Glad you liked the video! 😀 As you probably know, Mercedes moved to an electronic service record a while ago. The car owner can ask for a printout but I'm pretty sure they won't do it for someone who can't demonstrate that they are the owner (i.e. in this case, you). I would ask the seller to obtain the printout, otherwise, unless they have receipts, assume the car doesn't have service history and value it accordingly. Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil

    I’ve called my local MB dealership, I’m due a B service too (dust, air, fuel, brake fluid) on my 17 plate S205 as per your post, and if I book into them for a ‘basic’ service, they inform I will lose the breakdown cover, paint warranty and other bells and whistles… irrespective of consuming genuine MB spares, then as for the e-service history, they inform they will record a ‘basic’ service was carried out against the ‘B’ service interval, I presume this is in line with your understanding?

      Hi Phil, thank you for making this video, good information and to the point.
      The local main mercedes dealer wanted £600 to do the B service although my car service indicator was saying it was an A service.
      I used an independent (German Auto Centre) in Sheffield, that did the A service for £200 and they updated the service records online.
      They use genuine Mercedes parts or you can specify that they use lower cost non Mercedes items at a further reduced cost.
      I agree that items we can service ourselves safely at home is a great way to save money.
      Like the two cabin air filters for example as well.
      Well done mate 👏
